People have complained about feedback; it doesn't have the sound indication that ETQW did. Personally, you can see the enemy's health bar get lower when you shoot them, which is enough for me.

I was getting about 30 fps, turned off AO, and my fps shot up to near 100.

How do you guys turn this off? From inside the game, a console command, a text file outside the game, or through the CCC?

One thing I absolutely hate is that I can't easily tell who is on my team or not (I don't see red glows around anyone).

Operatives who have unlocked the "homing beacon" ability must iron-sight enemies to tag them for everyone else.

Really hating the Objective 2-star solo Challenge...I can never seem to get the hackbox going simply because the enemy bots are crawling all over the damn thing...I need my sling!

You can also play challenges online cooperatively.

Anyone know what the SP and Coop consist of?

Playing alone with bots or with humans with bots on the other team.

From what I've played and read, the bots are somewhere close to terrible, which is not good for a team-based shooter. I wouldn't buy Brink for the single player.

I'm really disappointed with the quality of the console reviews. They played an apparently buggy Xbox version against bots (which are pretty bad, so far) and had no idea how to use the classes effectively, so no crap it got a bad score.

I've played about an hour of the PC version (all the one-star challenges and two of the two-star ones) and I like it so far.

Any review covering the Xbox version pre day-zero patch against bots should be ignored.

no pre-order discount via Steam (Sorry D2D, not my cup of tea)

D2D gives you a key you can put directly into steam without using D2D's downloader. That's what I did.

Which game was it that there was an embargo on reviews for like a week after it came out, to deflect negative press? I want to say the first APB go-around.

Of course there is a hoxfix already. But since it's for Brink, I'll let it slide, parkour style, of course.

Is this a console port for the pc?

Given Splash Damage's history of developing, I think it's a PC game ported to the consoles for a change.

The one thing that looks like a bad design decision is the lack of control over the paths that you can take when doing escort missions

I've seen video of secondary objectives that will open up other paths for escorted items, although I do not think you can tell them to use them.

you had to hold down the middle mouse button to bring up the menu then just move the mouse around to select the suit power

That's what I envision. I am more concerned about the four directional buttons used for special abilities (heal, turret, molotov). I'm sure they will simply just assign them to Q and E and F and the like.

Here are my questions/concerns:

1. How much of a gimmick is SMART, and how much is it useful? I could see it radically impacting the game in a positive manner, with people coming in from previously inaccessible angles, or just being "oh you press a button instead of using a crate to jump up there". Sliding looks neat, though.

2. Unlocks. How much stuff will people have when they start? How quickly will things unlock? WIll weapons unlock for all classes simultaneously? Will all classes get to use all weapons?

3. I'm interested in what the "challenges" are. Timed single-player tutorials or what?

4. Map size. I suspect it's going to be a linear progression like the ETQW maps were (one objective after another).

5. Integrating single and multiplayer seems cool: pulling down people to replace bots in your game if desired (Shogun 2 did this, kinda).

6. The effect of body types. Just speed/climbing ability/damage?

7. The dynamic objective wheel might be cool.

8. PC controls. Specifically, how the objective wheel is going to work on a keyboard.

9. I think letting people use revive syringes whenever instead of paddling someone and having them become immediately shot (ahem, Battlefield) is neat.

10. Bots

I saw an Out of Eight quote on a retail box, Starpoint Gemini I think. Must be nice to have that sort of recognition.

It helps when you are the only place reviewing a particular game
