My video review will be going up tomorrow morning (it's processing on YouTube right now).

The game is out of early access now (it was in beta for at least 4 months).

It's really good.

I like the classes that are just a bit restrictive. I like the per game unlock system where you don't have to play 20 hours to unlock a new gun. I like the pace (slower than CS, faster than ArmA). I like that there are no hip-aiming sights (unless you use a laser sight). I like the use of objectives (your team respawns when an objective is captured).

I got a Steam code and upon activation, Next Car Game was added to my games list. There's a 380MB download from their site (as well as the 117MB free demo) and a 1.2GB download on Steam so I've no idea what's what.

The 380 MB download is the technology demo, seen here. The Steam download is the pre-alpha with the demolition derby and races, seen here.

I've been playing the early access pre-alpha (tried to grab some footage but it kept crashing while recording). Has a demolition derby mode where the visual damage is much like the tech demos but the cars can take numerous hits before becoming destroyed, two cars (American and European), and two others tracks (one dirt and one tarmac). All modes support 24 cars, which is absolutely nuts. Fun so far.

However, they seriously need to hire some more designers so they can actually finish the game. Right now it's just a sandbox with no real structure or purpose.
Hasn't it been this way for like 2 or 3 years?

There is some rabid interest in the game from a small group of people. The pre-orders started before it appeared in Kickstarter, and the game is coming out whether they got some arbitrary amount of money from Kickstarter or not, as it seems to be mostly finished from what's been posted by the developer. I think Kickstarter just provided a more visible way of getting pre-orders when compared to their website.

I pre-ordered the game before it went on Kickstarter, so I've been playing the tech demo. It's fun: very nice detailed deformation, decent arcade handling and physics. Check out my gameplay video. Personally, I'm really looking forward to the beta.

It's...interesting? Basically, it's playing Facebook (managing your friends by making and attending events and liking posts) and career development by improving specific skills and becoming friends with the boss of the next job on the career ladder. It's a bit addictive so far. I'll have a video review up sometime next week with more complete thoughts.

This is from the same people who made Miner Wars, right? It was an interesting concept which ended up as a disappointing arcade shooter, if this is more sandbox-y I might be interested.

It is from the same developer. This style of game fits their destruction/deformation engine a lot better, and right now it is very sandboxy, unlike the distressingly linear nature of Miner Wars. The developer is planning on adding a "survival" mode where you get limited resources and have to defend against asteroids (I think) in single player or another team (I think) in multiplayer. Again, still in development so details are scarce.

jdreyer wrote on Nov 3, 2013, 14:46:
In the demo they showed a month ago, ships would crash into asteroids, and the asteroids wouldn't budge, even if they were smaller than the ship crashing into it. It was like paper airplanes crashing into a brick. Has that aspect improved?

Right now, asteroids do not respond to being run into. However, in Miner Wars, you could mine into asteroids and permanently destroy them, so this might be a feature that is enabled later on.

Someone sell me on Space Engineers

It's a very early build (being alpha and all) with not that much to do. Right now, you can build spaceships block-by-block and pilot them around. There is also fairly impressive damage and deformation when things run into each other. The game does use Steam Workshop, so you can check out how sophisticated some of the builds can get.

Actually, the moon's gravitation pull is slowing the Earth down already. Your scenario of a 25 hour-long day will occur in 146 million years (and, because of the longer day, we will only have 350 days per year). Set your calendars!
