Been playing the review version...good stuff. Different enough from EU3, should appeal to a larger audience because a lot of the smaller stuff has been streamlined or simplified (budget, trade). Focuses on leaders, placing them in positions, and rivals between families.

I was supposed to but never got it, and, from the looks of things, I'm not to upset about it.

New Mexico is colder than you'd think. I lived in Socorro (south of Albuquerque) for 2 1/2 years and it snowed (with accumulation) at least once (and usually 2 or 3 times) each year.

I've been reviewing this. Interface is drastically improved from the original game; makes it playable with 5,000 stars! The graphics are better as well. It's not on the level of Sins or GalCiv, but it's still somewhat fun.

Speaking of Sins...it runs on my crap-tacular laptop with an Intel onboard chip and look spectacular on my desktop. Seems like 100x is working just fine there.

Maybe if Epic didn't make crappy games that removed content that was present in previous games (Unreal Tournament 3), then they wouldn't sell so poorly.

He's full of crap. In both Sega games I have reviewed (Universe at War and The Club), you needed a GOLD account to play the online campaign and ranked matches, respectively. You can play online for free, but you are limited in both cases to skirmish-type matches only. There are other features than simply "cross-platform support" that are disabled for SILVER users.
See, Microsoft? This is why gamers hate you. You lie repeatedly to them.

Short version: Lost Empire is like Gal Civ 2 and Sins with a poor interface that made it impossible to control 5,000 stars. Whether they fixed this in this newer version is unknown to me.

Well, Epic's feelings about the PC clearly shine through. The interface for the PC was put in at the "last minute." I bet it was. There is also absolutely no mention of all the content they removed since UT 2004 (six game modes, namely). As I stated in my review: "In exchange for nice graphics, we get half the number of game modes, a poor console menu system, and the same weapons: awesome!"

It's not just you. GameSpot posted reviews of:
Universe at War December 19th.
Avencast January 22nd.
Sins of a Solar Empire February 13th.
That's right. Three reviews in two months. Awesome.

Yeah, the whole no download in game thing stinks, especially since the files are all under 50 KB.

All the campaign would be is a series of skirmish battles (that's pretty much what it is in most strategy games). I focus on the skirmish modes anyway, so I don't miss it at all. I'd rather have it missing than a crappy one.

I have no problem mixing games and religion. It's just that the basic game mechanics were so screwed up that the game was not fun at all.

Getting a capital ship at the start of the game is, in my opinion, a big design mistake.

This is the way of making you militarily superior to colonizable planets. Otherwise, it'd drag out the building-up stage even more, which is long to begin with.
