Blue, you may want to update the link to that one... The author has edited the initial page rather disturbingly.

The legality of music downloading aside, these lawsuits demonstrate how any entity with enough money can use the courts to coerce regular folks into paying them money simply because the regular folks can't afford a defence.

People should be worried about what will happen in the future as other corporations realize the success of this particular 'business model'.

CS is sort of like chess: a minute to learn, a lifetime to master.

Superbly put. Anyone that says CS doesn't require skill, hasn't _really_ played the game.

That's incredible. First they screw me out of half a game, then they expect me to pay another $5.95 to play online, on servers provided to them for free by volunteers. (Oh, and they reserve the right to pull the plug at any time!)

I kinda fell out of the loop there for a while. No games of interest == no interest in gaming. The D3 news got my attention, though.

(Thanks for noticing)

I weep for humanity. <sigh>

Yeah, the beautiful thing about this is that if we start blowing up eachothers satellites in orbit, the resulting fragments will continue to orbit the Earth, posing a serious threat to future generations of explorers and possibly shutting down our access to space completely for hundreds of years. Yay!

The biggest piece of the puzzle was to find the right PVR software.

Start here: www.snapstream.com

So, what was the last thing you did that made you feel great? Not just in the world of tech.

My most recent 'mad scientist' project was to build an HTPC (home theatre PC) that basically is a DIY Tivo, without the built-in spyware and with the ability to dump recorded shows out to DVD. It really is the cat's ass.

I bought this game for both components; the single player and multiplayer aspects. I got burned. The online aspect was NEVER actually completed. The only part of it that worked at all was the prologue, which really was just a beta-test of the technologies. The few times that I managed to connect, the experience was a complete letdown. Buggy, laggy crap. I waited and waited and waited for things to improve and now this... Ubi can suck my balls.

Evolution is not a "theory", it's fact.

To be nit-picky: Scientific theories can never really be accepted as fact, all one can say is that the evidence seems to support a given argument. In the face of new and contrary evidence, any scientific principle can be proven incorrect.

This (in my opinion) is the reason that science is superior to religion as a means for discovering truth.

Nerds need not look beyond their own ranks for heroes. Nerd heroes are everywhere. Todd McFarlane was a comic-book nerd in high school, spending all he could afford on books by his favorite artists. Todd also loved baseball and was eventually recruited by a semiprofessional team in Kamloops, British Columbia. It was there he met Al Simmons, after whom McFarlane later named his Spawn character.

WTF?!? I live in Kamloops and I haven't heard this before! Also: to my knowledge, there are no semiprofessional baseball teams here. What up?

Hey folks, what's the best 3.x MP digi-cam out there right now? I've been looking at the Canon PowerShot A70 and the Sony DSCP72 Cybershot. Any opinions?

Buy the A-70. The Sonys are decent cameras but they use the proprietary Memory Sticks which make memory upgrades unnecessarily pricey. The A-70s are top-quality cameras, with loads of features and plenty of accessories available. To boot, it takes CompactFlash memory, which is dirt-cheap.

No, it isn't cool, or funny, or entertaining... It's the truth.

I really hope that people are offended by these kinds of images. War isn't cool, or funny, or entertaining. And I think that watching stuff like this brings that message home better than anything.

Hell, you can wipe out poverty in the US for 18 billion.

How?

Mandatory birth control.

Edit: I see a few people have beaten me to to punch here, but it's absolute truth: if you don't have the financial means to support a child, then you shouldn't be having them. Having a social welfare system is a noble and necessary thing, however it has become a means for people to avoid working simply by pumping out children. If you allow yourselve to take a step back, you will notice that just like in any biological sytem, when food (or the means for survival) is plentiful then a population multiplies. Now of course as creatures with a conscience we can't simply abandon people who can't afford to pay their way, but I don't think it's unreasonable to ask those who aren't contributing to society not to increase the burden that they are putting on the rest of us.

I know this is an unpopular view, but it represents the only real solution to the problem (other than that of ensuring compliance to such a program).

This new computer is making me rip my hair out. It's fucking ridiculous. NOTHING has worked. I'm going to try swapping in my Geforce3 probably sometime this weekend to see how things go.

I got hold of a PS2 recently. I used to be a huge PC-games-only-for-me-snob. I haven't powered up my big box since.

I'd like to find a decent tv-out device so I can bring my gaming rig out into the living room.

Executive Steering Wheel Mount: I'd hope that anyone stupid enough to try and drive with that thing on would trigger thier airbag.

In other news: Looks like Beagle 2 has joined the long list of Mars Probe casualties. Damn.
