Just amazing?

Surely that was sarcasm, or am I missing something?

I found a little utility called 'NoFlash' that gives you a tray icon that you can click on to enable/disable flash in IE. Wooo!

A while back, someone turned me onto a toolbar for IE that would allow me to enable/disable flash at will. I have since forgotten what it was called. Anyone care to refresh my memory?

The only thing that can be proved here is that different people like different things. I enjoyed the game, lots of you didn't. Woopity-doo! Lots of people talk about what a classic game System Shock 2 was and yet I happened to think it was a flaming pile of crap.

You folks that think just because you didn't like something that nobody else should like it either, need to grow up and realize that outside your window there is a whole world full of people who disagree on one thing or another.

Oh, and for the record: I'm NOT a 'casual gamer'.

I have to ring in on this one...

I actually enjoyed this game as well (well, except for the driving sequences) and yes, it was groundbreaking in a number of ways: It was actually envisioned from the start as being integral to the plots of Revolutions/Reloaded, the game designers had access to actual materials used to create the film including the most elaborate motion capture system ever used in a videogame.

Sure, the graphics weren't groundbreaking, but they were a lot better than a lot of games of about the same vintage. It was also the first game I've played to feature quality, full-motion video, with decent actors, with a decent script.

The kung-fu stuff was pretty kewl too.

Edit: I can also remember sitting in the theater and when they showed the scene where the nuclear plant comes down thinking to myself: "Hey cool, I did that!"

Blue: Ah, good. I was beginning to think that you hated me or something.

Enahs: Got the contact grill, buddy. I gotta say the first experience was pretty encouraging. Normally I wont eat sausages unless they're barbequed on account of the grease. The grill did a bang-up job!

Did anyone else's scam detector go off while viewing this? I didn't even read the lengthy description; the pictures were enough for me.

1) If I'm going to drop a cool $100 million on something, I'm gonna need more than a couple of blurry pictures to convince me to part with my dough.

2) If you look closely at the little metal sphere, firstly the bolts holding the viewport on are not even spaced evenly apart from each other? Sorry guys, but I like my $100 million dollar metal spheres to be engineered a little better than that. (And is that an elastic band?)

As a side note: Blue, I'm beginning to think that you are not receiving any emails from me, can you confirm/deny?

I didn't think Tulsa was that big, frankly...
There seems to be a larger than expected number of Canadians as well.

For the record: Canada is bigger than Tulsa.

As to the work DooM did: I like it, the only complaint I would have is the 'popular threads' box on the first rework needs to be non-transparent. Everything else is great!

I thought I should chime in with my thoughts on the new look:

I actually don't mind it at all, even without the retro-colours.

One thing I do miss is the 'popular threads' breakdown; sometimes if I see a thread that's getting a lot of traffic, I like to go in to see what all the fuss is about.

The only other suggestion I would have is to reverse the colours that are used for links/launched links. It seems odd to me to have the live links in the 'faded' yellow, and the previously viewed links in the brighter yellow.

Oh, and the main story text is just a smidgeon too wide for my 800x600 screen. (I do most of my browsing from my laptop, on the couch)

Zephalephelah: Coming soon to a clocktower near you!

Heh. You know, I can't help but to relate with some of the stuff the guy is anrgy about, but his anger toward Blue is (in my opinion) totally displaced. We've been through the ad debate already, over and over. We've been given valid reasons as to why things have to be the way they are. And we've been told that a compromise (i.e. a ad-free subcription option) is in the works. So in my mind at least, the debate is over and the feedback system was effective.

Zeph: Take your own advise man, if your pissed because you had to wait in line at the supermarket, complain to the store management; don't come here and vent your anger where it's not warranted.

Zephalephelah: From your writing it seems like you are at least a reasonably intelligent person, that's why I find it hard to believe that the stupid stuff that you have to say isn't just thinly disguised trolling. If that is not the case however, I'd like to point out a couple of obvious facts that you seem to have overlooked.

1) This website is Blue's job. As far as I know this is his only income except maybe for whatever the missus may bring in. Since he has decided to devote all of his time to this site, obviously he hasn't any time available to work at a 'day job'. If on the other hand he decided to take a regular job, then obviously he would not be able to provide us with the quality product we've all come to expect.

2) You talk about how everything that is available here is available elsewhere. So why then do you come here? Because it has/had less ads? Why do you think those other sites have all those ads? If it's so cheap and easy to run a site like this for free, where are all the free sites?

Don't get me wrong; I hate the ads. But if they keep this site from going away then I'll live with them. Like you I'd prefer to buy myself an ad-free version of Blue's News, and Blue has made it publicly known more than once that he would also support such a plan, but lacks the time/expertise necessary to build such an engine at this point. He is looking into it though.

So my advise to you is this: STFU and deal with it, or exercise your right to choose and vote with your feet (i.e. piss off). Just don't pretend to have a clue about things you obviously do not understand.

Edit: You know I can't write a post that long without screwing something up.

Unfortunately, it does not seem like this is something I am going to be able to accomplish with the programmers who have done any of the work on the site, and if that's the case, it probably means re-writing the site from scratch, so there's an issue about who is going to do that.

I'd be prepared to chip in to help pay for a profeshunal code-monkey.

Shane,

Buddy of mine had almost exactly the same symptoms. Tried everything to fix it, nothing worked. 2 weeks later one of his teeth fell out and the nerve was all exposed and infected. Apparently, the nerve was connected in some way to his neck/shoulder. Go figure.

See a dentist.

Now adays FPS games have lost all sense of reality, which severely hurts the amount of fun to be had. Doom 3 looks to recreate that feeling.

'CAUSE WE ALL KNOW; RUNNING AROUND ON A mARS MOON BASE, FIGHTING HIDEOUS DEMON/ZOMBIE CREATURES IS ABOUT AS REAL AS IT GETS.

Sounds like a DNS problem to me...
