I liked the Dead Space series, but if EA/Motive are going to remake Dead Space (by borrowing gameplay from another franchise, in true creatively-bankrupt AAA gaming industry style), I'm not really interested.

Dead Space 1 was a result of Resident Evil 4, and is based on that games gameplay, systems etc (with their own twist). Lots of retrospective, history articles and interviews out there about Dead Space's origins. They took everything they could from RE4 to make Dead Space and openly admit it.

From the production designer: ""It's pretty obvious when you play Dead Space, to look at it and go, 'Yeah, it's almost like they decided to make Resident Evil 4 in space,' which is exactly what we were doing.""

Windows update being substantially sped up is welcome, it's been dragging ass for too long. They still need to do better QA on the updates themselves. The new Xbox app is a huge step up from the dire shit we had before, though I am still not a huge fan when compared to Steam. A new store was a no-brainer, that shit was a damned wasteland of IP theft and garbage ware. Microsoft really needs to curate it this go around. I only farted around with the leak in a VM but the performance and UI changes were on point. Anyways I'll check out the final version with an open mind as always.

I always push off my updates until they basically force them on me. I know you should update as quickly as possible for security reasons, but I've seen far too many stories of data or apps permanently going missing after a windows update, or other mysterious things breaking, and MS seems to just shrug and say they'll fix it when they can, and/or just roll back to the previous version, as if that always fixes whatever they broke (it doesn't). Personally, I know Windows 10 has just outright deleted a few of my apps without asking me. That was way back when it first came out, and I haven't seen it since then, but it always makes me nervous.

I've had to clean install / format, twice now, with Windows 10 major updates. Both times breaking something with my now oldman Asus Maximus Hero VIII. Asus's fault, Microsofts fault - I don't really care.

I see a new update pop up, and my colon clinches.

I too care not for a single thing on that list, except maybe Zelda but I still haven't even beat the first BotW.
The only thing I was looking forward too for the PC conference, was that the Thief inspired "Gloomwood" would have a showing.
It was planned, for awhile. Instead, they quickly filmed some skit about how Gloomwood was getting bumped for Gabe Newell. Good job.

This whole E3 was a huge disappointment.

The original version of PK was and still is amazing. The expac was ok too - loved the Theme Park and Orphanage levels.
All the other garbage that came out afterwards rehashing the original release is awful.

Proper new entry into the franchise, I am interested and perhaps a bit excited.

I do not know much about Venturebeat; but Steve has demonstrated no issue in calling out things for what they are whether that burns a bridge or not. His testing methodology is solid too. I haven't watched/read either review yet; did they review the exact same card from the same AIB (if applicable) and also compare the % gain to the same 3080 card?

Edit: Mostly watched and mostly read - compared the system specs tested. I'd go with Steve.

I've had problems installing every major update since 1903, pretty tired of seeing that "failed to install" message.

Every subsequent update has also seemed to break something random - with 1903 it broke the sound in a few games - these games would freeze from anywhere from 1 - 10 seconds randomly and it was related to whatever sound software the games used where apparently 1903 did something to fuck it up. Older games. To fix it you would have to completely disable the sound of the game by removing files. Fmodex64.dll be the culprit.

It has been for a long long time, and still is, $63.99 CAD on GMG for the regular standard edition.
Unless people have an issue with GMG, I dunno. I've been using them for years happily, often better prices over Steam and not one issue with a CD-KEY or anything else.

Generally enjoyed the demo. Seeing lots of good things here.

Couple things on the bad side, the game desperately needs an FOV slider. I've read it's locked at 81 in the demo, people believe the full version will include an FOV slider like RE7 did. There are fps stutter issues when an enemy melees you, most noticeably with the daughters in the castle. It appears everyone is having that issue despite PC configuration. Hope that's resolved in the full version. Also, interacting with the games menu is painful. Lots of minor annoyances, one right off the bat is you have to cycle through resolutions ONE by ONE and it actually forces you to change to that resolution. So I had to change resolutions about 6 times to get to 1440p (game was defaulted to 1080p) as it cycled through all the resolutions in between. What year is it?

Some tips: actually use the games brightness setting configuration like the game instructs you too. Additional mouse sensitivity settings are there, it's not just the one setting that caps at "9", there are two others that actually effect aiming and camera movement.

Stupid or not, people are talking about this game. A lot.

This game is going to slap sales when it launches.

I'm with ya. Diablo 3 is pretty good these days, the latest changes this new season have been welcome. Granted it's essentially power creep, with a little bit of QoL, dressed up as a new feature/update to followers, however the game is going on 9 years old and I'm fine with it. As usual, it's great to play with friends / clan members.

I will probably give D2R a go. My issue is I've spoiled myself with hundreds of hours of Path of Diablo. I am not sure I can just give up all the bug fixes, many quality of life changes, trade site, and the additional end game content the mod offers and go back to 1.14 on what is, at this time, just a graphics update. Auto gold pickup is nice though, even PoD does not have that.

No, I'm afraid not. I've enjoyed the first season quite a bit and I'm pretty happy a second & now confirmed third season is coming. I am neutral on Star Trek: Michael Burnham. Season 2, despite having 20 page list of flaws, was probably the best of the first three seasons thanks solely to Pike. I also agree with a lot of Redlettermedias take on it.

Picard - there was a lot of room for improvement. Where I have to disagree is that there was not one single character in Picard Season 1, except perhaps the Romulans Laris and Zhaban @ the Picard Winery I had any interest in. Cautiously optimistic for fan service Q and Season 2 but not convinced they won't completely ruin everything. If they haven't already.

I'll of course give Prodigy and Strange New Worlds a shot.

the dodge roll change is excellent. That said, there was no reason this should not have been THE ORIGINAL DESIGN OF THE SKILL, precedent correctly being set by just about every other ARPG and MMORPG with dodge skills over the last decade.
Too little too late, all of this and these patches. Now one year later.

I am unable to picture how this would work for Dark Descent. I'm not saying it's impossible, however.. too many of the areas were specifically designed for the horror/atmosphere and Gatherer encounters. There are countless examples that could be made, I will make the obvious first two that first come to mind. Why even have the Kaernk (invisible water guy) encounter and that entire area if you take it away / tone it down. Why even have the prison area if you remove the Gatherers and light all the torches to brighten it up, there is barely any story presented in those areas.

For Rebirth, its environments and encounters were blatantly designed to present the story first, vs horror. Like mentioned, there already was no threat of death in the game - if you "fail", you just get up again and the monster/encounter/reason for failure literally just disappears and you go on your way.

Keep in mind Blizzard cancels...what 50%+ of their *unannounced* titles during development. That's based off of the ones we know (through leaks or job postings) or have been rumored about, never mind what we never hear about.
