There's a couple mods out for this:

Note: I believe running mods disabled achievements

I've enjoyed BE, but it does play a lot like Civ 5. Yes there's some good changes but like all Civ releases it feels like one step forward and two steps back.

Few gripes:
* When the game ends it just ends. You don't even know why if it's because the AI beat you.
* No stat screens to compare yourself vs other factions. Makes it very hard to decide who to attack or ally with.
* Quests are cool but there's plenty of bugs which make completing some impossible.
* Trade routes are OP but maintaining them is a massive pain due to the simple UI.

And the writing is no where near Alpha Centauri. Not so unexpected though.

So far Civ: BE feels like an alien expansion more than a full priced title. They have used a lot of existing features in the engine such as city management, improvements and combat rather than innovating across all systems.

The game is not called Alpha Centauri 2 for a reason I guess!

For what it's worth the racing so far this year has been great and the Giro was dominated by young under 25 riders. You can never ever be sure but it certainly 'looks' cleaner. Guys that are awesome one day suddenly have a terrible day the next and lose time.

Having said that Contador is looking the favorite for the Tour and was most likely on the juice for his previous successes but he doesn't look the same now and instead relies more on experience and his excellent 'racing brain' to get ahead.

One of their worst game names, please leave the fluff for the expansion packs or the 'bit after the colon'.

I guess we're actually supposed to call this 'Heroes'. Oh yeah and there's also 'Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft'...

Getting into POE takes a bit, I know I played it on and off for a few months before the hook really got me.

But once you are hooked in, the depth of this game is amazing. It's designed to build upon complexity the more you play.

Where Diablo 3 is shallow, this game grows more and more over time. The developers are not trying to create a mass market game that appeals to everyone and that is OK! It's a niche and they want that.

I sunk a lot of time into the D3 and followed the community for a good while. The difference in the POE community and team is refreshing, it's a small 25ish sized company and front PR person is the lead developer! This is more comparable to Blizzard North circa 2000 than anything like Blizzard now.

I'll leave with a link to a video of a level 35 character showing a taste of the possibilities: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-sczXBrB8c

This BS is caused by the lack of pre loading assets. You don't notice on a SSD but on a spinning drive D3 will slowly load assets into memory on demand which is why the first few minutes of the game is ass.

Other games do this too but often give you the option to preload at the start (so slower loading time initially, but before you're actually running around in the game).

With the always online single player, RMAH gamble, further delays and a increasingly 'dumbing down' trend - could this be Blizzards first flop?

The Terraria update is more like a free expansion with the amount of content added. Great time to have a break from Skyrim perhaps

"Energy as a skill resource has been removed from the game. Instead, skill recharge will determine how often a skill can be used. The energy meter has been replaced by one that now functions as a dodge meter. The meter will display how much dodge power you have, and when you dodge you avoid all incoming attacks. You can dodge as long as you have energy left in the meter."

Makes sense to simplify things. I believe GW1 works this way as well. Having a 'dodge meter' will also help makes things a bit more realistic, i.e no bunny hopping.

There is a FAQ http://www.avernum.com/avernum/avernumFAQ.html that explains that is essentially a rewrite of Avernum (which was also a rewrite of Exile: Escape From the Pit).

I played through the demo of their last release, Avadon: The Black Fortress and found it enjoyable, if not a tad predictable if you've played previous Spiderweb games. I do wonder how it fairs on the iPad.

Edit: A review from iTunes: "The game has too much walking around and dialog. If you are looking for a hack and slash with loot, this is not it." had me lols.

If it isn't - maybe it should be. The execs can't ignore a division that's growing, especially when so many areas of MS (including the share price) are fairly flat. Also, it's the one consumer focused division that is actually succeeding.

The Terraria devs are iterating pretty fast too, next update will have UI polish and after that they've said they'll start working on adding more content (esp. higher level I believe).

Just got my Nightmare Pickaxe. Since I've bought the game the devs have pushed a new release which added new features. The Guide is much, much more useful now.

My only gripe with Terraria would be the lack of support setting up a multiplayer game. At home I had to setup port forwarding to host a game. I'm a techie guy, wasn't too bad setting this (been ages since I've had to do so though). However my not so techie friends would not be able to figure this out which sucks.
