I am fairly certain their main reasoning was to prevent fractioning of the playerbase which could lead to people and both camps finding it hard to find enough people to play with, and ultimately shortening the lifespan of their game making it harder to sell future DLCs.

meh, I don't really see it as desperation at all. More sales = more potential Portal 2 shop sales = more potential new steam users = more revenue from Valve's slice of other title purchases.

Honestly I thought of San Andreas when I saw the font choice for V on the teaser site, so I wouldn't be surprised.
I'm really enjoying it, too. I never tried the SP campaigns because I don't expect them to amount to much. I would probably be more critical if I hadn't played the previous Red Orchestra offerings and didn't know what I was getting.
DOTA 2 is the first Valve game I have no intention of purchasing...I don't find DOTA-anything interesting in the slightest.
I thought they also said the Portal DLC would be out this summer?

This game sounds less and less appealing as it gets closer to launch. I'm probably going to pass on this one, too. Too many alternatives.
