6. Re: Underworld Ascendant Trailer Jun 1, 2018, 18:17 CJ_Parker

I agree with the criticism of the art style. Dated graphics would be OK but the problem with UU is the lack of any kind of atmosphere. It just looks bland, artificial (claymation sounds about right) and soulless.

It seems like the environments could do with more features, more objects, more attention to detail, more TLC and then it could also use a lighting overhaul for a more "underworldly" look & feel.

The colors appear to be too "cool" in this video. It needs more yellow/red like the world is lit by candles and torches rather than white flood lights.

The lighting changes should then result in much better dynamic shadows and a high contrast between the lit and the ideally pitch black spaces.

All of the above would help a lot in creating a better -namesake- atmosphere. It's called Underworld ffs.

Muaaaahahahaha weeeelllll, who called this some time ago? Hmm? Well? Who?

FUCK YES!

Your resident CJ "Nostradamus" Parker, bitches!

You didn't actually call it out. The article Blue posted mentions it with

* Word is the game will be set in ancient Greece, saying this may be based on ideas originally cooked up for Assassin's Creed Origins.
* a tweet from Ubisoft art director Raphael Lacoste showing his recent vacation in Greece may have been a scouting trip for this project

Our discussion falls upon "ancient Greece" as a talking point. If you want to give credit for the first mention of ancient Greece in the forum, then that honor goes to Creston.

Nah. I called it . It's not the mention of a Greek setting per se (people have probably mentioned the possibility of a Greek setting thousands of times over the years) but I was specifically speculating whether they would do a historical or a fictional ancient Greece with the odyssey and the 'Odyssey' title gives it away. Odyssey = fictional ancient Greece*.

So it looks they are not doing ancient Greece but ancient fictional, mythological Greece. The odyssey is the perfect backdrop for a game, of course.
It now also seems safe to assume that this will lead to the next annual release in 2019 being Rome-themed.

* Well, at least I do hope that everyone here is aware that the odyssey never happened but that it is a work of fiction, right? You never know... I'm sure there are enough nutters who believe there were actual dragons living in caves in the medieval and cyclopses on Greek islands!

Exactly. The only twist with BR is that the playground gets progressively smaller while in LMS you just played on maps of various sizes.

It's really fucktarded to claim any kind of copyright on a multiplayer game mode that is as derivative as BR. It's just a minor variation of LMS.

Quick, someone get id Software to sue PUBG for making a 3D game with a FPS component. Those filthy THIEVES! OMG!

HAHAHAHAHA right on, dude. Tell it like it is!

I can only speak for myself, of course, but I don't even have that much of a problem with PUBG per se or its players.

The major problem for me is the retard publishers who will now chase like headless chicken after the next golden calf.
It will take away focus from other projects... maybe even lead to cancellations of decent games or the cancellation of game elements like single player campaigns because the publishers want to prioritize multiplayer + BR + MTX + loot boxes.

That's what's annoying. It's like when Hollywood cranks out one historical flick after another because of one big blockbuster success in that genre.

Does that not piss you off when you wish there were a bigger variety but you're not getting it because everyone is chasing after the golden calf?
Or when a really awesome movie gets released but it is barely getting attention because it is not the current fad genre so the media don't care to hype it?

This week's charts are off the charts wrt bad taste.

A remaster garbage that should have been a free patch to reimburse PC gamers for the piss-poor original port, casual garbage, early access garbage, more casual garbage, DLC milkage and so on and so on.

Keep it up, fellow gamers. See if we can hit the bottom of the barrel at full speed by lowering our standards even faster and deeper than ever before!

**Snipped**

Most of your post is bullshit mate. Saying that while living in Germany too. You do not actually know what your talking about. Just saying

Great arguments there. Not. You're full of shit. Just sayin'...

I know exactly what I am talking about as I have personally experienced these differences first hand when I was young. We moved a lot all over the country and school in Bavaria was BY FAR the most challenging.

I often had to do home work for three or four hours (and I was actually a lazy bum so did not even finish shit) while e.g. in Lower Saxony I did ZERO home work. The little home work there was I would do between classes sometimes IF it was urgent. You could get by, doing fuck all though.

In Bavaria the discipline was high. When the teacher entered the class room you had to be at your desk and STAND until asked to be seated. In Lower Saxony you could sit on the window sill until well after the class had started. When a teacher asked students to be seated they just laughed.

Generally, in Bavaria if you did not comply, you got a letter to your parents (three letters meant you had to show up at the principal's office... nine letters and you had to leave school).

Or just to name the difference in one subject: Latin. I started with Latin in 5th grade. We started reading Caesar's Bellum Gallicum in Bavaria in 8th grade. I moved to Lower Saxony in early 9th grade. They had not even started reading it yet at all but were still stuck with simple shit. We started reading the Bellum Gallicum in mid 10th grade. More than TWO full years BEHIND Bavaria.

And the list goes on and on and on...

It is also a fact that you do not have equal chances. Many universities and employers attribute a higher rating to a Bavarian Abitur than any other federal state's (and the shittiest Abiturs definitely come from the far lefty states such as Berlin and Bremen where you just need to prove that you can tie your laces all by yourself to receive an Abitur).

Also, you can check out any media, even a lefty liberal newspaper like the ZEIT (like here) and even there they have articles lamenting the state of our run-down educational system where e.g. in some of the lefty federal states they put literal retards in the same class as regular students just for the sake of equal opportunities (nevermind the fact that the regular students are massively held back in their development by the slow learners, of course).

Rightfully so. In Germany education is delegated to the federal states. All of the federal states that have a social-democratic leadership are in a piss-poor condition with regard to education ratings.

Bavaria always ranks the highest since they have had a conservative government for decades and they know what they are doing with a strict separation between different educational levels and high standards.

Schools in the lefty federal states operate on the basis of total equality. There must not be smarter students and dumber students. No, no, no. Everyone must be equal, of course, so they have all but gotten rid of scores, achievements and so on.
Equal opportunities for everyone, low standards for graduation ("Abitur"), low entry reqs for colleges/universities so even the dimwits can study etc. etc. etc.

This is a huge topic in public debate over here atm because Germany has crashed down the international rankings ladder in terms of educational standards.

The countries that rate the highest happiness ratings, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, etc, are all liberal social democracies. Socialism, and greater wealth equality, lead to happiness. Full-on Communism/Marxism, no. But socialism, yes.

Ummm... those countries are "liberal social democracies" by your definition and you even equate them with socialism? WHAT???

I guess this is only possible when you are American and have never been to Europe but have all sorts of prejudices in your head just because some European countries do have established social security/welfare systems or political parties that carry the "social" tag in their name.

As a European: No. Just NO. In Europe, socialism is VERY different from a social democratic/social liberal system.
Socialism in Europe = Eastern Europe before 1990. Real socialist parties only exist in very few European countries and are usually not very popular because of the complete and utter shit-show that was Eastern Europe before 1990.
Again: They are not AT ALL to be confused with social democratic/liberal parties.

Finally, how did those countries end up on your list in the first place??? What the fuck???

Switzerland has always been known to be a very small and conservative European country. Their current government is bordering on right wing. They have a lot of direct democracy with referendums and such so the exact opposite of socialist nanny states.

Denmark currently has a coalition that is tolerated by right wingers (Dansk Folkeparti). The party of the current prime minister is a conservative-liberal party (it's called "Venstre") that is considered mid-right.

Finland also has a coalition that is mid/liberal/conservative. The SDP which is the social democratic party (again: social-democratic has nothing to do with socialism) is not a part of the coalition and it has not been in power since 2012.

News Comments > Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Free DLC
3. Re: Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Free DLC May 24, 2018, 23:10 CJ_Parker

They are working on it and a first new balance pass will arrive in early June. I'm glad I shelved the game after reading the latest update.

It sounds like Deadfire will be a much better and more complete game next year... like a night & day difference almost once the DLCs are released, proper balancing, bugs fixed, modding added, new achievements, new features, MOAR everything...

*snip*

Just like the first Pillars of Eternity, the team is committed to support Deadfire with new features, content, bug fixes, and polish to make the game the best it can be. We are listening to your feedback on our forums, Reddit, social media, and user reviews - and the development team has many ideas for improvement, too.

Through 2018, we have plans to add more quality of life changes to make the game better and better. For the mod community, we will be releasing documentation on the game data formats, and will be working on tools to help facilitate mods. Another feature that the team is really excited about is what we are calling "Magran's Fires".

Similar to Berath's Blessings, these modes can be enabled from the main menu and will add gameplay modifiers for challenges above and beyond Path of the Damned.

In addition to the returning Triple Crown and Triple Crown Solo challenges, we will be rolling out challenges themed to Eora's gods, beginning with Berath, Galawain, and, of course, Magran. As always, we are listening to feedback on what you would like to see in future updates.

Don't forget we have three expansive DLCs on the horizon. The first DLC, "Beast of Winter", is due to land this July. We will be showing off the new areas and content in the DLC soon!

It's been an amazing journey, and we aren't done yet.

3. Re: Steam Spring Cleaning Event May 24, 2018, 21:37 CJ_Parker

No Reddit needed. Steam has all the info and the instructions. It's not rocket science Wink . You just click on the tasks and fulfill them. Pretty straight forward.

As for the rewards, you get a badge that you can level up by fulfilling even more tasks (and killing more bandwidth and disk space for shits'n'giggles) in the coming days.

The only interesting reward so far is a 'Mystery Item' that is added to your Steam inventory. It is a box with a question mark and the description says...

This item might be useful in a future sale.

Earned for participating in the Spring Cleaning Event in 2018.

So... might be something that will be useful during the summer sale in a month or so.
