News Comments > Hitman DirectX 12 Support
15. Re: Hitman DirectX 12 Support Mar 5, 2016, 19:40 CJ_Parker

Due to the fact that one of the bullet points in this newsbit says that AC will have "significant performance gains" on AMD, I'm inclined to believe that AMD will generally benefit a lot from games that use AC (and Hitman is certainly not a "Mantle showcase").

So I'm 100% with the Beaver here. I also don't really like and won't buy AMD for various reasons but credit where credit is due. They properly support AC in hardware and nVidia does not.
nVidia can not support it in hardware in Maxwell because it is not possible due to architectural limits and the software implementation via the driver that they promised months ago is still MIA.
That is why AMD definitely has a significant performance advantage in DirectX 12 when games use AC. It's a fact we have to deal with.

Other than that it seems like some of you guys are pretty wildly mixing up some things here. The whole VSync and borderless fullscreen crap etc. only applies to games that are either exclusive to the Windows store or bought as the Windows store version.
It is not a general problem of DirectX 12. AotS will be available from Steam and will not suffer from any such limitations. Rise of the Tomb Raider will be getting a DirectX 12 patch and not have those limitations as won't Just Cause 3 etc.

The Windows store (DirectX 12) bullshit limitations are and will only be a factor for Microsoft's gloriously shitty Windows store exclusive ports like GoW Ultimate, Quantum Break and Forza.
You can run 3rd party DirectX 12 games without any such retarded concerns as if they were DirectX 11 games.
Remember: DirectX 12 is Windows 10 exclusive but not every game that supports DirectX 12 is a Windows store exclusive (yet?).

Only for Ashes of the Singularity which is still in beta. When async compute stuff is involved (which is the case in AotS and apparently Hitman, too) then AMD is benefiting a lot from DirectX 12 while it is doing next to nothing for nVidia.

For example, the average FPS difference between DirectX 11 and 12 in AotS is zero on nVidia cards. Zilch. Nada. In fact, the game even runs slower on DirectX 12 in scenes with few drawcalls. It is only in scenes with many drawcalls that DirectX 12 is 2 or 3 fps faster. However, on average it does not matter and you end up with virtually no difference between DirectX 11 and 12 on nVidia.

AMD is a very different story. The FuryX really takes off in DirectX 12 and often times runs more than 20 fps faster than in DirectX 11!

^ all based on these full HD AotS benchmarks. The first block from top is average FPS, the second block is scenes with few drawcalls and the last block is scenes with many drawcalls.

It will be interesting to see how Hitman will fare. If AotS is any indication then AMD will probably lead the pack once more.

Windows was always the open platform, that's why it "won".

That all of a sudden they'd take a MORE extreme tack than Apple did with it's walled-garden app store is pure fantasy of the most paranoid doomsayer tinfoil hat kind.

Microsoft market capitalization: $411.52bn
Apple market capitalization: $571.15bn

'nuff said.

Microsoft might have "won" the desktop OS competition in the 1990s but they have lost on just about every other front - by landslides. They are now once again (way too late) playing catch-up and as history has proven, they do not shy away from doing really, really retarded shit in the process. Your corporate shilling for them is totally moronic. People have every right to be concerned that MS will do the exact wrong shit every time they are given a chance to do something stupid.

Now STFU and eat some intelligence enhancing pills or whatever it is you mentally challenged people do when caught with your brain pants down.

Haha in typical Microsoft desperation they put 3D Mark TimeSpy benchmark in that DirectX 12 clip. I'm really looking forward to "playing" that one. Dipshits.

Kinda curious why they forgot Rise of the Tomb Raider though. That one's recently been confirmed to be getting a DX12 patch.

Oh, and... yeah, really awesome DirectX 12 super-smooth framerate at 00:42. No, really. The power of DirectX 12 is simply overwhelming.

Uhhh.. no pre release review copies, no reviews are out yet. Big warning here.
They have a deal with IGN for exclusive coverage. I don't agree with that practice, but at least it explains why.

It also (once again) explains a lot about IGN and their "journalistic" integrity (or very apparent lack thereof) but what else is new? They have always been cheap sluts going down on all publishers for a little exclusiveness. "We promise to rate your game at least 9/10 if you let us review it first".

Do you think there are competing forces in MS, one that states it wants the PC to be a focus again and then the Xbone division that perhaps rather not. So they go out an do a crappy version for the PC (against what their superiors really want) so when it flops they turn around and go "SEE?".

You're way overthinking it. The very simple fact is that they are the most incompetent gig on the planet with Phil Spencer being the most humongous fucktard you could possibly imagine in a position like that.

And ultimately broken. Of course ten years was way too much of a rush for Microsoft to get it right.

Aaaawww come on. This is not fair to criticize Microsoft. They have only had ten years to optimize the game. How can you honestly expect a better result when those poor puppies had to rush it like mad and were put under all that pressure from the evil impatient consumers demanding a port?

"PC gaming is as important as its ever been in the company,” he said. “Windows is a critical franchise. Over 40% of the people running Windows 10 are playing games. We want to work hand in hand with our partners to make sure we have the best platform we can have.”

^ Phil Spencer

The ESL should really run a contest on who is the biggest lying shitbag of the gaming universe some time. Contestants: Christ Roberts and Phil Spencer. Award: A lifetime supply of grade A bullshit.

As far as the classic games are concerned (the X-Wings etc.), I would advise to do some research first because AFAIK the GOG versions have received some updates and tweaks for modern PCs that the Steam versions do NOT have. I'm not sure if this has changed in the meantime but I'd suggest to make sure to play with Google (or GOG/Steam forums) before anyone buys these potentially inferior Steam versions.

i really do think that christ roberts was trying to string them all along until the technology caught up to the point where all this would be possible - thing is, it wont be happening for another 5 years at the very least, more likely 10 with any kind of headroom and as something that is "common"... but regardless you need a strong software backbone to begin with and everyone knows that is the last thing happening at le ~C~L~O~U~D I~M~P~E~R~I~U~M~ (oo la la)

what a fucking toolbag

Dude, they currently have 16 players per instance and are struggling hard with increasing it to 24 (supposed to happen in one of the next few patches). All this at a VERY TINY FRACTION of the feature set and "fideliteeehhh" that the final game is supposed to have.
And on top of this, the instancing system is not even finished yet. At the moment everyone (well, all 16 players max) is in one instance. There is no going from instance to instance yet. No handoffs, no inter-instance data exchange, nothing of that sort... you know, like, the complete actual hard part of doing a multiplayer game is still a complete no show.
And Roberts that pathetic liar is talking large scale space battles with "a few hundred" ships. Bwwwaaaaaahahahahahahahahaaaaa.

It is completely out of this world unrealistic that a game like SC will EVER have large scale space battles with even ONE hundred, let alone "a few hundred" ships at the same time. Impossible. Physically and technically im-fucking-possible.

Unless, of course, Christ Roberts finds a way to make bits and bytes travel faster than light through wormholes or some shit like that (you know... a server and a client wormhole so be prepared to preorder your own signed by Christ Roberts wormhole from the Cloud Imperium web store any day now! ) and buys everyone a Cray supercomputer.

Christ Roberts Monday Morning Muppet Show:

" ... but I do think we will probably be able to get, like, quite a few hundred people doing that [large scale space battles]... "

Yup. Sure.

A "few hundred people" in a space battle at the fidelity that SC is aiming for sounds toooooooootally realistic.

Dear kids: This is why you want to stay away from drugs. Not healthy, mkay?

Given this game being BF I am sure we will get the title screen for the $59.99 price and everything else will be DLC

True that. I would only buy the Premium edition for sub $20 years down the line but EA can still shove their $60 + $50 ripoff model where it's dark and brown. Luckily, with this retarded setting, I will never even have to think about it.

Re the setting, I wouldn't have minded a BF2143, a return to WW2, Vietnam or just another modern one (because why not?).

But WW1? Fook that shite properly. What a bore. WW1 were the trench wars. First down and 10 in the morning, then fourth down and 9 in the evening. Yippie! A whole yard in a day!

The weapons were crap and clunky, low rate of fire, breaking all the time, overheating, jamming, long reload times etc.
Air combat sucked with the flying lawnmowers that gained altitude at a max rate of 1ft/h and tanks were about as mobile as a 90 year old granny.

TL;DR WW1 iz azz
