I think it's great. Very unique. I've enjoyed it with a crew of drunk strangers and even sailing alone is kind of cool, especially solo galleon! The quests are not super deep, and are all variations of the same thing so far, but are more than fun enough. And you can always go full pirate and steal other peoples chests once they have done the work if you want.

It was perfect on the first day, started getting crashes and lag issues yesterday. Full price for an MP only game might be hard to swallow, but If I'm not sick of it by the end of the Beta, which seems likely, I'm on it for sure.

And it's got a great look to it. The cartoon look might disappoint some but the lighting and water effects are top level.

Yeah, ED is pretty dry. But that is also what it's going for.

Get back and let me know how Rebirth goes. I've never heard anyone say anything nice about it in relation to any other game, including it's predecessors. Or being happy with any amount of money they spent on it. I have a vague recollection of bad character models, no proper 6DOF and the most horrendous hyperspace mini-game I have ever played followed by immediate uninstall.

The hackers have changed their cheats already. They have moved the hit zone of their aimbots from the head to the body. In hopes to avoid a HS% ban.

They should have never announced they are GOING to ban, they should have just done it. They still haven't banned the "100,000" they said they were going to.....idiots.

Cheats are in 2/3rds of the games I am in.

Oh man that sucks. Had a good run last week, lots of high score finishes without any obvious hacking (Though possibly.probably lots of subtle "1 shot in 20 to the head" and clever ESP usage, like the brits in WW2". But that's still an improvement over what was happening a few weeks ago.

Want to get into it again, but between Sea of Thieves, Rust (the horror) and this MH4 nonsense calling my name I cannot imagine starting it up unless I see a few mates on already.

As for this performance fix, sounds weak. I thought the whole point of the 100 players in the lobby at the start was to stress test the server and client performance so people know if they can handle that, it would handle anything. I guess they are calling it quits and saying "99% of the time, we only have to manage 3-20 people within firing distance of each other" which sucks as I'm sure custom games and tournaments will push that limit super hard.

Also it's way more polished than some post release games I have that have been out a few years. Phenomenal. Who knows if there is enough there, but the framework would support a LOT of extra content, especially if they can keep adding islands and quests at a decent rate.

It's the co-op/competitive Wind Waker game I didn't know I wanted.
Too bad Microsoft has its "PC games supportive" paws on it again. That means many people cant play it on the PC.

No doubt. I was lucky and it worked flawlessly. Xbox target specs means tnruns smooth on my mid-low range and card as well. And ts gorgeous. It’s 3am and I don’t want to sleep, I will stay on till I pass out because it’s unpredictable, crazy, relaxing, weird, satisfying, infuriating, everything. One of the first games since Payday 2 where I can enjoy the game with randoms.

Make a game like this.. but 100% SP only with some fancy AI, and I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Actually, I want base-building in it though.

For me, better games than PUBG aplenty. Subnautica comes to mind. A true SP survival exploration game. (Soon out of EA)

Sir you are being hunted was an SP survival game as well. But it's just not the same.

I feel like a lot of you haters would actually love it, but it does require a certain amount of patience and the acceptance that you might not win very often. I think it's the only PvP I do these days.

It's lack of innovation is a strength in some ways. No crafting or taming or building or eating and shitting or any other obscure knowledge required. Just humans hunting humans with guns. It's an advantage to learn to use your sights to range-find but most the game occurs at sub-100 meters.

I'm still enjoying it immensely. It generates moments of insanity like no other game, without those moments being diluted by the rinse and repeat infinite respawn meaninglessness like with Battlefield. Almost every encounter is unique, and since positioning, teamwork and strategy are way more important than having the wired reflexes of a kid on amphetamines I feel may more responsible for my victories and failures.

My team-mate spotted some duders go into a house last night, and I was coming up behind them knowing I would almost certainly die because fuck assaulting a house and my geriatric reflexes, but he had the brilliant idea to just start spraying down the house. No targets or anything, and the bullets and gunfire and smashed windows covered my entry and the easiest kills I'll ever get from two distracted opponents.

Of course we get outsmarted way more often than stuff like that happens, but no AI enemy will ever give you that satisfaction. Also cheaters destroy this game even worse than that guy that goes 40-0 in Quake but they come in waves. When it's bad just don't play for a week until the waters clear again. Last week or so everyone seems just as useless as us and it's been amazing.

Seeing UW1 in a store being played is still the most mind blowing thing I have ever seen a computer game do, compared to what we had at the time it was insane.

I was too stupid to complete UW2, got stuck in a Lucasarts Adventure game style loop where I was jumping between multiple realms trying to work out what I needed to do next. I think the first game, with it's lip service to the Ultima theme was superior but one day I should go back and see if that is really true.

I'm not holding my breath for this, been here too many times and had my dreams shattered by mediocrity to get on the hype train for this, but I'll be quietly optimistic.

scary world we live in now where you can get arrested for cheating in a video game.

That's just Fucked up. There is no other way to put it.

They weren't just cheating, they were "creating and distributing" cheats.

This. They had a business that centered around making and distributing cheats.

And that might actually get you arrested here in the States as well. It's a violation of the DMCA and at least is a gargantuan fine if not jail time.

I'm less likely to spend money on cosmetics or expansions or whatever for a game I've stopped playing, and when cheating is bad, I don't play (This was most of last week). So it would seem bluehole would have a case to sue for damages. I'm sure someone in that chain is making cash on their 10 dollar aimbots or whatever.

As for penalties, compared to other shit that gets the Chinese sent to re-education/work/organ harvesting camps this seems almost appropriate. At the very least those PC cafes that install hacks on the machines for their customers should get big tasty fines.

PUBG getting pretty comfortable up there. It sucked last week, but the last few days feel cheater free (Had one or two suspiciously accurate shooters but that might be more of the fact that people with 4000 hours of CS have jumped on). Still crossing my fingers that this thing is huge and appealing enough that some mini-carmack somewhere decides to actually solve client side security. I wonder if this is anything like how vaguely religious people feel.

Getting some good seconds and 3rds though. Getting over trigger panic and making that last kill is so hard for me still but it's getting better and better, I'm making the other dudes bleed 3/4 of their health now whereas before I would just get rolled.

Really would like to try the ARK version or Fortnite, see another take on the theme, but the idea of all the extraneous bullshit I need to learn is a big turn off. I wonder why ARMA hasn't done a standalone, their king of the hill stuff isn't quite the same. The way rounds work and rotate into each other is a big attraction and smaller games just wont be able to do that in 7 lag friendly regions over 6 gametypes.

PUBG is so pure with almost nothing except positioning and movement tactics to worry about with a bit of shootery added in, but if your sub 100/50m game is decent you can make most circles work.

I can't imagine having to deal with the crafting, taming and building that these other games have. I'm sure the galaxy brain types love it though.

That they don't region lock means they allow 300+ pings to play together? How is that working? Magic rubber bands?

I have no idea what PUBGs netcode is like, but while 300 is certainly pushing towards unplayable it should still be 'tolerable' (if only barely).

That isn't too much worse than what lots of people used to get playing on Korean StarCraft servers. And the micro in that game really makes that matter.

I suppose it really only depends on the netcode (though if they were also getting on VPNs that certainly wasn't going to help) and I don't know enough at PUBG to say anything there.

300 is bad for an ActionQuake server circa 1998, but you could make it work! (hitscan sawn off for the win!) but in this game, where proper strategy and positioning is almost everything, it shouldn't matter.

In real life, as in this game, if you get into a situation where a half second lag makes the difference, YOU HAVE F(*& up! Bigtime! it is more Arma than counterstrike.

Halo 3 had that 3d replay like, what, 10 years ago now? On a console! Was super awesome for tracing the insane sniper ricochets and physics deaths. And I think Quake had something like it as well (Though maybe you were locked to FP there).

It is fucking awesome in PUBG, though still needs some UI work, and a win is much more fun to watch afterwards than to be a part of (due to the insane stress I get from this game) but it's hardly 'changing games' with a 10 year old+ feature.

^ this

I mean that fucking pathetic asshole of a fuckstick "swatter" with his retard dickhead nick "SWAauTistic" is human trash of the first order but the dumbass motherfucker of a cop ain't off the hook.

Especially because...

The incident in Wichita began at about 6:15 p.m. on Thursday when police received a call stating that someone had killed his father by shooting him in the head. The caller further claimed that the shooter was now holding his mother, brother and sister hostage.

You know, I would maybe have a quarter ounce of understanding IF the caller would have only mentioned female victims so that -by default- if a man comes to the door, it sort of must be the perp but that obviously wasn't the case.

The shitcops were responding to a situation with a male perp and at least one male victim/hostage. Then why the fuck fire unscrupulously as soon as an unarmed guy steps out the door? Fucking unreal.

The guns/APCs/body armor/murder training are waaaaaay cheaper than having an on-call professional hostage negotiator.

My hand shakes so hard I cannot shoot straight in the final circle of PUBG most the time. It's easy to fuck this kind of thing up, Spec-ops dudes miss shots in combat they make 100% of the time in training, but maybe select and train people and give them procedures and practices that take this into account.

I wonder what attracts certain individuals to a specialty within a profession focused on violently entering peoples homes. It's a necessary task (sometimes), but surely the pay isn't worth the danger. Is it a good career move or is shooting perps/black people/junkies appealing on some level?

My problem with EA is that some games just never seem to get out of early access. Seems like some devs spend more time keeping their audience updated than actually working on finishing the game.

I liked the old model more: Developers work on their game, finish the product they always intended to make, then listen to their customers for continuous support.

I don't get EA gamers either. Why bleed a game dry before you manage to play the finished product?! I accidentally bled Subnautica dry because I didn't know I was playing an EA (no comment...). I'll play the 1.0 when it's done, but the newness is gone.

I think some genres work better for this than others. MP only games seem to benefit from it, like PUBG (Which still feels EA after 1.0 but is still great). Same with sandbox sims like Kerbal, Factorio or Prison Architect which were all amazing well before 1.0.

Anything Narrative does not suit it. Unexplored and Pit People are fantastic but seem like they might have been better cooked longer before public release, though they may be benefiting from crowd sourced testing. Pit People especially is going to be sad when it gets released because my daughter and I have already experienced most of it piecemeal, though maybe I'll be surprised and there will be 5x more story content on release but I doubt it.

Yep, all about those silencers! Even if people are close enough to hear it, much harder for them to work out where you are.

Of course, if I get a fully kitted M416 or Scar with silencer I can guarantee I will very soon do something stupid and get unceremoniously executed.

I love this game but the way it subtly and not so subtly nags at you to spend money drove me away.

I was always at the mercy of players who could fire premium rounds at me (Although it felt grate when you bounced someone's gold round off your KV1 12 times a game!), and while the premium tanks were not better than the free/grind ones they were much cheaper to run, allowing the drivers to be more aggressive.

After level 6 if you didn't buy premium time, it became quite an effort to progress. Around the level 8 tanks (Which I loved) they became almost impossible to keep repaired without premium time unless you were way better at the game than I ever was.

Yep, in case anyone is confused "Evil communist nation with 'red tape' and 'regulations' crippling their businesses and making their population lazy and drunk, forced a large multinational to adopt a disgusting, invasive 'consumer friendly refund pllicy' throughout the world." Thanks Australia!

That said, I wonder how the refund policy affects developers making small, sub 2-hour games. Are they putting in padding where none was needed or adding unnecessary features (Broken online multiplayer in twitch-based local games was a thing for a while) in order to circumvent it? Or do they just charge a low enough amount that people can't be bothered to request the refund?

My roommate and I have nearly 20 fps increase and things just feel smoother in general.
Vaulting is a huge game change too.

Fired it up this AM - started a game, intentionally did not play BETA so I could play the new map with the update.

Join a game, gets stuck at title screen, but I can hear people talking and the plane in the background. ALT-F4, went and got something to eat. Came back, figured I would try it again as I read they were having lots of issues with the 1.0 servers.

Get to title screen, says game is still in progress!? hahaha figured my AFK ass would be dead instantly. I load up the game, I am near the southern coast all by myself. I run and find some ok loot right away. 25 left! I run my tail off, stay on the blue line, find some houses that have not been looted, weird. End up getting a few kills along the way and get 2nd level gear.

Do the belly crawl near last few circles since I don't have a sight, just a couple ACOGs. Grabbed a silenced ump off some dude I killed.

Ended up with 3 kills and 2nd place. Circle favored the other guy, he had a rock. gg. This is why the game is awesome.

It isn't a twitch game. You can be tactical.

Yep! Game is great in spite of it's issues. On twitch I watch Notthatwillsmith because like me he is a terrible shot/twitch gamer, who misses pickups on the ground because he is probably legally blind, but has an awesome winrate with his buddies because he makes good tactical decisions. And because there is no crafting/building, tactical decisions is all you make. (Basic stuff from Arma like how to use terrain will keep you alive a lot of the time).

It's the same as the Arma experience, 20 minutes of looting/walking with a chance of a surprise violent end except much less of a pain to set up and replay.

There was a problem with the leaderboards, so I got to rank 29 last night in OCE duo due to the actual good people not having their shit recorded for a few hours. I'll enjoy that and the sick new replay feature showing how awesome/lucky we were while I settle back down to my natural spot a few tens of thousands positions lower...

Game is much better optimised now. Had a few games without lag at the start, and a few with that still wasn't as bad as the test server lag. I'm sure they will work it out eventually.
