Apparently you can be easily satisfied with a ship a world a sandbox and literally no content aside from 3 repeating quests though So clearly a lot of games are in your ballpark ^^

Very few actually. Or at least compared to the number that come out.

You can get reductive about almost any game and if that is all SoT was then it would indeed be boring, and if that's all you see or experience in it then no wonder you would hate it, but it's an amazing framework for hijinks and co-op/pvp if you have the right frame of mind and sometimes that is all you need. I have other games with 'Content' when I'm in the mood for it though few of them are groundbreaking compared to what we got in the late 90's.

SoT is doing it's own thing really well, though there are many areas that can be tweaked and improved. It's a technical marvel and as with PUBG, it's one of the few games that can surprise and fill me with fear and elation in unpredictable ways due to the way the MP works.

But yeah, if I want to see numbers go up or have a story or try to reach the top of a leaderboard there are plenty of moribund genres to explore. I just wish more studios were able to take the risk on something new and fun.

@Ventry, nice country you got there mate.

It's bloody great mate!!!
However, we, as it is with most "western" countries, are being invaded by limp wristed, snowflake, lefty fun police.

The battle continues.

Aren't you US citizens lucky to have Donald Trump as POTUS.
He slaps the taste right out of those snowflakes mouths.

Trump 2020
Shapiro 2024.

I believe it's the legacy of puritanical Protestantism that infests the class of people (Or at least the powerful religious voting blocks they need to maintain control) that believe they should run the country behind the compromises in the legislation that gave us R18.

It was those pesky servants of the Queen, the State Governors, that put up a fight against the new classification in the first place.

Could be wrong though. Still, it's nice to live in a country where almost nobody has guns and I never have to think about my family or I getting shot or shooting themselves. So I think we still have a good deal. For now.

I couldn't get into it, even though so many of the ideas seem like they are exactly what the genre needs.

The beta felt clunky, ugly and boring. That was months ago though. If anyone has anything nice to say about it let me know.

I feel like Battletech might be about to release it's articulated Arm+ modded ferosteel fist around my neck... or it might have me for another month. Such a strong start to the year along with God of War, Sea of Thieves and Into the Breach. A game has to really bring it in order to get my money these days. And I've bought enough 'Attempts' at re-invigorating RTS that I think I'll hold off for the real deal if it ever happens.

Your loss. Game is great as is, with heaps of content already. I wont buy this off-sale just because I havn't finished the campaign with all the lords and factions the game comes packed with.

Pretty generous of them having a free monster map that combines the first games factions and DLC with those in this game for those that own them.

I'm not sure if I will even buy any new factions, most the main WH standards are already taken care of. I'll make exceptions for the 80% off sales, like with the Paradox stuff.

Here's hoping The Expanse can be picked up too. If there was any reason to give a shit about SyFy it's surely gone now.

I'm sure it's an expensive series to produce, like with BSG. A lot of sets and an ensemble cast and heaps of CGI, but surely Netflix would step in? It sounds like it even makes money. I feel like BSG needed to end when it did, or switch to a 10 episode per season belter instead of what we got.

The Expanse however already has a good roadmap, if each book is worth a series or two (And they are!) it should have years of legs left.

I imagine B99 is a lot cheaper to make despite the talent. Fingers crossed we get a similar outcome. But I prefer Netflix to NBC or some cable channel given I don't live in the States.

I think that all people, terminally ill or not, should have access to a humane and comfortable death if they've decided they are done. A mandatory waiting period of 30 days or so should hopefully keep impulsive suicides down and ensure only people who really want out are using it.

There is no reason we should be telling someone they have to keep living when they don't want to, or force them to kill themselves in an unreliable (and potentially messy) way that could put a burden on other people or leave them in an even worse state.

Some people are in immense amounts of pain. Others suffer from untreatable mental illness. Others just don't have a lot to live for and even just existing from day to day becomes tiresome. I have nothing but sympathy for these people and I'd never ask them to keep going because of some hollow platitudes about things getting better.

30 day waiting period would probably do it. Especially if the process involves evaluation and counselling. A lot of young people are in pain and don't want to live but can be treated in order to see the other side.

Easy access to guns denys them this. It's just too easy compared to most other methods.

Capitalism already has a method for murdering unproductive old people, deny them healthcare they are no longer capable of being productive enough to afford. But a socialised system is more than capable of doing the same and being even more inflexible. Hospital ethics boards and doctors around the world make hard choices about who to treat and operate on and when your budget is getting squeezed to pay for rich peoples tax cuts and aircraft carriers those choices get harder.

But what we don't want is extending people's misery when they are 104 years old or similar situations. We are not monsters like mother Teresa. Suffering does not bring you closer to your pretend god.

That fan noise is bad enough on the PS4 normal. I need my noise canceling headphones and a few meteres gap between me and the machine to make it bearable. (Game is still amazing. Frame rate issues fixed by restarting the machine on the two occasions it happened in 30 odd hours of gameplay and counting that I have loved every minute of.) I think Sony's awesome engineering is starting to slip.

Though not as bad as Microsoft's software team. That Xbox UI (And the windows app) are trash. Something they got so right the first time on the X360 and yet somehow forgot how to do it? I'm keeping my eye out for a cheap S just to catch up on my old man stories (Halo), have my XBLA library/backwards compatibility and be able to play Forza and Sea of Thieves with more family members but I'm surprised they are making any money on that thing. I guess they were able to grow the market enough last time out that they can flog low margin/subsidised hardware and still make bank from a distant second place in market share.

You do realize that you can play Forza on PC with Xbone players, yes? Only games where the pc gets a distinct advantage do they block crossplay. I don’t know about Sea of thieves, it doesn’t seem like a game that cares about accuracy much, so it may have full crossplay. Gears of War 4 allows co-op crossplay modes but not adversarial.
And you don’t have to pay for a Gold account to play it from PC, so there’s that nice bonus.
That statement about Forza involves both Forza 7 and Horizon 3.

Yeah I am aware of the cross play. My intention to buy one is based on it for the games you mention which I already enjoy on PC and play with other family members remotely, but an X1 is a cheapish way to let the kid get in on it as well.

So does this mean they've "remastered" the controls? I got Dark Souls 2, played it for a minute or two and immediately turned it off. I don't play console games and I don't use the game pad so for me, Dark Souls was not very well optimized when it came to controlling the game.

You don't play DCS with an xbox controller or Streetfighter with a mouse either. Some games are made for controller. To make it work as well with controller as the very different mouse is ridiculous and would water down the design. I have games that do both, but rarely both well and when they do it's usually a design a few notches down in intensity compared to the best in genre. (Batman and Asscreed mostly get away with it, and I love those games but the combat is no Darksouls)

No, but it's a voluntary transaction. I'm a fan of DF originals and remakes, but they don't all work out. I have never given them a dollar in crowdfunding though.

It's like getting angry at a poker machine for not paying out. Game development is a gamble. Even the best teams have failures and canceled projects. The weakness of kickstarter is that you are committed to them regardless. Save your money, buy things when they release and get reviews. No anger or disapointment. Easy.

G sync is much stricter for monitor manufacturers to comply, thus easier to buy a better quality monitor. Freesync less so, but things getting better.

When I built my last PC in late 2015, the Gsync version of my ASUS panel cost 30% more. I'm pretty sure both monitors were identical other than the price tag and a little proprietary Nvidia chip in the monitor. If you are telling me that little chip is worth 300 dollars than no Nvidia card is competitive because you need something a quarter or more of it's cost in your monitor and also I don't believe you.

At the time people could pick out Gsynch in blind tests, but the difference, again, was not 300 dollars worth of quality.

So I got an AMD card. And because Nvidia are not VESA compliant and support freesync, I am unlikely to ever switch until my 1400p monitor needs replacing, so they are out of contention for a few years at least. Not that they care with 90% of the market (And all those people locked into their GPU's because of monitor purchase). And if their monitors still require that premium for functionality that is all but on par with the open source version? Forget about it. That's hundreds of dollars that can go elsewhere into the build or to some scotch or something.

The 390x is still doing great and it's cold enough here that the extra heat is welcome. I tell everyone buying now though that you want variable refresh regardless of which way you go. Everything is just so much more... solid.

I'll probably re-assess the whole thing when HDR PC monitors settle down.

That....that doesn't seem like something EA would ever consider doing. Where's the part where they buy the Indie studio, forcing them to make weak sequels until they're no longer profitable, and then dissolve the studio?

IP/Tech/talent development/multi-project deal? Some kind of tax break? If true I'm sure there is something they get/got.

Brothers was/is amazing and everyone should play it. This game seems a lot rougher but still interesting.

Nice to see something new once in a while.

Not much of a game but an amazing achievement anyway (I never played II). I lived in Japan 20 years after the game was set but I swear some rural and industrial parts of that country are almost exactly as they were in that title, or at least in terms of architecture and weird independent combinis with fridges full of fish products.

And how come Warhammer keeps getting kick ass games but Warhammer 40k keeps missing the mark? Can we start asking companies that put out good Warhammer games to follow up with a 40k add on or something?

Getting really fucking jealous over here.

FFS, even blood bowl is more fun than most 40k games I've tried lately.

Well, need to remember, GW's Golden Boy for 40K [THQ] went under and was chopped up/sold off. So now they're kind of casting a wider net, but limiting what can really be done.

We've had a few different games since then that are good, but hard to hold interest in. [Battlefleet Gothic: Armada springs to mind.] And they'll sell regardless if they're good or not, because people love the IP for 40K.

It'd be GREAT if we got more 'Space Marine'-type games, rather than more RTS games. We've got Inquisitor on its way and I'm assuming a number of others in the works. I enjoyed Deathwing for what it was, but it needed more. Hell. I'd be happy if another company got their hands on the 40K IP and the assets for that MMO that they were working on 8 years ago. Or, a proper Planetside2 clone [Not Eternal Crusade. That ... mmm. -.-]

And I just snagged Blood Bowl, so may take a poke at that. Heard the RNG likes to pin players down and bone them. -.-

BB is dice/RNG based, but managing that IS the game. Forcing your opponent to make as many dice rolls as possible while executing plans that minimize your own is the whole game. If your opponent is outplaying you so hard the RNG is involuntarily impregnating you, you've lost before you even rolled that dice.

That's more like it. I was shocked at their response to the outcry from unhappy customers - basically that there was a plan to soon have a plan - indicating that at least someone at Rare (or maybe Microsoft?) genuinely thought the game was fine as is at launch and were surprised at the discontent, which is simply astounding.

I imagine they had post-release support planned but the depth of discontent and negative press might have forced them to re-evaluate and prioritize to get the most useful stuff out ASAP. A new public event makes the most sense as the one they have is the source of most of the best shenanigans I continue to have most nights.

Although maybe your story is the correct one, or something else was going on. I doubt they had nothing planned though. It's not like they have another announced game they have to put all their devs on immediately.

I am a notorious Bungie apologist but I haven't seen anything yet to make me want to get the PC version and the DLC. Not while there are so many other games I want to play. Hopefully when they release their year 1 collection with a nice chunky expansion I'll get to do all this content.

Got over 100 hours on the PS4. I'm sure it's even more fun at 1400/60fps or whatever I end up running it at but it can wait. At least until a new Raid!

Vermintide 2 is super impressive. I hope the Bungie peeps are playing it. It's just 13 strike-equivalents with some good randomisation, distinct difficulty levels and appropriate rewards and some good optional push-your-luck for better loot roll mechanics. If Destiny strikes were like that it would be amazing. it makes the trash and boss encounters exciting in a way Destiny isn't anymore.

Also there are zero concessions for not having trackIR. I’m not sure padlock view controls on the hat cut it, cannot read some of the dials for the preflight checks and when trying to zig zag on taxi to see the where I’m going I’m working throttle, wheel breaks and rudder and have no fingers left for view controls! Might finally be time to bite the bullet and get one.
