I hope the 404 in the www.steamgames.com/steamworks link doesn't mean that Valve changed their minds.

EVE is not a dogfighting game. The flight model is more like commanding a crew how/where to fly/shoot. The game is really more about empire building than piloting, but the battles that settle the destiny of said empires are settled in gritty, toe to toe combat, but at the same time. . . . battles are more about who has what gear, then any skill. It's like paying $15/month to play rock-scissors-paper.

Well, I just made it sound very negative. It's more fun than I made it sound. I was in most of the beta phases and played it after retail for just over a year. I did really enjoy it, but I did eventually get burned on it.

Two of the absolute coolest things about that game are the fact that there is one server cluster. . . there's no shards. . . everyone plays in the same universe. You don't have to change servers and/or start new characters to hook-up with your buddies. Also, the sheer massiveness of the map. You can't just teleport your way across the map in a matter of minutes. It's massive. It would prolly take you ~24 hours of piloting to cross from one side of the map to the other. This allows for different, regional in-game cultures to develop. This game also has the coolest and most realistic in-game economies of any MMO. Oh, wait. . .that was three things.

I'm glad to see them moving to PayPal as well. . . he's a copy of an unanswerd E-mail I sent Reakktor's business office once.:

To Whom it May Concern:

I want to make you aware of a situation in which Click2Pay was 100%
responsible for your loss of a customer.

I participated in the original beta test for Neocron. I greatly
enjoyed the game and the only reason I didn't continue playing when
the game went retail is because at the time, I simply didn't have the
patience to start over again with a new character after having a
rather advanced character towards the end of beta.

With many months having passed and with Neocron 2 out, I realized that I
really wanted to get back into Neocron again. I downloaded the trial
version, went through the setup and account creation dialogues and
excitedly began the tutorial.

Now I have to back-up a bit and explain something about myself. I'm a
little older than most gamers. I'm 35, with a career, a wife, and a
two year old daughter. Daylight hours keep me busy with work and
family commitments, so the only time I can find for myself to play
games is late at night after my wife and daughter have gone to bed.

Well, there I was, knee deep in the tutorial, when the phone rang.
Not just the phone on my desk, but every phone in the house. The
phone on the nightstand next to my wife's head. The phone accross the
hallway from where my daughter sleeps. All of them. Above the din of
my daughter screaming, my wife yelling to enquire which of our
relatives must be in the hospital to have justified a phone call at
that hour, and the barking of our dogs, some woman, whom by her accent
and the extreme poor quality of the phone connection, I can only
assume was calling from India, was trying to explain to me that I had
to verify my Click2Pay account.

Now in this age of Identity-Theft and "Phishing Schemes," I was not
about to start divulging personal and financial information over the
phone to someone who just called me, seemingly out of the blue. I
explained this to the woman on the other side of the line and she said
that was fine, but that I would need to call a toll free number to
complete the verification of my account.

The number she gave matched what was listed as the Click2Pay Customer
Service line in the registration dialogue windows so I called it. I
explained to the guy whom answered that I received a call saying I
needed to verify my account, but he explained that my account was
locked out because they were unable to reach me at the number I
provided. He went on further to explain that they would not verify
account if I called them, only if they could call me. I said that
this was un-acceptable as I did not want the phone ringing at that
hour. He tried to explain that this was a "security feature." I told
him to go to hell.

For 99.9% of the world, a valid credit card number with matching
expiration date, three-digit verification number, customer name, and
billing address is prefectly adquate for validating a credit card
transaction. Insisting on waking up a house full of sleeping people
is ludicrous. At the very least they could exercise some discretion
in regard to time zones and acceptible times to make peoples' phones
ring. I'd strongly suggest you choose your business partners more
wisely.

I've loved X3 and X2 as well, but ultimately I had to re-format my machine and rebuild it without X3, due to the StarForce virus.

Then when they released X3 on Steam, I was hopeful there would be an upgrade path for those of us who paid for the StarForce version. . . there was not. Now I doubt there will be access to a Linux version for us either.

Multi-player ship crews will be a must, together with internal ship environments you can walk around in, interact with your crewmates in, perform maintenance tasks on your ship, etc.

A Firefly-themed EVE-Online ain't gonna cut it.

I would personally urge everyone to download and try this demo. The game hasn't gotten many very good reviews, but amost everyone reviewing it, is reviewing it as a twitch FPS, which Sniper Elite is not.

The game is about sneaking around, and stealthfully getting to the right place at the right time to make that key shot. In most missions, you're a lone commando with the odds set dead against you.

The gameplay is gritty, nerve-racking, and realistic. It's also got great replay value. Definitely one of the best titles I've played in a long time.

If you go here:

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1309

You can download 83.40-WHQL. They're much better than the 82.12 beta crap I was forced to use with my AGP 6800GS, though still not perfect.

Guru3D also has a 83.60, but they would not work with my kit - I think the require a Dell machine.
