hm... loved the game but I've yet to respect a game with micro-transactions. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but it just feels "dirty". I could be wrong about this one though... THQ is mature enough to hopefully pull it off fairly correctly.

That being said... anyone out there play a micro-transaction game that they didn't feel punished by for not spending here and there on a regular basis?

AWESOME! Another game the pirates can attempt to justify stealing!

dem or no demo it has no multiplayer... the game is asking for piracy.

valve, and blizzard (excluding mmos) are the most successful at fighting piracy in my opinion. obviously due to steam and battle net being such an integral part (more so for steam nowadays) of the gameplay experience.

Yeah, I know I shouldn't be so dismissive. It's just I've become numb to the letters WW2 RTS in the last 5 or six years.

well stick around, WW3 might be closer than you think. after that, by your calculations, you should be content for another 5 or six years.

I don't get why they didn't just do DAOC 2. I would have gone fanboy apeshit over that, provided it was halfway decent.

well they purchased the warhammer license (and game, wasnt the warhammer mmo already under developement by someone else? i remember it had a more mature look.) most likely with the hopes of riding on the name and the history and fanbase. think lotr mmo. i never played DaoC so i cant agree or disagree, just offer my opnion on why they didnt do what you requested. one can argue, though, that DaoC already had a good following to warrant a comparable level of interest from previous fans of the game. ultimately, i think warhammer does have a broader following and a warhammer mmo had never been done. warhammer stuff on pc generally doesnt do well thouh, with the exception of Rituals creations. i think the dawn of war series has been the most succesful warhammer to pc adaptation, no? (my, that was a long paragraph)

what if they just implemented a bot check/security feature like many of the free online downloading services, or when you sign up for a forum. im talking about the box with warped numbers/letters that you have to input to continue. i dont see how a bot would be able to pass that. the question would be how to implement it in the game without making it extrememly annoying. perhaps time based (ever few hours?) and maybe reward the player by giving them a disposable useful item equivalent to their player level (like a health/mana potion, etc). but the final question in this scenario remains. how do bring up this request. maybe the next npc you visit after x amount of hours but then a bot could not visit them if it was just grinding or farming.

i dont know... those 2 you listed are essentially what fps has been based off of for the past decade in one way or another. to master the "essentials" means to master everything under their wings. what im saying is there are certain practices that will work on all fps games... doesnt mean the dude describing them has to have played them all.

If you want realism modeling, join the Army. I play games for fun. Too many are leaning towards "realism" which defeats the purpose of sitting down and enjoying games to begin with.

not so much. you dont respawn in the army. realism has enough right to exist as much as non-realistic "fun" games. Best games end up being a good balance of both anyways, with exceptions.

Windows 2000 owns so many of your faces. Other than Server 2003, is the most correct OS Microsoft ever made and i was using it up until 2 days ago. Too many new games require XP to run nowadays... i had to convert to XP to feed the addiction. Otherwise, i would still be on 2k.

who's to say that other mmos dont have corrupt GMs? im sure they all do... but like Narf2029 said... these guys just got caught. I dont play the game and dont have an interest, never did... but i hate the fact that people keep shitting on this game and make othere MMOs seem like they are angelic and heavenly. im sure if there was some type of law that demanded a developer list reasons GM is fired and the actions leading to it... you would find that all MMOs have corrupt GMs... theres no way to prevent it. a developer can definitely react to it but its very hard to prevent someone with a single minded goal of giving away free shit and having the power to do it actually achieving their goal.

personally i would have greatly enjoyed a diablo world mmo. and if anyone thinks blizzard cant pull off 2 mmos please stop there, sony has been doing it for a while. if sony can at least do it, then blizzard can comfortably do it better. back to the starcraft talk, yes it does seem alot like the same damn game with a gfx overhaul and possibly more shit being calculated at once compared to the first.

if korean mmos are any indication of the korean gaming market (and they probably are there are a shitload of them) then koreans dont seem to care too much for quality, insted they seem to appreciate content (most korean mmos are just boring unoriginal grindfests). in other words, it seems what we consider mundane they enjoy, at least for gaming. so with that said blizzard wille easily release a hit there. as for here and europe... im sure they will make decent initial sales just based on the fact that they will pull in a lot of vet players (active or not) wanting to check it out, plus its blizzard so people generally trust them and buy blind.

and i didnt see Company of Heroes by Relic mentioned in this thread so ill mention it: superb strat game with 2 different sides/faction... each playing very differently than the other. so if thats what your into... this game is godly. plus the AI is pretty near perfect (except tanks... but thats being worked on) and each match is truly a memorable experience. quality fucking game (oh and the audio is excellent)

turns out it IS an expansion, as tales of heroes ( http://tales.tsncentral.com ) confirmed it as news to come. not sure why i assumed it was a sequel. good times, as it will be easier on my wallet while being tasty for my brain (always a good combo!).

also, tales of heroes mentioned more info (just a bit more) about dx10 and coh. in episode 24's audio discussion they briefly discussed the dx10 effect on the game during their visit to relic's open house the week prior to the show. so... its still in the works it seems but whether its expansion only or will turn current coh into dx10 is still a mystery.

oh and Rainier... yea, i wasn't ranting on your comment but wanted to post an opposing argument to it simply to show both sides of the possibilities.

EDIT:
Death to Sequels: 100 players max is not true. i commonly see 1500 or more during peak times. even at 4 am (PST) on a wed evening theres more than 100. obviously, its nothing near 100,000 blizzard has but you gotta keep in mind... blizzard has an insane reputation, especially for online gameplay with battle.net. relic's relic online still needs some work but just a few days ago they released a new server side patch that addressed a pretty serious issue regarding fairiness in automatic ranked game finding. while it may never reach 100k its still not as pitiful as you originally made it seem, hehe. so, relic is definitely constantly trying to improve the online environment and based on the quality of the game as well as their commitment to keep making it more balanced and improved ive got total faith in a positive future for this game, may take a while though.

its not milking the cow if the game is actually good. or the sequel at that. coh is a game of intense quality and relic deserves each and every dollar i payed for it. milking the cow would be to release an expansion with only some new visual content and a new unit or two (EA anyone?) but nothing really new for gameplay.

honestly, i was surprised that thers already a sequel being announced, much less the same war and theatre. a 20 dollar expansion with new maps and a good handful of new units would have been great but a whole new game... really unexpected. and yea, i was also thinking the next one or the exp would be the pacific front or just a new era in general (ww1 (not many people tack the difficulties of preventing a game with that setting simply turning into trench warfare like the real thing, i can understand though), vietnam (would fit the scale of the game and the heavy micro you arlready do on the front lines) or soemthing more modern)

i realize that, but it seems to me that most developers put that on the top of their list of "why this game is good" almost as if to trick you into thinking its totally non scripted.

not unless the "wu-tang" was origianlly barrowed by the rap guys. i dont know them so im not sure, anyone familiar with them can jump in and correct me. but if history serves me correctly... rap is not an original genre and nearly all of "alternate identities" adopted by the so called "rap stars" are riped countless ideas/entities. in other words... its probably got origins in the far east. hopefuly.

non linear huh?

what is that like various missions/quests but you dont have to do all of them in the same order? Or is it a few choices create different challenges later on?

"non-linear" still doesnt mean "non-scripted". it just means scripted stuff that is triggered by various choices. hopefully thats not what they were trying to falsly imply.
