10. Re: The Elder Scrolls Online DLC Plans Apr 28, 2016, 15:08 TorchMaster

I'm enjoying ESO. I am at max level/veteran rank 5 and just starting to get involved with the elite-level content. I didn't get the game until picking it up for $12 last summer (and I haven't spent another dime since).

Even coming into the game late, it still seems like the code is half-baked, with lots of missing systems and convenience tools lacking. This has slowly improved during my residence, so I can imagine that the early days were a slog that drove away a lot of players. The stock UserInterface is sparse to a frustrating extent and absolutely requires the use of player-made mods to manage the environment.

The questing is top-notch -- all quests are voice-acted and propel the overarching story. The visuals are excellent, however even when running at the highest graphical level, the draw distance isn't very far. The horizon is always obscured by a haze, so you don't get the bright, sweeping vistas found in Skyrim for example.

For me, the strongest aspect of the game is the character/skill progression. Classes aren't locked into a particular role and can gather diverse utility skills. The Battlemage archetype is viable, as is the Paladin/healing tank. Sure, the min-maxers will steer your Sorcerer class towards being a Breton spell caster, but you really are free to play your way and be effective.

It did take me a little while to get engaged with the game through the early levels, but it has now led me to leave behind Lord of the Rings Online and Guild Wars 2.

Yes, agreed, best early access game ever. A great success for early access as the developers roused player feedback and fostered a mod community.

I know that there is always pressure to sell the next big thing, but this developer, Squad, should keep working on Kerbal Space Program. Refine it, expand it, and improve the gameplay elements. I'd like to see this get more story-driven and add competitive elements.

KSP is already a singular construction and simulation title that is unforgettable for a large portion of its players. However, the developer has a rare opportunity to make this one of the all-time great games. Further improvements will solidify it's position in the gaming zeitgeist.

I understand that KSP is a complex game that won't ever appeal to everyone, but smoothing the difficulty curve would help more players enjoy this unique title. It's a rare occurrence to have developed an all-time great game -- I'm hoping Squad isn't too anxious to abandon it for the next big thing. So far Squad has been tremendous in supporting KSP, I just believe it would behoove them to stick with it a while more.

Can someone please post directions on how to ignore a user, or direct me to such a post? I'm logged in and see 'Manage Ignored Users' in the menu, but I don't have any users listed, nor is there a way to add from that screen. If I click on user name I see their details, but no way to ignore. Links at the bottom of posts don't seem to offer anything to me either. Help please.

News Comments > Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth Rising Tide Announced
15. Re: Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth Rising Tide Announced May 18, 2015, 19:44 TorchMaster

I had the impression from Firaxisís GDC talk that they were embarrassed by Beyond Earth and were going to make it right through a free update. I know, silly me. At least they arenít abandoning it as many feared, but this certainly isnít going to be a day-one purchase for me.

I found Amplitudeís Endless Space to have some of the same problems as Beyond Earth: the presentation is lifeless and the diplomacy entirely opaque. I liked its ship building ideas, although they seemed to be ripped directly from GalCiv2. For me, Endless Space was enjoyable for a couple games, but ultimately brought nothing whatsoever new to the genre.

I enjoyed both GalCiv 1&2, but I havenít had much interest in 3. I guess I need to hear that they evolved their formula, but the early reviews indicate they have not.

XCom: Enemy Unknown lets you park your sniper at one end of the map and pick off targets at the other end.

Yes, XCom: Enemy Unknown did an excellent job of balancing weapons, each had strengths and weaknesses, such that using a varied squad was the best strategy.

I felt that Shadowrun: Dragonfall also didn't get weapon balance right. Enemies usually popped in too close for a sniper to be effective. Also for this reason I found that the shotgun outperformed automatic guns, pistols, and magic, but I only played through this game one time.

General Discussion > NFL Week Six
7. Re: NFL Week Six Oct 9, 2014, 14:44 TorchMaster

It looks to me that the listings are sorted by the most recent week's score. For 7th place in the straight league, the 13 pointers are listed first and then the 12 pointers, and within those ties, they are broken by going back two weeks. So Blue tops Torch in 7th place because he had 8 two weeks ago and Torch had only 6. This rule looks to hold true for the other ties as well.

Strategy Fans, with the Paradox sale going on, if you could buy only one would it be Europa Universalis 4 or Crusader Kings 2?

I will take a bow for finishing last in Week 4 SPREAD after winning Week 3. Iím picking only three underdogs this week. The league must really hate Bill Belichick: making them meet a playoff team coming off a bye while they are on a short week. I think a lot of the Ďparityí we see in the NFL has to do with the unbalanced schedule.

Iíll take a bow for winning week three in SPREAD with a 12-4 mark. Iím picking the Potomac Basin Native Peoples tonight because I think their pass rush will disrupt Eli, but I don't have a lot of confidence -- who knows how Kirk Cousins is going to play. My Stone Cold Lead Pipe Lock is: Atlanta over Minnesota. For me the most interesting game of the week is Green Bay at Chicago Ė- it should tell a lot about those two teams.

What the fuck ever, have you seen some of the shit ESPN has covered in its time? Video games are not even near the bottom.

I see on the ESPN2 schedule that the International is the lead-in for the bi-annual Amish Rake Fighting Tournament.

27. Re: Ships Ahoy - Rocksmith 2014 Edition Oct 26, 2013, 17:03 TorchMaster

So that there isn't any confusion, you don't need an amp, effects, or tuner to play Rocksmith -- these are are built in. You can even free play within Rocksmith, selecting from among the variety of available amp and effect models to shape your sound. But yeah, to play outside Rocksmith, you would want an amp and tuner.

Line 6 does make good products for multi-effects and amp modeling. I can also highly recommend the new Fender Mustang line of amps. These days, even low cost amps are pretty good.
