To be fair, these are really helpful tips for the average game reviewer, who'll spend more time talking about what they ate for breakfast when Crysis was released and how that affected their memory of it than they will actually "reviewing" these games.
If a game is a numbered sequel I'd probably be pissed if it wasn't more of the same.

lets encrypt root going pop is a bit of a non story really. since the certs granted only last for 90 days our sites have been using a 2025 expiring r3 root cert for some time now. It has an inception date of sep 2020 so not a new root cert.
I cant see many sites not having had the new root cert on their letsencrypt sites.
So basically modders worked years to "remaster" the old games for free, for users that had already bought them years ago... just so R*/T2 could realize there's still interest in the old games, sic their lawyers on the modders, and put out a quick port to cash in on them again.

In any case, it's fucking rich how Google is defending making Chrome and all its other apps the default on Android, and making its online services three-quarters of nearly all search results, given how much they complained about MS doing far less.

Yeah.. I'd agree. I'm pretty sure SSDs are current gen, not next gen.
The way it's always seemed to work is the latest console generation on the market is "next gen" until the majority of newly released "AAA" games abandon the previous one (which supposedly is when all the fancy promised features / horsepower are actually properly utilized).
So considering how things are going... might be another two years, at least.
Oof, it's rough. As far as I can tell it's just a straight "it runs on latest Windows" job; no gamepad support and no updates (visual or otherwise).
I'm confused... streaming from one's Xbox to their PC has been available through their app for years... It's how I replayed Red Dead Redemption three years ago while waiting on RDR2...
Games being really old is a poor excuse for outright killing their online; there are people that, for one reason or another, center their lives around certain games, and there are people without financial resources that have "old game on 12 year old console" as their most valued possession.
Sony should have a service-wide solution to DDoSing in place, and they should have the capacity to have at least one guy go through old games with user submitted content once a week for any weird behaviour or bad shit.

I think I'll wait until this is on Gamepass; it being Arkane it's probably a veritable work of art with great gameplay, but these sort of hybrid-PvP type experiences never work out as planned in the real world and I can't be bothered having my immersive sandbox-y trial-and-error experience meddled with by someone exploiting the latest meta tactic to insta-ruin my game.

Which includes the US; we've all seen how some people start whining about "woke-ism" or "revisionism" whenever a game/movie/whatever delves into or even hints at certain topics about the country's past...

It's fun knowing that the exact timing, down to the day, of when to release what little nugget of info is carefully planned with charts plotting various "hype" stats. I can feel the weekly team meetings where the community/publishing rep shows how many people are tweeting about the game, joining some reddit or discord, watched this or that video...

That's ignoring how energy intensive and SLOW Bitcoin is for transactions. Hopefully people will learn from this, but of course, based on the past 5 years or so, it's safe to say they won't.
I don't think many people often trade bitcoin directly for "small" payments, more likely trade on a platform for another coin type and use that for transfers (trade can be immediate with a low fee, and other coins transfer fast with very low fees), and the other way around when receiving.
No idea how El Salvador will fare with this, but I'm going to hazard a guess that most people participating (and the country as a whole) will get screwed, while a tiny number make out with millions. (so, the usual...)

Most of these "upgrades" seems to be little more unlocking higher framerates and resolution, and adding in higher res textures (the majority of which most likely already existed during production, and most of the remainder could be scaled up in a few hours with AI).
Not sure why they'd do this; $10 isn't going to get them much money back, it's bad press, and an opportunity for MS to boast about the way they do things.
