Assuming my only interest is in WW2 and I'm looking for something that can feel realistic without needing to go through a 25-step checklist just to start the engine, should I go with this or the latest IL-2 (or something else entirely)?

I've been out of the "sim" game for over a decade; didn't have space for a flightstick on my desk anymore...

i really don't get far cry. here's this year's open world map, wow, and it sure has lots of icons on it, and it is full of humanoid enemies to shoot guns at. i can't wait to slowly claim all the outposts on the map and then get a downer ending where i choose between two bullshit alternatives that make any investment i was stupid enough to make in the world and narrative feel invalidated, just like all the other ones.

i guess you could level this charge at any game series but far cry is just so nakedly creatively bankrupt. the last one i managed to finish was far cry 2. i think i got three hours into far cry 3, refunded far cry 4 when i saw the asset re-use, and then stopped.

I'm sorry but this seems like getting mad that two soccer matches are "the same game". There's a point at which you should realize "this type of content isn't for me" and just accept that without making it a point to sound like you're offended that others do enjoy it.

Eh, I guess you're just not as into methodically stalking and planning out someone's demise as I am...

I think my first go at Sapienza was well over an hour, but I was playing the role of a sneaky killer and not just trying to "win".

Huh, kinda figured one of the asscreed games would be their record seller.

I'll get this sometime this year, I figure after the biggest-offender bugs and balancing issues have been ironed out and humble/gog/gamesplanet have a 25%+ sale. Enjoyed FC3 and 4 quite a bit, but oh god do I have enough open world games gathering dust in my library I should finish first...

Yeah but how many people actually do that? Most people will do it one way or the other consistently each time. And not being open world means that even if you do it both ways - guns blazing or sneaky bastard - at best you have one extra playthrough. Not very good value for the cost.

It's a bit like concern over whether "western RPG" (player defined character, branching paths, etc.) players care about jRPGs (defined protagonist, single-lane epic). Those that are into Hitman games crave this sort of non-linear mission structure and replayability, and I get the impression that accounts for a decent amount of people. Those that don't and just play through twice, or even just once, are still getting a good game out of it.

Good on them, being a publisher-less studio of a certain size sucks. As in it ramps down to a dozen people or less really quickly.

CJ_Parker wrote on Apr 4, 2018, 12:29:
So the whole point of the game is to replay the same level(s) over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over trying different paths and costumes ...

Welp. Yawn. More power to anyone who is *that* fucking bored but it's definitely not for everyone. Many people like to finish a level and move on instead of playing hamster in a wheel with a game.

Well the "whole point" is getting from A to B in completely different ways, not just physical routes. You can play guns blazing or Commandos-style patience or ballsy infiltration and anything in between, with all sorts of different routes and challenges and options.

Never mind that replaying is optional; even if you did each mission once and never attempted any other options and never went back to do any of the challenges or alternate target missions, it's still a full game experience that can proudly compete with other titles.

Yes!!!

While This may be a PR move, that quote is going to bite them in the ass in the future if they don't ease up on MT next time. I'm actually really surprised that they just came out and said it.

WB probably didn't catch that when they approved the post from the dev...

But yes, will be interesting to see if they remember that for Mordor 3 (I'm fairly sure it'll happen, pretty blatant sequel hooks in main quest and elf DLC endings).

I don't see how this is newsworthy. The game was released on September 27, 2017. They made MILLIONS from microtransactions in seven month. Now it's in the "bargain bin" for residuals from Steam sales and whatnot. When a game hits 6 months a lot of stuff happens (like retail cost dropping 50%). It's a common thing. No one reports that as news.

There's one more big (supposedly) DLC coming out next month, and they'll probably have a GOTY-edition (with a surprise 4th DLC packaged in I'd bet) before the end of the year. Getting the "no microtransactions (anymore)!" press release out early will help sell those easier.

They still ok keeping the couple of million they made of it though
I really doubt they made that much. Anyone playing the game past the first tutorial/intro area should've realized that recruiting captains is kind of one of the core gameplay elements and is a very frequent thing, and anyone making it to the last act of the game (the "grind", where you'd be supposedly wanting to pay for ease) should already be stupidly rich enough in normal currency (especially if you use Marauder items) and have accumulated a few thousand "gold" from story and daily quest stuff if they for some reason decided to pay for captains.

I loved the game, never put in a dime after purchase, and very quickly maxed out my "reserve" captain inventory (~200 epic and ~100 legendary) and have about 4k "gold" without actually trying.

Like Rhett said, seems more like PR than anything else. And probably saves them money by reducing staff needed to oversee real money stuff.

You guys it's a Far Cry game, if you're looking for a deep political meaning you're a fool, and if you're actually seeing one doubly so. It's just a hyper-dumb excuse for violence and action like most every action flick out there, and ultra-religious/redneck/"true patriots" as baddies is very extremely not a unique thing in popular media.

Stop trying so hard.

DAI was a huge game and maybe some of us do not even care about certain members of the old cast?

Yeah, already had this from BG to BG2, where characters I didn't even know existed or discarded immediately were Big Deals. Not only did I understand most of what they were on about, but these days it'd be a lot more work for something most players "won't get".

(plus yes, I never used Solas in my game)

That, and the latency. It feels like I'm back to early ADSL, with replays showing 2 second differences in action times vs what I experienced, and you can't compensate shots without a ping display.

Do XBox games also give you the same title on Windows? I could see that as being a selling point.

MS published / first party games do. From 3rd parties, no, not afaik (though I guess there may be some exceptions).

I can't imagine MS buying Valve; HL3 is dead, TF2 has been surpassed, Portal is fun but in same boat as HL. There's DOTA, I guess. Steam will just split into its own thing, no way would the people running that sell their control over the golden goose.

PUBG, honestly who cares. I like and play the game, but it's a mess, can't imagine MS owning it could make it any worse.

EA would be amusing just for the industry shakeup factor, but I don't see it happening.

Really liked DA:O just for existing, even if it wasn't "BG3".

DA2, I really liked the story, but as mentioned, the combat encounters were horrible on Hard or above difficulty; you had to charge with your caster/ranged because otherwise reinforcements would spawn on them, or they'd just be one-shot by a hidden rogue.

DA3 I got to the last 10% and disliked the area design so much and cared so little about the characters and what was going on I just forgot to keep playing one day. I'll get back to it eventually just for completion sake.

I dunno, am hopeful because I like western RPGs, but not hyped... Hopefully after the hatewave EA got over Battlefront and people tearing into ME:A's launch quality, it'll be decent.

I really liked Fable 2, and 3 was fun, though felt less and less like "what was promised". And, I dunno, I thought story and the comedy were fine.

As for the studio being known for racing games, that doesn't mean much. Plenty of studios are known for only one genre and then do perfectly well with a completely different one. Most important part really is that they have a good management/production structure and culture, rest is transferable knowledge and hiring.

No fucking shit, they've been pay to play since day one and were one of the last few non F2P-option MMOs until last year (though allowing F2P grey market for years prior).

Unless you meant pay to win, in which case no fucking shit, they've been vocally pro-alt use and extreme meta since they launched over fourteen years ago.
