Raven Shield was the downfall. It made the shooting parts "fun and exciting" and the pre-planning and organization mid-raid were relegated since you could just action through every encounter.

Everything after has just been riding off the IP's name to do whatever's popular for shoot-shoots at the moment and aggressively have nothing to do with the original R6 games (let alone the books they're based off).

Jesus Christ, "Games as a Service" simply means "we'll make money off this somehow after initial release". The "how" can be anything. The concept is ancient, just the term is relatively new, and is just something investors like to hear because it means "continuous cash flow", and some "gamers" like because it can mean "continuous content flow".

Until the monetization scheme is actually made public, the best assumption is that it'll just be similar to how Payday 2 is now.

idk, keep in mind the whole shebang is owned by MS now, so I'd look more towards how more recent MS games manage monetization (honestly, I don't know...) than Beths' past screwups.

It's going to be a trend that a lot recent and future Sony exclusives will get PC ports once they've confirmed another game for that IP. As for games that were one and done, unlikely.

And as far as I can recall the plan is to keep EA to Act 1 until release. I plan to replay it in a couple of months, should be interesting to see how it's all changed since the first month.

The player skill ceiling is really really low; outside of learning the maps, the mechanics take maybe two days to "master".

The main "pro" vs "noob" dissonance is with the premium items and ammo. The game is the poster child for pay to win in the west.

Trailer looks waaay too artificial, which makes sense given the target release date, but it is off-putting.

Concept does look interesting though, similar to sub sims and the like. PETA gonna have a fit, so that's a plus (and free marketing!)

I updated my system last month. After 9 years. And was playing games just fine on med-high settings (with a lot of stuff I wouldn't even notice) until then. I use a 12 year old wired 360 controller and an even older membrane keyboard.

Until I can alt tab to check my mail or the news during a downtime, listen to a podcast while I play, have voicecoms and multiplayer for free, and able to play games from "older generations" without issue, then PC still wins purely as a gaming machine. Nevermind that I can actually work and entertain other hobbies on this thing.

I hate how there are people that think you need to have the top range of the latest generation of every component in your machine, along with RGB LED lights and brand named ~GAMER-X-PRO~ peripherals just play games.

WD Legion's also has a pretty watered down version of this; if you injure someone or someone "they know", there's a chance later on they'll show up as an enemy or trigger a mission as revenge. And vice versa for helping or saving someone.

I'm not sure studios aren't trying to replicate it or make something similar because they fear the patent, or because it'd be a lot of effort to get right, and players might not even notice or care.

While I personally don't buy that, that's an interpretation I can't really argue either I guess. I don't have enough facts to dismiss it. The timeline seems like it is more likely they simply want as much distance from him given the accusations rather than a conspiracy to pin failure on him. I haven't seen anything from the modders that indicates they are blaming him for the condition of the mod. There isn't any money or fame to be had here and the condition of the mod was shit already apparently. (going by comments, I don't personally know) If the mod was already crappy kicking him out for any reason isn't going to change their rep with the mod community. That will only change if they re-release and it's a better mod. I can't dismiss your logic entirely, but it seems like a stretch. maybe more info will come out and he is just a misunderstood alien that crashed on the planet and we will both be wrong.

The guy they "kicked out", which is a very kind way of saying "publicly shamed, threw under a bus, painted a target on, and declared all evils his fault", had nothing to do with any of the content that the mod has been getting criticism over. He made the Pipboy UI elements and some armor models, and that's it. The mod team started getting heat over weird fetish content, and the slave mind-fuckery, and decided to close the gates and say they were gonna fix it all, while pinning all the blame for what they'd done on him, someone that hadn't had a hand in any of it, solely because they knew people would eat it up because of the weird fetish stuff he'd drawn completely unrelated to the mod.

Stuff that they'd known for years he'd made. This wasn't some secret revelation thing; the guy used the same artist name everywhere, and people had pointed it out before. They were happy to use the guy's UI and 3D art for their mod right up until they needed someone to blame for... a full questline involving underage slaves, suicide collars, and a whole bunch of foot fetish NPCs.

The guy's a scapegoat for a team of panicked cowards. I've seen a lot of mod teams remove content because of some member being "problematic" or the like, but never have I seen a team lie about something so blatantly or so very publicly throw someone under the bus and paint a massive target on them like this. I can't imagine anyone having any respect for the people left in the team.

And as a kicker, the so-called "pedophilic content" they're citing to throw the guy under the bus for... wasn't even porn. It was a parody to make fun of a fictional pedophile.

The mod managers for this are scumshits. The guy they're setting up for the fall for all the fetish and fucked up content in the mod only made some UI icons and 3D assets, had no part in quests or scripts or direction or any sort of "inappropriate lines and content".

Since he'd made some "contentious" content elsewhere (something they've known about for years), they're blaming it all on him while the people that are actually responsible for all the stuff people criticize in the mod stay hidden and shielded.

It was pretty fun, up until that damn ice island. I might look into DLC way down the road when it's priced lower.

Also, I had some kit that would spawn a bunch of stamina spheres any time I sprint-attacked an enemy, which seemed pretty broken to me...
