As someone from well before the Halo generation who now has to juggle university classes, a job and a girlfriend, I greatly appreciated RS:Vegas being a dumbed-down bastard version and I look forward to the sequel. That said, I understand your frustration.

Societies may be shallow - it certainly isn't a true SimCity game, but SC4 was anything but shallow. It left some things to be desired, but it improved on SC3 in most important ways. Not sure how anybody could be a fan of city-building games and not like SC4.

I really want a true SimCity 5, so of course this game is a dissapointment. However, I think from the press release the game sounds intriguing at least. Should have called it SimSocieties - BUT ideally this game will sell well, inceasing the chances for a true SimCity sequel.

You will see that Todd never said it's 3 billion. He says it's more than that.

It's not that rare for the copy protection to be removed after a couple of patches. Granted, it usually takes a bit longer than this. Maybe their reasoning is that it's most useful in the first rush after release, I dunno.

The unit graphics aren't great, but the scale is awesome, and so is the fact that the graphics engine handles that scale. Technology used to aid gameplay and all.

You can devote more processing power to things like pathfindin in SupCom using the console. Not sure how exactly, but it can be done. And in a totally different genre, you could adjust the traffic engine in SimCity 4 using mods. Of course, neither of these is an official thing.

One point: letting you do this in multiplayer would create an advantage for people with faster computers: their units would move smarter. I don't think that's a good thing.

You can save within missions and skirmishes. As far as I know, as of right now you can't save within multiplayer games, however, that functionality is promised for a patch.

Hold control while giving move orders to (sort of) move in formation. Also, hold RMB then click LMB to choose among a number of formations.

Yep, you're supposed to zoom. Personally I think it's wonderful. Much much faster than using the minimap - I haven't even got that open anymore.

Insert and delete rotate (or was it home/end?). Also, holding the space bar while moving the mouse lets you move the view arbitrarily, and I think I read you can lock it in place with some combination (tab?). Otherwise it'll snap back when you let go of shift.

Read the manual. There's a move in formation command. I think.

Where is all this anger coming from? Maybe there are lots of co-op games these days, but why wouldn't there be, it's a really nice way of playing a game. I don't see anybody complaining about too many competitive multiplayer games. And for what it's worth, while a number of games have had co-op, really meaningful co-op, as in not just twice as many enemies spawning, is still fairly rare, I think.

I recently saw the Stalker movie, incidently. It's really, really good. I'll check out Stalker (the game) just to see if they can capture at least some of the athmosphere.

Just to add on your boring rant: Travelling by train is fairly cool here in Germany. It's too expensive unless you can get a deal, which you usually can but is somewhat involved. But for the distances in our small country of 80 million, it's typically fairly fast and comfortable. And we don't have a particularly good system - the Swiss public transportation system is awesome.

Edit: Oh and, yeah, a LOT of people use trains here.

Gawd, I had to stop reading that interview, it's too exciting. They're doing dual monitor support, for crying out loud!

It might look goofy, but matches with good people on good servers were incredibly intense. I'm hoping for the same with TF2. So it was delayed (again)? What's the tentative release date, then?

It's fine for light gaming, WOW included. Hell, I could play WOW albeit on the lowest settings on my 12" subnotebook with Intel 845 integrated graphics. Also note that the 6 hours figure seems quite optimistic and at any rate shrinks down to 3.5 hours with wireless LAN enabled. (What a huge difference - there's no way the WLAN draws 50% of the total system power; it's more like 15%, tops.)
