... which is par for the course for EA's most recent brand-spinoff titles. SimCity Societies? Wing Commander Arena? The Sims Stories? Why stick to your core gamers? There's money to be made on dumbing them down for casual gamers.

See, it doesn't need a demo because the retarded public paid $10 for the creature creator. Which was really the whole of the game.

I don't see much real replay value here either. Once you've hit the space stage, dorked around with creating a few colonies and going all death star here and there, what's the point? Start over and create a new critter to run down almost the exact same path again? Based on what I've seen, a new creature with new traits will largely only matter in the pre-civilization era.

The creature creator was what this game was always going to be about, and it had its flash-in-the-pan moment. Spore won't even be worth pirating otherwise.

Thats hilarious man, that's the best joke ever. Never heard that one before, not since the first GH or anything. Wow. That's just awesome.

Yeah, they found too many bugs. On a one man independent game it's to be expected. Frankly it's amazing the game is as awesome as it is.

But final beta, wow. It's the end of an era.

They re-activated all the old veteran accounts for July. I got in and checked it out on good old Lowca, and at peak times, even WITH the old accounts active, there couldn't have been more than 100 people on the server at once, tops. When you go to Theed or Coronet and see maybe one other player? Man.

I honestly don't see how they could afford to continue with this. If they merged it down to three or four servers, sure, but even then it's not worth continuing development for.

Biggest MMO flop ever.

The DRM didn't kill it. Microtransactions won't kill it.

But the sales will be a lot sadder than the hype would suggest.

NFL 09 is gold? What took so long? You'd think it'd be a snap to update the roster and whip up new box art.

Does it come without SecuROM? Because that'd make it worth the money.

What I want out of NFS is Forza Motorsport 2. That or a return to the extreme detail of Motor City Online. I liked that. It just wasn't suited to online gaming at all.

I guess we can only hope that it was the good half of the team working on this new version, because they sure weren't on Pro Street's side.

Living dangerously as I like to do, I installed SP1 despite having hardware from three different vendors on the driver compatibility problem list. And yet it's working like a charm for me. Over on El Reg a news post about the same issue was populated with dozens of comments from other people with no problem.

I really think the news outlets are looking for a scandal here.

They must have run out of ideas for expansion packs. This time they'll have to leave out more content to drag it out longer.

Tech pundits always seem to have a hardon for proclaiming the death of Windows. There's been ONE Microsoft OS since XP, and it hasn't even gotten to the first service pack yet. Plus the article starts off complaining about the problem with third parties not providing adequate drivers.

Vista is far from perfect, but XP was pretty weak before it got any service packs too. Damn.

The government won't be involved anytime soon because despite appearances, EA isn't approaching a monopoly. There are vast hordes of developers and publishers out there: EA would have a damned long way to go before the word 'monopoly' would even begin to apply.

And for those complaining about the monopoly on NFL games and other sports franchises, as much as I prefer the 2K series, the government won't step in there either: the sports leagues get antitrust exemptions from the legislature, and have the right to sell off exclusive rights to their stuff. Though since some senators are on the NFL's case over Patriot-Spygate as it is, maybe some would be receptive to hearing about it. An email campaign to Arlen Specter would be a good start.

edit- despite my pointing out the bad news, I hate EA and want them to die too.

You know, supposedly someone leaked some info about a new Wing Commander game coming up, but it was largely brushed off as a rumor because there was pretty much no substance to it. And they did recently have some success with Wing Commander Arena on Live. Hm.

Don't panic, kids. The democrats have a spine and are standing up for your rights now, but it'll dissolve soon and you'll be back to your regularly scheduled scrutiny.
