It's good for killing time, if you're really that bored. But then...I have enough crap on my phone for that too, so I don't really play this game at all.

The proper flashpoint sequel is ArmA2.

That was what ArmA 1 was supposed to be Maybe the second go-around will work out better.

ArmA is a known quantity - it is a peerless military sim.

Huh? What does "known quantity" mean? As for peerless, it was definitely fun, but more arcade'ish to me. Especially for being the so-called "spiritual successor" to OpFlash '85, it didn't do much to remind of why I enjoyed OpFlash so much.

Maybe there's a shrinking gun and this is what the game looks like when you've been hit. Duh!

Should the special forces guys are replaced with bulky blond bodybuilders mad with 'roid rage and a penchant for cigars (reference being Duke here)?

I'm really looking forward to this but I hope it's less preachy and a tad less philosophical than the first game...though being the main character is a Big Daddy, it really could further with it...meh.

"Fireteam Mode brings cooperative gameplay to Combat Arms. Play with up to eight players in an intense multi-staged hostage rescue mission. Team up with your fellow soldiers to defeat the enemy army!"

Fireteam Mode, eh? Since when did standard infantry squad structures become so special? This is something I don't remember hearing about in any other military shooter, TBH. Infantry units designated as squads and teams, yes, but nothing inspired from the actual fireteam model.

Thanks to consoles alone, no gaming company is willing to take risks on games these days.

Huh? Then how do they stay in business? I'm sure you mean something along the lines "by putting out the same garbage most people have been buying", but even then it's still a risk to put out any game, because there's not necessarily the guarantee it'll sell well.

As for consoles, those have very little to do with the lack of innovation coming out, they're just another medium for people to play games. I know it's fashionable in the PC gaming arenas to blame consoles for all the woes in gaming, but it's not like innovation is flourishing in the PC industry either. Publishers have an idea on what sells and where to sell it, and creativity is suffering across the board right now.

Besides, the plan for Elite 4 was to release it on consoles, too.

Elite 4 is going to the way of DNF.

DNF was at least "in development" for a time. Elite 4 never got off the ground in any form other than a proposal for an MMO and then a single player game. At least Elite 4 didn't go into a really long extended cycle then get trashed because the developer was too stupid to actually attempt to finish it (3DR and DNF).

There's plenty of information on him out on the 'net so a carefully worded google search should likely yield a great many results on the history and precise methodology of his crimes.

Or what crimes were conveniently tied to him anywho. A History Channel special on Jack that aired a few years ago implied there were those in Scotland Yard who believed many murders of prostitutes and other, random women of the time were tied to Jack because he was the big-time murder of that era.

I guess playing so many games has given me "gamer vision" which lets me blast through them all.

Me too. There was an article I read (can't remember the article's title, author, or site, sorry) about feature creep; or that jolly developers simply add more crap for the sake of bloating out a game in lieu of actual content. One factor mentioned was simply making games more and more difficult. When the biggest challenge a gamer is faced with across many games is simply overcoming a difficult or numerous enemy, that gamer could "forget" how to do actual puzzles in other games.

Every review of any given game gives a rough estimate of game length and I *always* come in well under that time.

But do you actually complete the game? By that I mean do pretty much all that is available in the title? Reviews typically give 40 hours for most JRPG's I play, but I usually put in another 20 over that just collecting and doing everything parallel to the main quest.

Classes aren't loadouts. COD4 has loadouts. TF2 has classes.

Please. It's a different name for the same thing.

It would be cool to recreate Unreal in the Unreal 3 engine. Do not do anything to fancy. Just the better graphics, models, animation, and physics. And add a duck button.

Meh, it would need more than that to convince me to buy again. Otherwise, I couldn't see paying the probably $20+ price point for what would amount to a total conversion.

You were playing the game on a lower difficulty then.

Using VATS, there's not much reason you shouldn't come out of almost every battle with enemies equivalent to or less than the level of your player-character. Of course, there are exceptions. Deathclaws on "very hard" tended to piss me off...

Talk about a series that was revived and renewed. I played this last night and had a lot of fun. I remember the first Red Faction, while it had some good ideas, the whole game was just boring and the biggest feature - "fully destructible environments" was really pretty limited.

Other games have sense surpassed it, both technically and gameplay wise.

Thanks for answering my question without actually answering my question I was more or less looking for a list of games to play.

I never got into DI or DII and even I can't wait for this sucker to come out already...

That's rather strange, especially given you didn't care for the first two, the latest one will largely be a rehash of those.

However, their game .exes are protected differently from retail versions, which means the Oblivion Script Extender won't work for the D2D version of Oblivion, for example.

I bought the D2D version of Oblivion, too, but are you sure about the Extender? I know the executables are protected, but the rest of the game's files were never immune from me applying mods.

I think they have a browser-based download client, but it doesn't work in Firefox (last I checked) and that hasn't stopped me from getting my games.

It can be browser-based (via the browser's normal downloader) or an online app provided by D2d. And it does work in FF, it's always worked for me, but it's not to say other haven't had problems. I remember an early FF release (I want to say prior to 2.0, but I'm not sure) there were some pretty nasty memory leakage problems that killed the D2D downloader app. But the last year or so, never had a glitch with it.

Just curious, but what makes the actual difference?

When publishers or developers say that they are delaying a PC port for the sake of quality, it's often true. They just fail to mention that they completely ignored the PC version until the end of the project.

Though it veering a bit from your main point, the last couple of PC games I bought that were more also console releases were pretty stable. Yes, it sucks they're delayed, but I almost think the quality of PC games in general has actually gotten better in the last couple of years.

Then fanboi #2 comes along:

This somehow makes sense. It also relates to the reason all the developers were smiling in that Goodbye pic

Good stuff! And yes, it's pretty clear given the context that this guy isn't going for sarcasm

Guess the kid never caught the bit where George Broussard supposedly wrote referrences for LinkedIn for his former employees.

If the tyke is indeed 12, I give him credit for keeping up hope, but I have to ask - why does he have an interest in DNF? He was still a creampie after DN3d was released!

3drealms.com is gone.

Nope, it's still up and showing that stupid picture.

Yeah, you're better off. The reviews I read on it say it's average at best.
