Let this be a lesson to you all... if you're a whore for the limelight and pick a half assed cause to pursue, it will consume you. This guy got his 15 minutes and it ate him up. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Moral of the story... don't be a toxic ahole!

I loved the Jedi Knight series and I was hoping for something similar... just with a graphics upgrade. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing that here. The Wii and its duel mode might be cool... and it will probably look a lot like the older Jedi games... but this new version of a game that I played half a decade ago, is disappointing.

Love Steam or hate Steam, Valve is doing things right and I have the utmost respect for their inhouse catalogue. Sure they hock some garbage... but when it comes to their games I have zero complaints. I think ol' Todd over at id might be better served looking at how PC gaming can be done right and at a substantial profit rather than looking under every bed for the boogeyman that's taking a dollar out of his pocket.

Woe are we...

Sooner or later these companies are going to have to come to the realization that if there is a way to steal something... people will do it. If PC games went away tomorrow, console games would be the focus of the pirates. What then?

Unfortunately, creative properties are the things that are the easiest to steal in our society. Music, literature, art, software... they're all in the same boat. I can buy a cheap print of a million dollar Monet, were cameras invented to steal art? How many people before the "internets" copied albums onto cassettes for their girlfriend or whatever? The mediums change but the end result is the same. Software companies for better or for worse need to factor in piracy within the parameters of their business plan. All of the whining about who is to blame is pointless. This genie is out of the bottle and it can't be put back in. This debate is so 1998.

Yeah man, the support and added content for this game has really kept it entertaining. Considering you can buy the thing for like $19.99 that's pretty damn cool.

I think the vertical thing would be cool, but I don't know if the engine could support a map that was really tall, or that people would really appreciate it and enjoy it. I would... but would the masses?

Maybe terrain that slows down the faster classes would be nice... weeds or mudpits etc... I'm sick of getting my head caved in with a bat!

This is just another cheesy attempt at stopping thieves. Will it work? No. Does it infringe upon the privacy of those that install the game? Yes. Companies need to determine whether or not producing games is financially sound or not. What's the best curb when it comes to piracy? Probably multiplayer that depends on a key. The next best curb? A good game! People support companies that make quality games.

I think the PC gaming market would be a lot less hostile if the games made for our high end systems were worth a shit. As for consoles... they're no more immune than the PC market. If somebody wants to steal games... they're going to do it. This is just a reality of the business. Users understand this... why don't the "professionals"?

Looks like somebody is still watching BSG.

What, he's decided to now soil the great memories of Wing Commander and its various offspring? Hoofah.

I wonder what it's like to sit at your keyboard typing up these ridiculous announcements while referring to yourself in the third person.

Yeah this game will be a throwback to yesterday... I wonder if I'll have to run it from a dos prompt and make sure that himem.sys and emm386 are enabled. *snickers*

This is the same game he's sold 10 times over. Although it's nice to see he gave up on those crappy aliens of his and now has an excuse as to why the enemy has the same exact arsenal as you do.

This game could be great, I have to give credit for its sheer depth... but this is just another halfa$$ed effort.

And yet again, another game that promises something different but shows nothing in the way of development. This is the same game that he has been releasing OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. The interface and everything looks to me to be no different. I could care less about the graphics, I'm about good games and good play (hence why I bought a Wii instead of a PS3). If you have any of the predecessors in this lineup you ALREADY OWN THIS GAME.

Pffft.

Another version of what is essentially the same game being released, stirs flames all of its own but last I heard Lauderdale was not experiencing fires.

It's a shame that this guy still fails to see the value in doing something right. He might say this is all about him doing *his* game, *his* way... but honestly, isn't this more a sign of insanity than integrity when you're talking about a financial endeavor meant to ENTERTAIN?

Oh well... at least with the digital distribution no trees will have to die in the making of this game. Unfortunately, we also don't get to see people trying to sell their copies on Ebay for $.99

*snickers*

OK... first of all, I am happy that TF2 is back on the burner. I never had so much fun as I did back during the days of TF1. The only thing that might make me happier is if they brough back the grappling hook *snicker*.

Anyone that is bitching about the "look" of this, has obviously never played the original. These characters in the new shot obviously are a nod to the original. The spy looks hilarious... and the medic... holy cow that's priceless. I can remember running around with the bazooka sized syringe... and I can remember running from it. I think they've gone and done a great thing here. We have enough ultra-realistic games, that aren't FUN. TF was always FUN if not always super realistic.

Bravo so far Valve... if these characters are a hint at what's to come, I'm all in. You got the look down (modernizing it nicely)... but it's all about the feel baby... you get that right and I smell BLOCKBUSTER.

Peace

Definetly not something I wanted to hear... it's a real shame. Considering the current state of the Quake and Doom franchises however, they better make sure it's damn near perfect.

And how much influence can these major talents have on a game that is due in 45 days? Did they just neglect to announce this title until it was 45 days out... or is this just another in a long list of titles that cashes in on movie hype while offering no redeeming content?

Wolverine, Iceman and Nightcrawler? That's it?!

The reviewer seems to have captured the essence of Smart's game. There are intermittent updates to things but no enhancement of the game. It's like he looks at his checkbook, says "oh hell, I'm broke again" and then re-releases the same game he has made previously with a graphics update and small changes. There is nothing about UC:AWA that sets it apart from Universal Combat... nothing relevant to the gameplay anyway. If he'd release any of these games with a TRULY functional multiplayer and a FPS element that wasn't horrific, I would consider a follow-up purchase. As I see it, he's charging more for less with UC:AWA. Don't even get me started on the whorish nature of selling the keycards and manuals to the poor masses suckered for the third/fourth/fifth time.

You must have missed that lovely Bank of America robbery in Los Angeles a few years ago... where a couple of two-bit hoods stood up to police weapons for for a long time with what amounted to vests and homemade armor. Regardless, the game is supposed to be fun. Maybe you dig one shot one kill, and like to be whacked that way. I for one do not, and I imagine that I am not in the minority here. I like a bit of a fight, if you want reality get your ass on a plane to Iraq and have some fun. Why not take reality to... well... the level of reality?

You want original storylines and you come with the oldest/lamest, argument in the book? Aren't you ashamed? *snickers*

This game is what it is. It's a resource hog with a few nifty little cliches that keep it at least interesting. That's a lot more than I can say for a lot of titles released in the last two years. If you know that going in, you should enjoy this game... and that's the bottom line... do you enjoy playing it.

Wow! People gawk at the amazing forum community you've created?

Hitler had the trains running on time and Saddam made sure his sons had plenty of women to rape... so what's your point? What people gawk at is the loathing you have for your CUSTOMERS and the fact that there are a few people with $4 haircuts out there that will TAKE IT and ask for more.

Derek your game has potential... but you, sadly do not. You are just a vile creature, bitter and angry... but most of all, just plain sad. History is littered with pathetic souls like you. You are hardly unique or even interesting. You don't have the will to debate your critics or even to acknowledge criticism. You're weak. And that sums it all up in a nice tidy package.

Now that you are balding, I'm sure you'll be even more antagonistic. Life sucks if you're Derek Smart... but you brought this all on yourself.

I didn't buy UC:AWA, and I don't plan on buying it. I already bought Universal Combat. What you offer me now is that game brought from 1999 graphics levels to 2001... that's it. Multiplayer is still CRAP, so... NO THANK YOU. As for 100% stable... I highly doubt it.

Peace

Me too man... I had to look at the site... and then when I saw that picture of Riley Martin, POSING ala Derek Smart (without the "I just sucked a lemon" lips), I knew I had to post the link. I knew it would be a matter of days at the most before the latest in 30-40 patches hit Blues... and voila!

Peace out!

But in lighter news, I did a little research and found a site that might hold the answers to the lineage of one Supreme Commander we all know and love.

It seems that the Kevin tribe may be from Saturn! Could Derek Smart be anything but related to Riley Martin? See for yourself!

Personally, I think not.

"I don't know why he needs two separate patches. It's all the same game anyway."

ROFLMAO, now that is the truest statement in this thread.

It seems Derek has some big advancements planned for UCAWA... he posted a list of bug fixes in the works. The FUNNIEST THING IS... if you go back in time, you will notice they are the same BUG FIXES THAT HE PROMISED FOR UNIVERSAL COMBAT!

He is working on collision detection again? Wow, profound... and redundant, given he said that the last time he made this game.

He is working on putting models into his open cockpit vehicles (ATV's etc.), hmmmm... when did I hear that last? The funny part is listen to this excuse... "Visible character model support for units (e.g. CAV):This is purely a graphics issue because of the shader limitations of some cards. There is a workaround which requires extensive code revisions. Since there are only four (CAV, ACAV, UAVMK1, UAVMK2) out of 40 player controlled vehicular assets, I don't see this as a problem. Until this is satisfactorily addressed, you're just not going to see your 3D character model in these "open" vehicles." HE ACTUALLY BLAMED IT ON HARDWARE. Priceless.

He just figured out that he needs to diminish the number of USELESS BASES ON A PLANET so that in multiplayer you can actually do planetary ops. WOW! Why didn't any of we "players" figure that out!? Positional lag? Forever we heard, it worked fine and we were STUPID.

I just find it laughable that this game has the same issues as the last one... and the one before that... and then adds some MORE. I guess paying $10 more for a Derek Smart game means you get twice the bugs. You have to admit, he's catering to his audience... they love a good kick in the teeth from this guy. Derek Smart, the Gacy of games development. It's a shame he murdered his own concept.
