I sent an email regarding StarForce in X3 Reunion twice and they never replied to any one of them. They do not listen to customers concerns. Its financial suicide to ignore your customers.
I for one shall boycott EgoSoft's products along with Starforce.
I think what we need to get this into major press attention is for an exploit just like what happened with Sony's rootkit. Yes that is a call for hackers to exploit it, PLEASE DO! I have no moral problems with this kind of action, its playing them at their own game.
If any of these companies is listed on the stock markets, buy a single share and attend their shareholders meetings to raise the issue
StarForce is ineffective "client side" secuity which is by definition an OXYMORON. If they want to authenticate the product, have a web service that like Steam does to activate the product on first install and after that then get outta ma way so I can play. Do not force online authenticate every time we want to play singleplayer but with multiplayer sure (except on a LAN)
It makes sense, whoever bought into this "Client side" security StarForce has obviously no experience at all with proper security principles.
As for UbiSoft games with SF.
I have ChessMaster, FarCry and Lock-On and they dont have starforce.
Another stupid company is the designers of BattleField 2 and its Spec Forces mod.
They also believe Client side security is effective via their CD in the drive (for a multiplayer game which requires AUTHENTICATION to sign on! LOL) protection.
Why must the CD be in the drive when I have to authenticate via their online servers? I have already authenticated so get this CD outta ma way so i can play.
While I am on the topic of authentication for multiplayer games, how about a single signon service (and I dont mean GameSpy crapware) that I can use for all my games regardless of publisher?
