Not true, I can play HL2 WITHOUT an internet connection, it is only needed to AUTNENTICATE your intitial use.

If it is a MultiPlayer game you will be hosed anyway unless y ou run on a LAN or create a VPN for a virtual LAN.

Single player is NOT a problem with steam for offline use.

Box art Logo for copy protection Apr 12, 2006, 17:59

I want a Logo on the box art indicating what copy protection they use if any and what kind of authentication. not some DVD logo and "requires interenet subscription" small text on the back of the box. Place it next to the age rating. This is what the game industry needs for giving information to the consumer not the underhanded sneaked in way they do it today. They need to be held accountable and take responsibility for it.

This way we can make a purchase decison without having to look up forums and boycott sites, ofcourse they do not want to be public about their "anti consumer" technology inside.

They have gotten away with this too long. Can we not get the game self regulatory body to promote such logos?

This way we will not walk away with a bitter taste in our mouths with a bad purchase. we can walk away from it on the shelf.

Bad for sales? Then dont use that mechanism. Simple.

I think now is the time for such regulations. If they cannot volunteer the responsibility, force it.

Begs the question, why have client side CD checks when you have to authenticate with their online servers anyway, all it does is piss off customers.

Why can they not do what Steam does or just use Steam to deploy and authenticate.

Will Ubi place a logo indicating what protection they are using on the CD to help us make our purchasing decisions. If not, why not. Are they ASHAMED and EMBARASSED by such mechanisms? I think it is an honest and fair thing to give customers such information, anything less is underhanded tactics on their part.

A threat is only that if you do not carry it out. I already boycott StarForce products so it is not a "threat".

I unfortunately purchased EgoSoft's products (X2 and X3 - now removed from my rig and dumped in the bin) but shall not repeat that mistake a 3rd or 4th time. Theyre customer support SUCKS and they do not respond to queries or complaints of defective disks.

I voted already (with my wallet).

The only reason Ubi are not using StarForce is because of bad publicity. They have online authentication for games, why bundle in client side crapware.

Client side security == oxymoron and only a moron would depend upon it.

Acer Ferrari is one laptop that was designed for gaming along with others (Alienware that Dell bought into).

Do you really think I want a 600 watt hairdryer on my desk? Im highly mobile and cannot carry around a Toaster that sucks more juice than my fridge freezer and sounds like my vacume cleaner.

Laptops are more Mobile Workstations nowdays. Laptops != gaming machines is so 1990s

My 2.5" 7200 rpm drives outperform on powerusage and data transfer than my 3.5" monsters. They are so 5.25" these days

Time to move on from hugging your bricks.

Ahh I like my electric bill now, 40 watts vs 600 watts and the same performance as my other rig with the lower power consumption and mobility factor. I know what I choose.

Does this work with Acer Ferrari laptops? Why does ATI continuely screw end users on driver support for mobility chipsets, yes I know they have some support (unless you own an Acer), yes I have tried to mod them but all after 4.x fail to work on my Acer and yes I have tried Omega drivers but they break some games (Tribes2 is one example). What does acer have to say about this appart from the usual "Contact your OEM" bs, they havnt updated the Ferrari drivers since it was released.

The only real option I have is to now upgrade when new hardware is comming end of the year or 2007 then maybe I can use the released mobility driver support but oh wait they block Acer from them. DAMMIT ATI OPEN YOUR EYES.
