It would also open it up as a vector for various attacks. How are they going to handle the keys that are accelerator keys to the browser? So many bad things with gaming in a BROWSER.
I never get goughed because I never buy pre Christmas and wait for the sales and buy from places like play.com.
Only dolts get gouged by pre ordering etc..
As for being platform independant, all runtimes have to be ported to all architectures in order to run. Doesnt matter what runtime you choose. You have to choose (or build) one that runs on your target architectures. All they have done it sounds like is a custom runtime sitting in a browser container and I am not too excited or eager for this.
I have given up hope on a good Tribes followup just as I have given up on the Amiga revival and the Commodore brand.
I moved on to other game genre's such as Portal. I see more entertainment in that once they develop that lab rat genre further.
I am also waiting on Spore next year, again I wont pay full price on that

I let the dolts pay up for that so I get it cheaper
What is their choice of graphics and audio rendering? OpenGL/AL, DirectX? I'm guessing OGL. I won't touch this if it is controlled via a browser session or container. Too risky and too erronous.
"find a way to bring that whole PC multiplayer gaming experience we miss back"
That means no consoles. Being in a browser also means no consoles. Also means no Mac, given that more and more people are switching to Macs (myself included), they have limited their market already.
