Those screenshots are about as colorful as you can get, good if I were eating shrooms but look completely over the top otherwise.

It's been many years since TA, my juices are flowing for some of that SupCom action. GPG doesn't have Microsoft or EA money, but they have some damn good RTS game designers. Glad to see it's staying to the roots of what made TA great, not trying to be a hotkey fest and land grab like most RTS's these days.

Awesome Spume:
EDIT: oh, MY POINT - is it worth my while trying X2 or do I skip ahead to X3? Never even looked at X - I love Bruce Campbell but that was an annoying demo.

X2 is still a good game but X3 builds on it and improves it depending on your idea of improve. It basically has all of X2 plus some, so it's an expansion and 1/2 of a new game. Should've been X 21/2.

The reason they do preloading is they don't have the bandwith for everybody to download at once, granted the map will be semi-small but still everyone will want to download it as soon as it's available and then you'd be getting a 4kb/s download. They will probably preload because they can.

"Freelancer clone..."

By the way DDI, Freelancer was dfinitely a clone of X - Beyond The Frontier.
X was around back in the Voodoo days as a flyby benchmark people used.
Freelancer is a dumbed down arcadie version without the depth of the X-universe. Freelancer was good with a mouse though.

"What's so special about this game??"

There's no space sim like it. You have to like the idea of flying through space, exploring, fighting, etc. If you like science fiction and space flight well this game has 50+ hours of kickass value. It's about immersion but you'll want a joystick to really enjoy it and a nice PS 2.0 capable vid card.

Tell the Khaak I am coming for them!

The graphics are best viewed when zoomed out. If you zoom in then you can see issues. But who plays zoomed in. The spec reqt's are 1Ghz CPU, 256 mb RAM, ATI 7000, so maybe too many people are comparing the graphics to UT2007. Their is a heck of alot content in this demo. I'm playing through now as a combat mage. P.S. SupCom is coming!!!

Great demo, very polished, almost a full game in itself.
Plenty of replayibility, different characters, different parties, pets, items, etc.
Very Impressed, considering I wasn't a huge fan of DS1!

If you have broadband, it's worth starting a download and letting it run in the background a while.

I'm glad GPG released it so big, I wanted the full PCGamer demo but didn't want to buy the September DVD mag to get it. Instead of waiting weeks for the demo, I just had to wait a couple hours.

"I'm confused by some peoples comments on this game. I thought it was an RTS as well. So why is it being compared to Icewind Dale and Dungeon Siege???"

People want to bash Dungeon Siege 2, they had a fit here yesterday. Ooooh 1.4 gig. I actually am one of the people that prompted GPG to release it in it's current state rather than trimming it down. The logic was, we can wait for the demo to be trimmed down but we would rather wait the couple hours to do the download. This way I get the same demo from PCGamer mag and don't have to buy it for a demo. Like walking away from your computer while it's downloading is such a big deal, I don't get it. For 56k'rs The September PCgamer will have a DVD in it.

By the way the DungeonSiege2 demo is very polished and has hours of great gameplay in it. It's almost a game in itself. Multiple different parties can be setup and different pets eventually can be played with.
