He is talking about the other screenshot with the red ships with spider like legs, they are the Cybran race which have spider like look to them.

The screenshot links work for me, but I have seen them not work for others direct linking to the site in the past for some reason???

"Are those battleships walking?? Interesting stuff there.. "

Hehe, they have all kinds of crazy units and tech going on in this game, each race has a bit of different stuff.
These Cybran battleships that walk onto land were rumored back in the initial Gamespy articles. There's also a cool unit called the Atlantis which is a super sized submarine that will launch fighter craft off shores, but that's one of the experimental super units.

Cliffski,
I understand, the UI is under wraps for reasons of competition plus it is consistently being refined the game still has almost a year left in development. TA was pretty revolutionary in it's command and control 10 years ago, I would expect SupCom to do that as well.

Edit:
Those other pics are of the same area.
The game features a revolutionary zoom that smoothly zooms from on top of a unit out to those icons and even farther than that, that's only a small portion of a huge map. The maps are huge! It uses some really cool new zoom & LOD algorithms, no more cieling to hit your head on wishing you could zoom out more.

Hehe, I sent a couple mails on this several days ago, but I must be on the spam list

GUI?
You want a GUI taking up a third of your screen real estate, is that what you are missing?

From recent bits and pieces of info, the strategic overlay UI will be toggled with the shift key.

They plan on revealing alot more info at E3, and yes they are selling a kick ass RTS game.

Oh, and if you want to see these screenshots in their low compression high resolution glory, they will be found at http://www.supremecommanderhq.com (Blue must've missed that email too.)
The IGN shots are compressed.

As to the above post...
Can anybody confirm whether the court case has starforce in it?

This might be the grand daddy of long topics yet.

I just hope that the court doesn't dismiss this to easily or set some precedent in Starforce' favor.
I think the courts have starforce in them, that's why the justice system is screwed.

StarCraft for next gen console, since Blizzard is shifting to MMO's and consoles (that's where the money is).

Oh yeah, they will make a PC port, as an afterthought.

The launch to a product that will not succeed, until it's integrated by chipset or GPU MFR's.

I think the indian casinos and other indian lobbying groups should give money and support microsoft.

MS is empowering natives, where in GUN we just shoot them.

One day i will definitely pick this title up. I heard way too much about the first one even though it wasn't in the US.
Also heard alot about the second one too.
Sounds like good ole fashioned gaming goodness.

That is a nice IGN Preview of SupCom.
Those screen shots are looking very tasty.
Some of the hills and terrain will really be nice for strategy.
I like the great view distance too.

Klingon Academy, that is a blast from the past. That game was probably my fav ST title of all time. It put you in the command chair of the ship, it was far more open ended and had missions that allowed out of the box thinking like to warp to a sun to evade shilps, etc. Actually had high quality star trek video cut scenes with real actors from the series, true to the Klingon universe. I'm making a DVD and loading it back on my hardrive to take it for another run.

I hope somebody makes a game this fresh again with current next gen graphics, that would be cool.

I've never yet managed to capture that planet that you do land battle on, you're just grossly ournumbered.

I found it tough too. What I did was take advantage because it was a demo. You knew they weren't going to attack your first planet so build all money generation there and start accumulating lots of coin. Then I made as much ground troops as I could bring with me. Bring extra rocket guys. Defend the first point and send a unit or 2 to rescue the humans north east and you get extra units to take over the other points. It's easy after that as long as you brought a buttload of reinforcements.

If you bring chewy and Han to the planet it's not tough at all. I had chewy take control of the AT-AT then handed them there ass with no problem. There's just some depth to the game with heros as well. Use the defensive loacation near the drop point for much higher defense. Throw the planetary forces at the enemies and use them to capture your points. You can seel all your ships prior to attacking the planet which will give you tonsd of reinforcements. There are many ways to easily win.

This move isn't about any real issues. It's about lobbyist groups getting power and exercising it. Give em an inch they will take a mile.

Putting a gun or knife to anybody's head is either deplorable to all colors and races, or it's game. Decide which side your on, there are only two. Is it wrong to kill in games all together regardless of race, or is it "just a game" and we kill people regardless of their race in games, we kill 'em all ???

Personally, if I am going to shoot people in games, I don't want some race thinking they are better than the rest and that I can't shoot them in the game. I want to shoot indescriminantly, just so happens this is cowboys and indians, not many races to choose from.

So now kids can't play cowboys and indians. They can't play cops and robbers.
I guess the only thing left is for them to use their imagination to get into real trouble.

The developer had to see this coming, if they didn't they are shmucks. One keyword will help them - history - it's a historical representation (just like a movie) not advocating violence against indians.

That is pretty funny that now it's only OK to shoot whites, not another race. I think that is funny as hell.

@Beamer
"But TA had that damn Fog of War problem - when you'd send your jets over an enemy town and get blown out of the sky, but what you saw didn't remain on the map (unlike every other game) so you'd never remember where the hell that encampment was in order to launch a full strike."

Gamespy previews:
"Map information and enemy buildings scouts reveal will continue to be displayed in shades of grey long after the plane has been shot down; you can mouse over these areas to see how old the information is."

Expect the best ideas to be incorporated and new ones.

@Creston
The graphics don't seem to be trying to out do AOEIII or Earth2160. It's fully 3D terrain and units, with tons of units, some huge units several screens wide :), an 'average' sized map in SupCom is 2- 8 times larger than the 'largest' maps in other RTS's. There is some cost involved there. With fewer untis and smaller maps, sure you could make it prettier, they are still saving the best for last - E3.
The game is still a long way off, holiday season (almost a year).

I'm getting 13 KB/sec, up to 24MB now. Should be done by tomorrow.
But probably the connection and download will be lost by then.

Rainbow six and 3dmark06 are stealing mirror bandwidth, there's no fast mirrors left.

I wonder if it's leaked.
Seems like a strange way for Egosoft to releases things, nobody on their forums mentions anything, no where on their web page. Yet, people have been asking for months for it there. It's either leaked or a strange way to treat fans.

It's a nice demo though, showing off X3 goodness.

Those pictures are freakin incredible, I hope they are really in-engine shots.

Flight Sim X will be added to my library.

I'm glad they are forcing simmers to update their hardware, which simmers seem to normally like to run sims on P2 266's ;).

Graphics rendering was very dated in 2004 version but finally next gen goodness.
