64 bit is just a hair slower, atleast on Vista 32 vs 64. Some overhead.

As mentioned it's about memory usage and being able to disable streaming for less loading off the drive.

Oh and it will ship with 64 bit, confirmed by Crytek. On 64 bit Os's you'll get an additional bin64 folder about 40-50 MB uncompressed on the HD.

If they can't get a demo out on the right day I wouldn't expect anything solid as to dates from EA at all.

I have hated blockbuster for years.

But I need Blockbuster to insure my netflix service stays good and cheap and doesn't become a monopoly.

And Blockbusters choice to just support BluRay is an idiotic one. As a HDDVD owner, they cut me out as a prospective customer. Seems like a great strategy to help BLU RAY defeat HDDVD, but horrible strategy for someone in the business of renting me a movie. With decisions like that and exhorbitant late fees, it is no wonder they are bleeding.

With all these 64 bit vs 32 bit comparisons w/ Crysis. Besides, the fact 64 bit isn't about performance, I'm wondering if all these sites are running the 32 bit binary on the vista 64 box with the wow64 emulator. Not a huge deal but if you are going to do proper comparisons, you shouldn't run it on a the emulator but a genuine 32 bit OS for comparisons sake.

I'm waiting for the game. It's not often a game comes along like this, I'm not going to ruin it. That's why i won't even mess with the editor until full version arrives and i have played through the experience.

I have spreadsheets bigger than this game. That would be fine if the game wasn't trying to be 3D.

Either there was lack of talent on the project team or management screwed this up.

I know, they lost all the development funds up front for the rights to the name and had nothing left over to actually make a game. That must be it.

Actually I wouldn't be doing the cvar tweaks. A guy in the beta started a thread on that and never cleaned it up when people found better ways. changing the cvar groups hose your in-game menu settings from working the way they should afterwards. Crazy how this stuff leaks out.

Anyway, a person can just make an autoexec.cfg, put it in the main game folder, and add the necessary DX10 settings.

There are now FPS's out there who are far less generic and offer the same graphical eye-candy then Crysis. What's the deal here?

Well the deal is your simply mistaken. Now if you have an older computer the geometry and amount of raw power a level demands won't look all that outstanding comparatively but...
With a proper machine, it's probably unparalleled, I'll know for sure when I play through it.

You can't compare some effects in some corridor with what this does in a full outdoor environment, the raw power required is pretty intense. Oblivion was great in it's time, this takes things to another level.

The fact is the quality is so high that it would be very easy for one to notice any minimalistic art design in a level, it would stick out like a sore thumb. But the fact is every aspect of a level is so well done, with so much attention to detail, that it all compliments the other without any glaring shortcomings. I'm sure there are experts in finding shortcomings that will find many, they feed on it, but objectively it's pretty impressive. All of that rendering comes at a price but medium settings looks really good too.

hehe, I just started watching the firefly series on DVD last night. 3 episodes in, It's pretty good, I'm looking forward to watching the rest. Not suprised it didn't last long on air, people like me that enjoy sci-fi never heard of it. Maybe some more press could have helped it. Any decent Sci-fi is hard to come by anymore.

You better run...you little %$#$#

For 19.95 you too can have a game that completely dishonors the series it has rights to.

"I want the people who have played The Sims to be able to play Spore - I don't want it to be some thing just hardcore gamers play."

Translates to - This was always planned to be "Sims Universe".

Hey Will, news flash, anyone with any type of common sense, knew that about the game already. But glad you are letting out of the bag, as some are clueless this was aimed at Sims gamers.

This game won't interest me in the slightest.

"will be available for Windows PC at retail outlets nationwide as well as top online gaming portals for $19.99"

Not withholding any quality at that price point I'm sure.

How do you buy such a great license and not give it the proper development. 2001 called and wanted it's graphics back.

It was ripe for an amazing game and story, but it was probably ripe for disaster before development even began.

I'll look for reviews, but I don't think there is any suprises in store for me.

I don't have sims but I want to buy it just so I can complain and fight against Securom.

Death to Securom, I will buy every securom game so I can complain, I will cross every sea, climb every mountain, I will show them bastards!

After it is gone, I will undertake a new mission to stamp out every copy protection mechanism!

Normal spin follow-up to prognosticators of doom sounding the death knoll.

We all know what is going to happen, if they can't see the writing on the wall, it's not my problem.

The company owners made a shitload of cash, and are off to the tropics, well atleast buying a house there. The poor devs should polish up those resumes and get out while the going is still good, before EA leaches the life out of them.

That nvidia interview was pretty good.

I am suprised Nvidia themselves have put 5000 man hours into Crysis development, had two programmers there full time for 18 months, tested the game themselves under hundreds of PC configurations.
I was actually suprised to see the way they get involved.

This was also a pretty interesting statement that peaked my attention:

It has been announced that Crysis will be released November 16. Is it at all likely that we may see the G90 series go retail before the games release date?

Um, we can’t comment on unannounced products. Hypothetically, if we had a new killer DX 10 card for mainstream gamers, it sure would be nice to see it by the game’s release!

As people have speculated that sounds like a killer card/Crysis combo to me. But it does mention mainstream unfortunately as people have also speculated, no reason to dethrone themselves I guess.

"WTF? A 6800GT is like twice as fast as a 9800 Pro.

Either Crytek heavily optimized for ATi or they meant a 6600 GT."

That is the same thing that leaked out recently and we thought it was bullshit.
It seems they are heavily ATI dependent. The game is probably the most shader heavy yet, and somehow they 6800 GT can't out do 9800 ????
