I mean, Crytek is stepping backwards with CryEngine 3.

Why is that a bad thing? I mean, how many computers can adequately play Crysis right now at full settings?

The point I'm trying to make is that because of consoles, developers are forced to push the limits of hardware, whereas before they would just rely on hardware companies to release new stuff that consumers would be forced to buy.

Look at Call of Duty, for example. The game plays wonderfully on PC and it looks phenomenal. Developers were forced to work with the hardware available and make the best looking game they could. I think that's GOOD for PC gaming because one of the always brought-up negatives about it is that you always have to keep upgrading your stuff. Now all you have to do is just get hardware that tops the current generation of console hardware and you'll be set for quite a while.

This could be instanced just like WoW's dungeons. For example, you do a lot of it uninstanced, and only finish it up in an instance. It would be totally feasible.

Consoles are holding back gaming? I don't think that's necessarily true. While I do see that it's holding back certain types of games from advancing, I appreciate that developers ate now more constrained in designing for the static hardware of the consoles instead of saying "Screw em, they'll just have to buy new video cards." I like that I don't have to upgrade nearly as often anymore, and game graphics are still looking better and better with every release because the developers are being forced to maximize the potential of the hardware they can work with.

I'm pretty sure that Left 4 Dead 2 will be in whatever the next iteration of the Orange Box will be, along with probably Portal 2.

No offense man, it's not like they're showing 9/11 happen over and over again. It's like saying people shouldn't make World War II games because of all the people that died.

If you don't like it for whatever reason, that's your perogative. No one is making you buy or play it. Don't play it - no one will fault you for it.

How is PVP in City of Heroes?

Sadly, practically non-existant. It has the potential, and the few PvP fights I've gotten into (literally chasing a villain around a PvP zone, dodging in between buildings, firing when I got a shot, etc) have been fun, but there are some major balance issues.

A little late huh? CO is going to slaughter all of the MMOs of this genre.

From what I hear from beta testers, CO is nothing to write home about and the interface is a step backwards. It also didn't bode well that Marvel/Microsoft dropped out of it due to "quality" reasons...

Modern Warfare's only major problem was small multiplayer maps (seriously can I have one space where my ACOG matters?) Here's hoping this fixes it.

Agreed wholeheartedly. I actually read somewhere that they designed the maps to AVOID having long distance shoot-outs, I guess to encourage action. I feel that might have worked well for the console crowd but was a mistake for the PC players, and I love the more open and bigger maps in World at War. I hope IW takes a play out of that book for MW2.

Say what you will about CoD being on rails, but they made it FUN. It doesn't claim to be Crysis or Far Cry that has open gameplay (when in reality it's still on rails, but the rail is just much bigger), it just claims to be fun, which it is. The AC-130 mission was one of the funnest gaming experiences I've had in a while.

And I guess to each their own about graphics... but I think Call of Duty's is top notch.

The graphics look dated? CoD4 still has some of the best graphics around when maxed out, surpassed only by Crysis (but playable at MUCH better framerates).

Blue got the part of subscribers wrong it looks like. Here's the info right from the announcement:

We started out the year with around 244,000 subscribers and in five short months we've had a 22% growth in subscribers. In the past couple days we surpassed the impressive milestone of 300,000 active subscribers.

Unreal, Quake, Crysis, and Tribes

No one really plays the multiplayer portions? Unreal, Quake, and Tribes were INSANELY popular in their hayday. Crisis isn't total sci-fi I would say, and it is limited by the outlandish game requirements.

Do a sci-fi game right, and people will eat it up. If CoD can pull off a "realistic" science-fiction setting I think it would top the charts. I know I'm craving for a new sci-fi shooter. What's out there now? Mass Effect is good, but there's no multiplayer and it's more of an RPG than a shooter (although the shooter portions are very good). There's Halo, but I don't play consoles and it's too simplistic for me. I was almost tempted to look into Planetside but I heard that is also pretty much abandoned.

Does anyone have any recommendations for current decent sci-fi shooters (good multiplayer a plus)?

However isn't their a teaser out their for the next COD being like Modern Warfare? Maybe this is the one AFTER the next one?

Well technically, that teaser was announced as "Modern Warfare 2" so they might be splitting the brands, although it could be Call of Duty 6. And Call of Duty: World At War wasn't ever officially said to be Call of Duty 5. So, no one really knows what the numbering system is at right now...

Whatever happened to the sci-fi futuristic CoD? I'd like to see that get the Infinity Ward treatment and give Halo a run for its money.

I resubbed a few days ago and although the game has changed, it hasn't changed enough for me. Graphical bugs are still there (textures pop in and out) and you will get ganked the second you leave the town. Classes are still rather unbalanced (melee is far weaker than ranged) and some of "elite" mobs require you to group because they're so hard to kill, yet finding a group isn't the easiest because a lot of zones are empty. I'm still disappointed with it and probably cancelling again soon.
