The Supreme Commander storyline wasn't that great. Sure it had the immense maps and zoom and all that, but when you boiled down to it, all the units seemed the same with different models. I loved the original C&C and C&C3 is a rightful successor to that. The multiplayer sucks on that though, but I hate RTS multiplayer simply because I hate rushing, and that's all what it boils down to.

Haven't played World in Conflict besides the demo, but I must admit it was pretty fun. Might pick it up sooner or later.

It really did look like CoX with cel-shading. Was disappointed to see more of the same environments, although the few outdoor ones they showed look nice.

Obviously the gameplay has to be good. Nothing will ever do well if it's a piece of shit.

However, the name recognition got a lot of people TO that game that wouldn't have otherwise bothered. A lot of people were just waiting to explore the Warcraft universe, and this game gave them that shot. I bet a lot of people would have been willing to do the same with Marvel. How many are chomping at the bit to explore the wide-world of Champions?

If the gameplay sucks, it's obvious that the game will die no matter what name is tagged onto it. But even if the gameplay is halfway decent, it is enough to stick the people that are coming to that game solely for the name recognition. ESPECIALLY now in a post-WoW genre where everything is compared to WoW.

You mean because you don't recognize the names of the heroes in the video...it's "generic". Almost like they're designing their own unique superheroes. Man I hate it when a company doesn't just shit out the same brand name crap every single game. I much prefer to see familiar and comfortable things in my games. Bring on Unreal 2050!....Call of Duty 23!

How the hell did any of those comics get started in the first place? I mean the what did the first issue of superman copy? It must have been something...right? Otherwise he'd just be a generic superhero.

Give me a break. The gaming market is flooded with MMOs and a major breakthrough like WoW is unlikely. The only way to make a real successful MMO is base it around something that people know and can relate to. Everyone has seen the X-Men and Spiderman movies and I bet many would sign up given the chance to see their favorite superhero online and "interact" with him or her.

How do you think WoW became so successful right off the bat? It had 3 games and multiple years of name recognition behind it. Most gamers and even a few non-gamers knew what Warcraft was right from the name. The same thing would have happened if it were still Marvel.

Having the Marvel name was this game's best chance of being successful. Losing that will cause this game to fail. Mark my words.

It looks very generic. They really took a big hit when they couldn't keep the Marvel license.

Another case of a PC developer blaming their lack of sales for their shitty game on PC users.

First CliffyB, now Molyneux.

We're not consolers, devs - we look for a little depth to our game rather than just shiny objects. Make a better game and it will be bought.

I hope Epic learns a lesson.

Didn't you read what CliffyB said a few weeks ago? The lesson that they learned was that PC users are too busy playing WoW and solitaire to play hardcore games, so that's why UT3 failed. Could it have been that it was a consolized piece of shit with Warfare maps SMALLER than the Onslaught ones in UT04?

Nope, couldn't have been. Must've been the PC users!

Cain's Lair was one of the biggest UT2004 gaming servers/communities out there. We were all eagerly anticipating the release of UT3 and couldn't wait for some old-school UT2004 fraggin. Unfortunately, we didn't get that and Cain has already taken his UT3 server down which is totally understandable.

Go fuck yourselves, Epic. Whore yourself to the consoles all you want, just stop pretending to give a shit about PC games now at all.

For all you PC haters of the Ported ver can kiss my ass, the game did NOT feel like a port at all in fact it was one the best ports Ive seen for the PC. yes it had a few issues with crashing but that got fixed. the game plays great and playing it Coop was the best. it looked and played much better on the PC then that crap ass Console version. All I can say is that Cliffy B had best bring this one to the PC very shortly after its released n the crap ass console.

Did you even play the game? If so, how many times did it delete all of YOUR savegames? It did it twice to me. And you're telling me you never had one problem with Windows Live?

Yes its not that hard to get coop to work with PC for GOW.

Using hamachi is simplest and avoids most of the problems with MS Live.

Are you kidding? That's like saying "This car can start up and drive, but to put it in reverse you have to hotwire it under the hood."

Since MS Live is such an integral part of GoW it should have been working at launch or very shortly thereafter in a patch. The customer shouldn't be expected to be forced to use a go-around to connect.

This game better come out on PC eventually because I just played Gears of War coop with friend on PC and it was so much fun. I will never waste money on xbox to play the sequel but on PC HELL YEA.

You actually got it connected on PC? You are one of the lucky ones.

How about they fix their fucking PC port of the first one before they shaft PC users even further with a 360-exclusive sequel?

Epic really has gone downhill. With UT and UT2004 I loved them - they were giving out free stuff all the time, their user interface was wonderful (especially with the original UT) and their engine really couldn't be beat. Now they're just Microsoft's bitch after Gears of War, and have written off the PC users, who are the people that made them rich and gave them the resources, motivation, and sponsorship to make their Gears of War cashcow of a franchise.

I agree. However, I just finished reading the article in Game Informer, and it *sounds* like the action will be much more action oriented than CoH/V. We will see, but I am hopeful.

The ability to build your own arch nemesis from scratch is just brilliant!

The combat system isn't really what I was concerned about. CoH had a fantastic combat system in my opinion, with you almost always facing 3-6 enemies at once. This means you had to multitask between the enemies, figure out with one was the biggest threat, and concentrate on knocking them down so you could target the others. My most memorable experience in any MMO was playing CoH. Although the majority of PvP in that game is extremely unbalanced, if you get into a fair fight it was a blast. I was chasing down a villain and shooting energy beams at it, all the while flying through streets and over buildings. I eventually downed him and it was the most satisfying kill I've ever had.

The problem with CoX was the instanced missions. Essentially, every mission boiled down to killing bad guys. There were no delivery of messages or searching for some item - everything was combat related. And even more annoying was that the same layouts were used for said missions over and over again. Whether the mission was in a warehouse, office building, cave, enemy base, etc, you would see the same layouts over and over again. Eventually every mission came down to "Kill enemies. Click on glowing thing. Kill more enemies. Click on another glowing thing. Rinse and repeat."

Add to that that there was no true loot system (they kind of jerry-rigged that in there with the invention system) and you found you really weren't striving for much besides the next level.

It always made me mad that when new costume pieces came out (except for the invention ones), you had to BUY with real money to get them. For example, the Good vs. Evil edition had some spiffy new costume pieces, along with a jetpack and a teleporter device. In order to get those items, you had to either buy the Good vs. Evil edition or pay $10 to get the items. Why could I go on missions to EARN those pieces? Same thing goes with the Valentine's Day stuff.

What I did love about CoX was that it was very casual. There really isn't raiding and most missions can be finished in 30 minutes, if that. The zone-wide events like the Rikti invasion scale to your level, so ANY hero can take part. That part they really did get right. A lot of everything else though is just damn annoying.

"We thought carefully about which IP to select for our next game," said Jack Emmert, chief creative officer of Cryptic Studios. "I've been playing the Champions RPG since it first came out and I love both the rich history and wide array of compelling characters which made this an obvious choice for Cryptic Studios."

Translation:

"We thought very carefully about which IP to select for our next game," said Jack Emmert, chief creative officer of Cryptic Studios. "And since Marvel dumped our ass because we probably didn't change our mantra much from City of Heroes, and DC didn't return our phone calls, we landed on this universe that not many people have actually heard of because we really had nowhere else to go. But you can customize your characters! And your powers! And your arch-enemy! Just not the endless repeating office buildings, warehouses, and caves that we'll be forcing you to run through over and over and over again."

What's funnier is that I saw these two quotes in an interview regarding the now-defunct Marvel Universe Online:

I asked the Microsoft Game Studio's Pape why they would want to get into the massively multiplayer online market when it is currently so dominated by World of Warcraft.

Not only is Microsoft Games not worried about World of Warcraft, Pape said, the game's tremendous success is one of the motivations for getting into the market.

That pretty much contradicts the exact reason why MUO was cancelled. And then there's this gem:

"Our passion for Marvel comics is pretty well known, especially my own," [Jack Emmert] said. "We wanted to do this thing because of our love of Marvel comics. The main thing we can't stress enough is the breadth of the Marvel Universe. Their entire history is at our disposal."

Replace "Marvel" with "Champions" and you've got pretty much the same damn quote as listed above.

Source for those quotes here: http://kotaku.com/gaming/marvel-universe-online/feature-marvel-cryptic-and-mgs-talk-marvel-universe-online-204378.php

It's a shame... if marketed right and built correctly allowing a lot of customization of the UI and stuff like that, Marvel Online could have been a real competitor to WoW since it has good name recognition. I've never heard of Champions before this release... but viewing the info about it I am pretty excited. City of Heroes is good but limiting, I hope this will take some lessons learned from WoW and improve the superhero formula even further.

Who the hell do you think is responsible for not ponying up the dough to fund another patch? It's Microsoft, the publisher.

Are you seriously telling me that Epic doesn't have the money themselves to fund at least ONE patch to fix that horribly broken game?

Yes, Microsoft sucks in terms of games. But I would rather them buy Epic so at least people know what to expect, because right now Epic is Microsoft's little bitch yet everyone expects quality stuff out of them because of their past releases.

You have the campaign from the latest Unreal Tournament.

Which, by the way, took the "Tournament" out of "Unreal Tournament".

Maybe if Microsoft bought Epic, we can finally get some support for that piss-poor Gears of War PC port. Minor bugs are expected, but DELETING SAVE GAMES? And no patch for it months after the game was released?

After buying that and feeling cheated, and then buying UT3 and seeing the consolization that happened to that... go ahead Microsoft, buy Epic. I won't be buying another Epic product again either way.

It was boring and BLAND in beta. There was nothing original about it. You got over the FPS feel of it in five minutes, and the UI was horrible. The first world is nothing but dull brown and green, and the draw distance is pretty bad.

What were they expecting?
