From what I can tell making this game was a long-time dream of Steve's, and it's something that he worked on regularly and diligently over a period of many years to finally realize.

HE STOLE OTHER PEOPLE'S WORK AND PASSED IT OFF AS HIS OWN.

This is not a case of a few random textures splattered on some hidden wall that not many players will see - this man, and his crew, took entire fucking screenshots of games and put them into their own, and then passed it off like they did the work. And it wasn't just Oblivion, either - Diablo 2, Unreal Tournament, Black & White... the list just goes on and on.

No matter how big or small this game may be, NOT treating the game, developer, and publisher like the way we have been treating it just opens the door for other shops to do the same damn stuff. If this would never have been news, and people would have never had the outcry they did, no one would have done anything about it and chances are the game could have been still on the shelves (wherever that shelf might be).

Good riddance to this piece of trash. They deserve ever bad word they get.

Yes, the game has bugs and yes, some of the features aren't implemented, but the game is a blast and especially lower levels are quite fun. It can only get better with time.

My experiences thus far (so I don't know anything about 40+)...

What I like about the game:
- I like the combo system. It really adds a tad bit of skill to the game, and I love watching WoW (Whiners of Warcraft) cry about it and say it sucks.
- I love how it's not gear based. Yes the gear could play a LITTLE bit more role into the grand scheme of things, but I love gear doesn't automatically determine a winner of a fight before the battle actually begins.
- I love the atmosphere of the game. The graphics are beautiful and the day/night cycle is great, and around dusk and dawn your jaw will drop at how "real" it feels.
- I like the semi-realistic approach. I was getting tired of WoW's overdone armor and weapons, so it's nice to see armor, weapons, and characters toned down a bit.

What I think could be improved:
- There needs to be a few more zones. I love Conall's Valley and the Wild Lands, but I feel like there needs to be one more zone for 30-40 or above. This is NOT because I can't find quests - I can find plenty of them with no problem - but I just get tired of looking at the same stuff all the time. New zones would vary things up a bit.
- Needs to be MUCH MUCH MUCH more variation in weapon and armor models. There seems to be very few models that will drop, especially armor. I wish I could find the armor that was in the Gamespot PvP weekend, but I have yet to see that or anything that closely resembles it.
- I wish more quests had voice acting.
- A rather big amount of random bugs and annoyances need to be squashed and fixed.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new MMO that shows promise, especially for people that are looking to get away from WoW. Bear in mind that it is NOT finished and later levels apparently can use some work, but it is the best alternative right now and I can only see good things for it down the road.

Remember when doom 3 (I think it was?) and some other game had similar assets (last year I think) and after investigation it turned out to be just that they had purchased them from same third party. Initially I had supposed this was possible, but after reading the comments, I now think its very unlikely.

Did you even look at the pictures? They aren't similar, they're identical.

About 6 months or a year ago there was a building demolition in Vegas. I created a post that linked the building demolition in Vegas to 9/11. I told people to watch both videos and compare them, then decide if it was a plane or explosives that blew up the 9/11 buildings.

Anyone watching the Vegas building demolition would see the exact same thing in the 9/11 building collapses. Exact same thing.

That post was removed.

Whoa buddy, take off the tinfoil hat. Blue is not part of some vast right wing conspiracy and I doubt the first place those people would check would be the Blue's News forums.

I don't want to debate 9/11 here, but please see this site and judge yourself if your theory still holds water: http://www.debunk911myths.org/

AoC had one of the smoothest MMO launches I've ever experienced. Yes there are a few bugs and that sucks, but it suffers from nothing different than any other MMO at launch (lack of endgame, minor to medium bugs, etc). It has handled downtime better than any other MMO I've played, especially when it first launched.

Please don't compare AoC to Hellgate. You're giving Hellgate waaaaay too much credit.

World of Diablo would be horrible, simply because it is way too similar to genre to WoW. If they want to make it different, go with Starcraft.

The TotalSims website looked like it was something taken from 1997, although I must say that I was quite a big fan of WarBirds and Air Warrior in the past, but I don't know how well they've progressed with the times.

Yeah...that is kind of what makes me want to wait in all of this. The whole combat system seems built around making the user press buttons to execute special attacks in combat instead of the more traditional press one button to activate specials and auto attack. I'm not convinced that the system is going to be more fun.

So less interactivity is more fun? I don't see the logic. I hated it in WoW when I would go into a group and just hit one button over and over and over again. It was no fun whatsoever and most of the time I would watch a movie on my TV while doing it with no difficulties.

In this game, you can't do that. Your attention has to be focused on the combat or else you won't win. It is definitely more fun and it adds a bit of skill to PvP battles that WoW doesn't have.

The game is very entertaining, but I as well am finding it hard to adapt to the combat system. The best way I've found is to keep your fingers over the 1, 2, and 3 keys and use your mouse to select the combos. A little cumbersome at first but once you get the hang of it you'll be doing fine. The only problem is that I find myself looking down at the combo bar too often to see which thing I'm selecting. It'll just take some getting used to, but it is much more interactive than WoW or anything like that. It'll all about exploiting the enemy's weakness, and knowing when to do that combo when the enemy's defenses are down. The only thing I haven't really experimented with are my own defense system, which seems much more useful in PvE than it would be in PvP.

All in all, I'm having a blast with this game. The first part definitely is NOT MMO-like, but it fits really well. You spend a good mix between single-player and multi-player and it's pretty fun. I like being back to the FFA PvP type - it reminds me of UO. Only wish the Tortage part of the game was just a little shorter, I'd like to get on with it and move to the more MMO-type zones. Can't wait for town building and siege warfare. It's definitely holding my attention and I don't feel the need to go back to WoW or anything else. Graphics are top notch, and the voice acting isn't bad... although sometimes the writing gets a little over-the-top with the almost constant use of "bitch", "whore", "bastard", etc. But definitely enjoying it. Servers are down now.. can't wait to hop back in!

I'm one of those people. WoW had its chance for me, and now their lack of attention towards the World PvP gameplay has turned me towards Age of Conan, and so far I'm loving it. It is different than WoW but so far it's a LOT of fun. Also it's the smoothest launch of an MMO that I can remember.

The speed of the game and the quasi-tactical gameplay just doesn't mesh well. The game would be fantastic if it were slowed a bit, but apparently the speed is a big thing to Wolf-ET fans.

A lot of good ideas, but a lot of bad ones too. The fact that you always have to unlock new weapons annoys me - I can't carry over my unlocks the next time I play a game. They finally added VoIP which is nice, but it was far too little too late. In the last patch they radically altered the hitboxes which makes it much harder to kill someone. Prior to that, the hitboxes were big enough that the speed problem was offset by the fact that you could kill people relatively quickly. However when they lowered the hitboxes the speed becomes much more problematic and it just becomes a bunny hopping nightmare.

Vehicles still seem almost useless, like they were put in there as an afterthought. They are incredibly weak as anyone with a standard rifle can just take them down.

The game is too BIG for a campaign. It really is about the entire war, not just a battle here and there. You develop your own campaigns while playing, such as system-hopping to reclaim overrun systems to eliminating another race. In a game like this having a campaign will just limit your options.

User created missions? The missions in CoX are TERRIBLE. Now, instead of revamping them, they're having the PLAYERS do their work?

I get the craving for CoX every now and then because it is fun in small doses. However when you do mission after mission after mission it gets very old quickly. Instead of allowing users to create their own missions, they need to look at quest design in WoW and get some ideas.

Bioshock wasn't bad, but it wasn't as great as people were making it out to be. The graphics seemed subpar, especially the opening scene where you're supposed to be seeing the underground city. Gameplay was about the same as System Shock but with water. Definitely a fun game, but not the second coming or anything.
