I'd be a little concerned about job security.

"alleged" director. Damn that's funny!!

I liked the Doom movie. I didn't mind too much that the monsters weren't from hell, but it seemed like the monsters kinda took a back seat to everything else.

I like how they did the pinky demon.

Looking forward to playing this game. Just picked it up today at Target for 29.99. It was an unadvertised special. I knew if I waited for a while it would pay off.

"I started looking at what I was going to do next, so I looked around on the net and I saw there was an opportunity for an MMO"

You missed a perfectly good opportunity to KISS MY ASS!

What is the difference between this and BF1942, besides graphics? I played the original HL1 engine version one and It seemed to be pretty much the same thing.

Who are the "fans" they're talking about? Probably employees of Pepsi, Coke, Marlboro, and whoever else they could dig up that also happens to enjoy playing games once in a while.

Ever since 1.12 the load times seem to be greatly increased. I changed a video setting and I shit you not - I sat and waited for 2 1/2 minutes while the damn game optimized textures or whatever - and the first minute or two after finally getting into the game it's virtually unplayable as the game is apparently defragging my hard drive as I'm playing. Ok, just kidding, but there's some serious hard drive activity during the first few minutes and it can be like watching a slide show. I've turned off all background apps, I have plenty of system and video card memory. This problem didn't appear 'till the last patch...

And wtf is "verifying client data" all about?? - I know it's not new, but come on... The one great thing about BF1942 that keeps me playing it is that you can pretty much get right into a game and be playing 15-20 seconds.

The server browser seems to be working a little better since I figured out the "secret" to applying filters. You can have no more than six options checked at a time, or else when you hit "apply filters" you'll come up with an empty list. I found that it was not necessary to have each map size option checked to see all size maps being played. Just uncheck them all and you'll see 'em all.

And the red / blue color change thing?? This has been a problem since day one. I'd think in a team-based game such as this an issue of this nature would be somewhere near the top of the "to do" list.

Maybe it's just me.

I know I'm whining a lot - but I love this game. I really do. With a few changes it could be nearly perfect.

I'm glad I got the cd version from the store. But I had no problem finding servers to play on last night.

And the grapple is not a "quake grapple". This one you hook on something above you and you climb the rope.

And I finally figured out why the damned in-game server browser would lose all servers after you change a filter. You can only have up to 6 boxes checked, any more than that and it just can't handle it. What I was doing wrong was checking all three map size boxes assuming this would allow me to see all size maps being played. But if you leave them all unchecked it will show you all of them anyway...

I love it when a patch is released a mere hour after I have purchased the game.

A System Shock or Thief series game using the source engine would be cool, although the Doom engine would probably be more suited to the creepy atmosphere...

I think every weapon just has a trade-off.. I found that the assault rifle (US side) has greater accuracy but doesn't have full auto, where the unlockable rifle does have full auto but doesn't seem to be as accurate.

Depends on what kind of mood I'm in as to what weapon I choose. If I feel like rushing, I'll take the full auto, if I want to hold back and pick off some long-range shots I'll take the semi.

Same thing with the medic pack - both have their plusses and minuses.

Dunno about the sniper pack - snipings just not my thing.

I'll be picking up the expansion at any rate. BF2 is a kick ass game - the only one that can be so addictive and so annoying at the same time, but not enough to make be destroy my mouse.

I'm not saying I don't like MMO's at all - I've never tried one, and I can't say that they suck. Hell, I'd probably really like playing SWG. But I just can't justify paying a monthly fee to play a game. I already pay $30/month for a broadband connection, and I've got so many games that are paid for and I can play for free... Plus - I'm married and I just don't have the time that MMO's seem to require of the player.

But I'm certainly not trying to insult the genre, or the people who enjoy playing the games. Sorry if anyone took it in that manner.

SOE: "Perhaps you feel you are being treated unfairly?"

SWGPlaya: "No..."

SOE: "I am altering the deal, pray I don't alter it any further..."

SWGPlaya: <clutches throat>

Man, I am so glad I never got into the pay to play mmorpgs.

Do away with the monthly fee, and I'll consider playing your game.
