Anyone get ARK yet? Looks fun but most of the reviews lead me to believe it's still a hot mess atm.

A friend at work picked it up, to play with his other friend... They're enjoying it, but haven't put enough time in to really have much of an opinion...

Apparently you should take a mount before you create a base, at least on a PVP server, because your character/base stays in game, but inactive, if you log off, but your mount can still fight for you. Still sets up a scenario where you'll get your ass beat while offline, but making yourself not so easy pickings helps people choose other targets.

I'm happy a third is being made, but I'm not sure about an early purchase this time around... Loved early DS2 with helping others and what not, but the DS2: Screw You edition leaves a bad taste in my mouth...

But if I'm not actively playing something when it hits, I'll likely jump on board anyways... Really unsure on the DLC situation too... Don't think I beat all the crown bosses yet... And never did finish BB either...

Conceptually, I like the idea of a MOO remake... I enjoyed it back in the day...

But, my tastes have changed... The genre's tastes have changed... The gaming audience in general has changed...

Some of you want a remake, but I can't see that turning out well... But again, my tastes... I don't play many (any?) 4X these days, preferring action over waiting (or micromanaging)... SPAZ is a pretty good idea of the kind of title I prefer these days : )

As someone who hopes to put an early-access indie title on Steam at some point... I believe return policy is almost there. They just need to limit it to games that cost $30 and up, which are mostly non-indie titles.

My biggest buying regrets were Aliens: Colonial Marines and Fallout 3, both made by big companies, both over $30.

This policy change might also encourage lower pricing of games? There's probably an unforeseen side-effect to this, but I don't see it just yet.

Just out of curiosity: did you know less than 2 hours into FO3 that you wanted a refund? (I assume you did with A:CM)

I did... I eventually put more time into it, but I had to force myself (at least to get started)...

I also have dozens of unplayed games on Steam, and dozens I've played about 15-30 minutes of... Some of those would have been great to get a refund from. Many of the unplayed ones are bundle games, so no refund available, and pretty moot at some of those bundle prices.

I personally think this new policy is a great step forward, and I think it'll even out. I have no expectations of ever using it, but maybe another Bound by Flame or similar will come out ; )

Another thread I saw on this, an indie dev pointed out a very large increase in global steam sales after the announcement, which he theorized was related to the other half of this policy... More people are likely to buy a product now that they have the option of not paying when they don't like it. However, in both sets of charts/graphs, there is so much missing information, the theories (on both sides) may have like 5% merit.

I did a blog post about this with a video rant to go with it. In my opinion, there is nothing bad about Steam refunds. Aside from the sheer arrogance of some of these uber-niche indie developers who think the entire system should bend to their will (because the failure of their projects is never their fault, it's always someone else's fault), there's some major flawed logic at play here. They assume that everyone who buys and beats a less than two hour game will always request a refund and they assume that everyone who is doing so would have bought the game in the first place.

I think this is just showing the reality that maybe some of their games aren't as good as they thought they were. I can tell you, as someone who has played Titan Attacks from Puppygames, I wish the refund policy was in place then because that game was bad. But like I said, it's always someone else's fault that your game doesn't sell, never cause for some self-reflection on your creation. Just because you think your game is good doesn't mean it is and it doesn't mean you're entitled to success.

When I read this the other day, I had no idea who Puppygames was, and that they made that neat selection of games, like the one you mention... So bad, it has a 91% rate on Steam for ~700 reviews...

Fortunately I only have Project Zomboid purchased there and nothing else. Definitely a good preview of what happens if/when Steam goes under.
Not even a decent preview of what will happen if Steam goes under. Desura is mainly DRM-Free so you can right now go and download almost all the games you ever bought from them and keep them and install them later to play. Basically you can preserve the content you bought so the money you spent didn't just disappear.

The "Steam-pocalypse" should it ever occur will be much much worse. You'll be able to download all your games but once the Steam servers go down, with a few exceptions, you will be SOL getting the games to run unless each and every publisher issues a steam removal patch before steam servers shutdown (which won't happen). All the thousands of dollars you spent over the years will have disappeared with the steam servers.

I don't know about all that... If Steam were to ever die, it's not like it would happen in a vacuum, and since Games already work offline, I could see a client update that lets you stay that way indefinitely, before they close up for good. Outside if that, even non-piracy people would have a pretty damn strong case to get all their titles back in other ways ; )

"Invasion Force" is everything that is wrong with Greenlight. A static turret shooting game with awful graphics, absurd HUD, shitty action and yet it's cluttering up a shopfront that already has far more products than it needs...

The signal to noise ratio on Steam has gone to shit.

Had to check it out, after your 'review'... This is exactly what Greenlight is for... Niche games with small demographics, given a place to monetize.

The problem isn't that Steam suddenly has a lot of 'shitty' titles (because Steam has always had a lot of 'shitty' titles)... The problem is that Steam as a storefront is shit... Not interested in a game? Great, click on Not Interested, but it'll be in your recommended list tomorrow...

I have played competitive FPS since UT, but when I did, it was UT-Excessive, so I'm all for fast speed, though I'll miss six-loaded super jumps across bigass maps...

Don't have much of an opinion on this yet, other than that I'll likely give it a try (assuming F2P) and judge it when I've played it ; )

I agree. Nothing wrong with the crafting interface. If a recipe needs a particular reagent that you haven't crafted but can craft, the game takes that into account automatically and you're able to directly create the item that actually needs the other item/reagent created first. Nothing wrong with it. Some people here are getting old, is all.

Nothing? Really? So it's perfect?

Maybe I'm missing how I can compare the crafted item to my equipped item (verbosely; The info on the right missing important details).

And when I do craft a weapon/armor piece, which you can only do at a vendor, I have to leave the vendor (by choosing the stop option, instead of B/escape), just to equip the new item, and then talk to the vendor again to sell the previous piece...

And why keep showing that I have bombs/potions I already created, if there's no way (through crafting) to increase their max held, statistics, etc? Is it so that I can longingly remember how much of a pain it was for me to find that second Calcium Equum? : )

I dunno about Witcher 3, do you find tons of loot? If you have 5 pages of loot then yeah, grids are stupid

Only thing to go on here is the potion page I saw on a stream, which had oils at the top, tons of crap in the middle, bombs, concoctions and potions somewhere in that mess. With no way to see what is what unless you hover over everything carefully.

I don't know enough about the Witcher crafting world to know what to throw out, so I have a crap ton of stuff across pages of grids so I don't miss out on that one uber Item I'll need in another 100 hours that can only be gotten once... The only thing I consistently sell is weapons/armor I don't need...

Incidentally... You start with 60 Inv space, and I finally found a merchant that sells an upgrade.. All the way up to 70! And it was expensive... But I needed to space, so I threw it on, and went up to 130... Best surprise ever... : )

Also Geralt really doesn't need to do a silly twist or flip every time he does a move, especially when it exposes you to being interrupted. It's pretty funny considering that they call out Ciri for that kind of crap in the story intro but then go ahead and do it anyway.

My thoughts exactly, but it is part of what makes combat harder (not more challenging)...

I am so glad I didn't pick up Project Cars...

Though this teaser does nothing for me...

However... I like NFS games, because I prefer 'arcade' driving, and progression/story... I don't care for the Gangsta story some of the previous games have been going with, but I still enjoy it a lot more than the sim style of, 'race this track/season', then the next, etc... Can't hold my interest very long.

I think I've put in about 8 hours so far... Finished all the POI's in the first zone, which was a little over half the time played.

I've had about 3 or so lock ups so far, most/all during cut scene's, so maybe related to the comment below. I also have a 970 (not SLI though), and just noticed earlier that hair FX were off, so I turned it on (haven't played since changing that though), so I'll flip that back off if it seems worse.

As for the Wraith Oil comment, if you're talking the noonwraith, I had no issue with it, but was using a slightly upgraded weapon... It recommends you prepare with some stuff, but I didn't have the mats, so I didn't bother, and thought I'd get beat down, but found it reasonable... Second highest difficulty (no healing by meditating). If you need a fairly good weapon set upgrade early on, Two of the POIs have weapon recipes in the first area, one is in a crypt with a power stone outside, and the other is in a fort that is near the first town you ride through right at the beginning.

And now that I think of it, it's probably not the noonwraith, but one of the wraith's usually guarding a power stone, which seemed much higher lvl... Took more damage than the bear though.

Must have been some kind of error, they announced the global unlock times a couple weeks ago and it's always been 4PM pacific, 7PM eastern. They chose to base it on midnight British Time for some reason.

Also, I'm expecting gamepad to rule this one.

Musta been, I'm up for 7 though. I saw someone playing it, can't remember the stream but either they were shit poor with a controller or they simply sucked because they couldn't hit the broadside of a barn.
