1. Daytona USA confirmed for XBLA, PSN with trailer. Oct 12, 2011, 23:06 SirKnight
Awesome! I loved that game back in the arcade days. I remember also playing it on a Sega Saturn setup for demo at various stores.

I recently bought a Sega Saturn on ebay. Always wanted one but never got one, until now. I think it came with Daytona USA...

It's a damn shame Rockstar is not going to offer the hardcore difficulty mode and the Solomon's Folly SP as DLC for the original RDR.

These guys sure like to screw over their customers. This is yet another example. Loyalty means jack shit I guess.

5. Free software founder, Richard M. Stallman is glad Jobs is gone. Oct 10, 2011, 12:10 SirKnight
Jobs has done more for the tech and computer industry than Stallman ever has or could ever do. Stallman is nothing but a burned out hippie from the 60's that hasn't done jack.

So he started GNU. Big deal. Only a hippie could come up with that anyway.

I don't remember exactly when I started coming here, but it was the mid-late 90's for sure. Probably very shortly after moving to its own domain. Anyway, I've always thought this site is one of the best, if not THE best, for gaming news and I still do. I will continue to come here until I can no longer physically do it - whatever that might mean.

Long Live Blue!

So it's the driver's fault that you never had a GUI for PC users for this? Riiiiiiight. Wow, has id ever turned into a bunch of dickholes.

That's how you interpreted this? Wow. Your comprehension skills are awful. Either that, or you're very desperately trying to bash id b/c it's now the hip and cool thing to do I guess.

Too bad the radeon driver team can't make a driver to save their ass. ATI drivers have always been pure shit and it's taking id down with it since so many "pc gamers" are complete morons that can't tell the difference between a driver bug and a game bug. On my nvidia setup the game looks and plays perfectly. No crazy tweaking needed either.

The BS I've been reading recently makes me not want to ever admit I'm a pc gamer any more. Good thing I actually play console and pc. No wonder devs no longer want to support pc. These PoG's are a bunch of whiny a-holes. At least console gamers, while they accept lesser quality stuff, are not a bunch of fuktards.

There are no mod tools yet.

And I fail to see how this game is broken. It works fine for me, minus the minor texture pop in.

Man yesterday when I saw the wolf 3d easter egg I posted on a youtube video of it that it would be cool if the doom egg was the first level. I did not expect that to actually be true and omg it actually was! Crazy.

Adios, Apple.

Your downhill slide began yesterday but it picked up a bit of speed today.

While I agree their iPhone 4S announcement was flat and all, but the second part of your comment is just wrong.

To me it seems there's more people wanting RDR on the PC than LAN.

RDR is an awesome game and one of my fav of all times. To me, it blows away LAN like crazy. It would be cool to see RDR on the PC with super awesome textures and such.

If they ever do, I'm buying it day one. In the meantime, I'll continue with the 360 version.

Are they serious? Man I can't even say how bad I want this game to be good, but it just blows so much ass. Oh well, at least I still have Duke 3D. Damn fine game right there.

News Comments > More on RAGE Tweaking
2. Re: More on RAGE Tweaking Oct 5, 2011, 21:23 SirKnight
Looks like they aren't kidding that you need A LOT of video ram to have 16K texture page tables. My 460 SLI (each has around 700-something MB) gave me the finger. lol! I was getting like 0.1 fps. The 3GB 580 is definitely the way to go with page tables that big.

I'll try 8K later, but it seems fine for now using auto.

I've gotta say, I'm really digging this game. The movement feels good, I like the enemies so far and the graphics are quite good despite the page tables lagging behind a bit if zipping around quickly. That will be fixed though.

Bring on Doom 4!

Holy crap. People weren't kidding when they said that, in some areas, the textures looked like the 1990s.

Aye, "Teh Carmack" has fallen.

No. He has not even come close to fallen. He still has better graphics and programming ability than most. If more people could understand virtual texturing at a technical level they'd understand the issues here better. A lot of the graphical issues on the PC has to do with the drivers. Also, a lot of people just aren't upgrading their PCs as much and they think their several year old card is good enough. It's not. Even though it may be more powerful on paper than the 360/PS3, there's many barriers keeping a lot of the performance bottled up. Most of the crappy looking screenshots of Rage I am seeing come from people with old shitty hardware or horribly bugged drivers. For me, the game looks amazing.

Also, he said in a recent interview that it was a mistake trying to design the game around all platforms at the same time. Back when they started doing this game that made sense, but it no longer did shortly after. He said that from now on, they'll focus on the PC like in the past making it pure awesome and the console versions will be cut down from that. It was very nice to hear him say that and realize their design flaw talking about it publicly.

What we're really going to need is some kind of OpenGL extension or some type of programming model that will allow more direct memory access like the consoles have. On the console, to update the texture pages you can just do a simple memcpy() and it's done. On the PC you have to go through extra steps and API indirections (glTexSubImage2D, etc) which takes a lot more time creating page update lag.

News Comments > Unlock RAGE Hi-Rez Textures
6. Re: Unlock RAGE Hi-Rez Textures Oct 5, 2011, 15:22 SirKnight
the reason tweaking is necessary to force these texture improvements seems to be the result of errors in the auto-balancer that's supposed to handle this stuff automatically

Wow I'm so surprised! LOL! This is the thing I was saying yesterday (forget which site). That these auto detection things for video settings never works all that well. The best way is to have it where you can select prebuilt profiles (low, medium, high, ultra - for example) and also allow custom tweaking. This way you can tune it to look best for you while maintaining good performance. There are some aspects of graphics some people find more important than others so it's best to allow detailed tweaking.

That Apple presentation today was a huge disappointment. It seems I'm not alone in that. Most comments I read on just about every site that covered this said the same thing. Even their stock took a pretty decent nose dive.

The new iPhone is very late and this is all they have? A very minor update to the 4. Woooo. :/

I'm also very disappointed how the iPod touch is still the same. I was hoping for 128GB finally as my 64GB is getting quite low.

All the more reason to upgrade to the Galaxy S II it seems. I have the HTC Evo 4G now. What a slow ass phone, lol. It definitely was very much over hyped and Sprint's coverage SUUUUUUCKS. Yeah it's nice they give me unlimited data, but its about useless since I only sometimes have signal and it's crappy when I do.

I find the Ars review to be a crock of shit TBH. The game is quite cool and fun other than a few graphical issues that are driver bugs. It's definitely a lot better than Doom 3, and I liked Doom 3 quite a bit.

In my hour of playing so far, I've had 10000x more fun than the BF3 beta. I'm very glad I bought Rage.

WTF?! No video options in a PC game from id, Carmack you've fallen so hard from your pinnacle.

So he created this awesome virtual texturing technology that allows artists complete freedom in painting the virtual world - giving detail in resource constrained environments that normally is not possible, something no one else has even come close to doing and just because they did not add complex graphics options (not even up to Carmack anyway) suddenly he has fallen? Uh...ooook.

Carmack only does the very core render programming these days. They have so many programmers now that he is no longer responsible for most of the code like in the old days.

OMG they're going to be at GameStop...those BASTARDS! They should be skinned alive for such treachery. Heathens I say!

I don't like the idea of the engine figuring out the settings for me. This has NEVER worked well in the past with every game that tries to do this. I can almost always run at MUCH higher settings than the game detects.

Of course, this is an id engine so it will have cfg files and the drop down console. So it's all good.
