The single player looks really good. Everything they show looks epic.

There's a SnapMap video on Bethesda's YouTube channel that's about an hour long. Turns out there is still hope for multiplayer after all. There was a mode someone made at id that was 4 player DM, but there were no loadouts. The players all start with the double barrel shotgun and pickup weapons all around the map in true old-school fashion. Also they sped the player up A LOT so it really looked like old-doom or Quake.

SnapMap is a lot more capable than I thought and I think it's going to really save this game's multiplayer while making the single even better than it already looks.

Plus you can make co-op maps!

Remember too, cdkeys.com has it for $35.

I think it's cool how Romero is working on Doom maps again. His maps were always my favorite with the original games.

I'd like to see him make some Quake maps now.

I guess this is what happens when you pawn off the multiplayer to someone else made up of CoD devs.

I fired up Quake Live a couple times yesterday and was like, man if doom was exactly this I would be buying it day one for sure. I really like the freeze tag mode some servers run.

14GB for this very stripped down beta. LOL @ megatextures.

It's pretty obvious this game is made for the console first and foremost. The need to make it playable with a controller just smacks you in the face so hard. No twitchy aiming (which you'd only have with a mouse), no bunny hopping or rocket jumping. Movement, while a little faster than Doom 3, is not as fast as it should be (much faster in id's old games).

But given that the multiplayer is made by another company made up of ex Halo and CoD developers, it's no wonder the MP of Doom blows this much ass. It all makes perfect sense. Made for a console by devs from the two FPSes that watered down the genre so bad.

Supposedly, Halo 5 for The Bone is more like old school Doom/Quake than this new Doom is, with weapons sprinkled around the map and so on. This is from what I've heard, I don't have a bone.

Player customization is cool, but having to unlock guns, having loadouts, not having weapon pickups and having perks that unbalance the game are not cool. It goes against Doom, Quake and ID games in general. This is Doom, not Call of Doom.

This is exactly right. This is not a game from the old id we all loved back in the days of Quake.

Call of Doom is exactly what I have been saying this is since the closed alpha last year.

So unless there will be enough of an ability to mod the game into the true old school id shooter we expect, I'll just stick to the single player. Assuming it's good and honestly I'm not holding my breath.

For now, if you want proper multiplayer you're still better off with dusting off Quake 3 (or even Quake 1/2 if you can find players or just use bots) or even Quake Live on steam. Quake Live is a billion time more fun than this new Doom. Even the new Unreal Tournament is a proper twitch shooter like it always was...and it's FREE and can be modded to the fullest extent!

I'll just leave this here: Doom Multiplayer Beta Preview - Worthaplay?

I only care about the single player at this point given how terrible the multiplayer is. Actually I think this closed beta was even worse than the alpha given how much of a cluster-fuck the key binding system was. How id fucked that up is beyond me. The game still feels like CoD and made-for-a-controller (which it is). The pickups are a complete joke, as well as the loadouts. Sigh...

But, with how crap the MP is, I'm really questioning about the SP being any good. Maybe I'll buy it for the SP when I can get it for 50% off, or more. Maybe.

It's pretty obvious the mod-ability is going to be nothing compared to the old doom which is still going strong. The fact they are still going with MegaTextures pretty much kills any true modding/map-making.

I have a feeling GZDoom/Zandronum with Brutal Doom is going to still be superior in every way.

Honestly I liked the FMV games of the 90s. I still actually do.

I'd take a cheesy (which is what made them funny usually) FMV game than another CoD or Halo. Ugh.

feels bad man... no excitement at all to bad id died when carmack left waste time on VR.

id died loooooong before Carmack left.

Actually, the last great game they made with Carmack was Quake 3. Carmack's tech for Doom 3 was cool to look at from a graphics programmer's perspective, but not good enough for a game like Doom 3 should have been. Then his tech for Rage was again, cool for a graphics programmer to think about, but turned out to be crap for a game. It took tons of space and was still blurry as shit and had pop-in like crazy. The aspect of having "unique textures everywhere" went unnoticed due to the blur and pop-in.

Honestly, the last thing Carmack did that was great was the Quake 3 engine.

For me it was all about Rock Band 4. I have close to $1,000 of DLC downloaded for Rock Band 4 and I wanted this all to transfer over for free from Xbox360 to Xbox 0ne. Plus I really didn't use my PS3 last generation and didn't want to buy another paperweight.

$1,000 worth of DLC.....my God I hope you're joking.

There's a hell of a lot more people using OSX than Linux. This move makes perfect sense between the two.

More people play games on a mac than you realize.

Yes as he should be. He got on her phone without her consent which is no different than hacking into it. Different means of the same thing.
