At some point in time, Project Reality (of BF2) is releasing an Arma2 Op Arrowhead version of its mod. I am awaiting this as it should bring a great new PvP experience to Arma2.

You are probably much better off not eating cereal or any other carbs. You won't spike your blood sugar and get that crash feeling.

This all worked because the games that people had installed on their PC's were autonomous. They had everything needed to run on that single PC. I think EA learned real quick how dangerous this was when the 2nd expansion for BF1942 came out (or was it the third?) and it had to compete with modern combat. (mod for bf1942) I completely ignored the expansion, and I imagine TONS of other people did as well, mainly because I was playing the shit out of modern combat.

I'm not sure how much Valve is complaining about selling tons what used to be a free Counterstrike mod.

Also, not sure how much of a detriment it was for the weak Secret Weapons expansion for Battlefield 1942 to "compete" against Desert Combat, if that's what you meant. The team that created Desert Combat was hired by Dice to complete Battlefield 2.

The big boys might not be able to control it, but they can cash in on mods. At least, they have in the past.

Okay here's a changelog file from my old FH2 install:

Forgotten Hope 2
----------------
http://fhmod.org/
This is version 1.5.841 built 2009-09-03 13:44:46.556510

Changelog
---------

==============================
= Forgotten Hope 2.2 RC3 =
==============================

Changes from Version 1.5.819 to Version 1.5.841
-----------------------------------------------
Kits
----
* Remove grappling hooks from all kits (ctz)

Levels
------
* Fixed bugs on alam halfa and sidi rezegh (knoffhoff)

Vehicles
--------
* Fix planes crashing in BF2 v1.5 (ctz)
* Fix cameras for widescreen (ctz)
* Fix reference to missing lods on Bofors40mm (ctz)

Misc
----
* Operation Luttich ambients final (bratwurst)
* Fix canadian win/lose music and other sounds (ctz)
* Added AN M14 TH Incen Grenade to localization (knoffhoff)

September of last year. There are two versions floating around. 2.2 and 1.5.841. Very nice.

1.5.x series is the internal versioning for the devs. All releases for BF2 have been publicly known as version 2.x. FYI after 2.20 was 2.25 (January release I believe)

If you weren't already up to date, I'd recommend getting the full 2.26 installer, like Ant suggested. This latest incremental patch was 1 gig.

Highlights of the new stuff include one new map, the M18 Hellcat US tank destroyer, and a new deploy mode for light machineguns.

There is a serious epidemic of account compromises. My own account was hijacked after laying dormant for 6 months. I believe you pretty much need to use their authenticator now or else risk getting hijacked. If it wasn't some kind of in-game add-on exploit, I'm not sure how a compromise could have happened on my PC. This coming from someone who spends half their time removing malware from Joe User's PC for a living.

I tried to like this game when it was released. A lot of people said it was good back then before the overhauls. It should have died a long, long time ago.

This is one of my favorite game series ever. I really wish they make another. DF2 JK is so hideous to the point of unplayable now. Great stuff back in the day. I also played the hell out of that multiplayer map Bespin. I'd guess Jedi Outcast is very playable to this day. I tried Jedi Academy again just a couple years ago and it holds up. Both of those are on the Quake 3 engine.

FH2 active playerbase is currently pretty low. But in the next month or so (I hope), the next FH2 version should be released, which will include Normandy and American forces. Expect a huge resurgance!

PR has the largest BF2 mod playerbase by far. POE2 officially suspended all development and hardly anyone is playing at this point. If you are going to check out PR, reading the manual is REQUIRED!

Yeah I would recommend that most people wait on this honestly. $30 for what little was added isn't a good value whatsoever. However it is a great purchase if you don't already own the first two COH releases. And yes, the bugs in the current version are nasty.
