News Comments > Ships Ahoy - S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
29. Spasibo! Mar 20, 2007, 19:29 A51Abductee

Thanks, everyone, for posting your initial impressions of Stalker. I'll be picking this up as soon as I can scrape together the $$$. If we care in the slightest bit for PC gaming and innovation, we should do our best to buy PC-exclusive games like this in droves. We should prove to the corporate publishers that there is a significant demand for new concepts and settings. As an American, I also think its quite a progressive statement and tribute to our general intelligence that they relatively minimized the "localization" of this title for us - retaining metric/SI measurements, Russian language and signage, et cetera. Reward GSC and THQ for taking a risk. Also reward them for pricing this at $39.99 US (in the States). I sincerely hope that this title sells well and the developers can buy plenty of vodka.

7. Re: GW Mar 5, 2007, 19:13 A51Abductee
Also done with GW here as well, after 1500+ total hours, 7 level 20 chars, and numerous guilds. Zero regrets, it was great entertainment. Also not a bad value at all for $150 (Prophecies/Factions/Nightfall @ $50 each). We should at a minimum respect that they were able to sucessfully apply their unique fee-free MMO economic model. I hope that they can preserve this model and still bring an increased sense of an actual world environment with their sequel release. *If* they're even planning one (..Inquirer).

5. Re: you blew it with that demo Mar 5, 2007, 16:51 A51Abductee
I think I'll wait for some (peer) reviews for this one, especially after watching this combat-focused video. Massive amounts of hype, combined with Ken Levine's incessant desire to talk and rant about everything under the sun, has set this game up for a higher level of scrutiny. This will all likely lead to some amount of disappointment from my fellow jaded PC gamers. Perhaps the console crowd will be pleased with it. Guess I'll just go mumble to myself and play Deus Ex for the billionth time.

Gotta love patch days. My realm (Shadow Council) is currently pretty much unplayble, with nasty inventory lag experienced by everyone (who can even login). Hopefully they correct it soon. I'm already having the first withdrawal symptoms..

Patch days are always a good opportunity to blow the dust off of other games though. (Other games.. what are those? hehe)

Is it possible that these PC->Mac game ports are subsidized by Apple, Inc. ? Or are they actually profitable for the companies involved

If they're still making a profit, at least the continued release of Mac games offers a sense of hope to those who might fear that PC gaming will die. We'd always at least get console ports.

This software title isn't even worthy of a comment.

Oops, too late.

New features, excellent! As if the MODS didn't give us enough to play with already. Trying this out now.

I play this game at least once almost every evening before bed - it never gets old. Best $25 US spent on a game in a long time. Hooray for indie game developers

Don't get me wrong, I highly respect Ken Levine's game contributions and am as excited about BioShock as the next guy.

But damn he rants way too much. Seems like a media interview a day from him.

Could be worse, he could be Dr. Derek Smart.

Uhm, if the LASIK@Home kit is so easy and affordable then why is "Dr. Khadim" still wearing glasses? Glaucoma? Just a thought

I tried the Kudos demo and it was quite fun. Thanks, Blue, for covering small and independently developed games like this one. Some of my favorite independent games I've discovered via news posts on this site (Wierd Worlds anyone?). I fully intend to buy this one as soon as I can. Thanks again

13. Re: Progress? Jul 10, 2006, 17:35 A51Abductee
This is "progress" in the PC gaming audio front? Bring back the innovation of Aureal. Oh, nevermind, since their innovation was a threat, Creative would just sue them into bankruptcy and then insidiously absorb them in a hostile corporate takeover (again). So much for the competition and innovation of the free-market system. 30 years from now I'll still be ashamed of Creative for doing this, I still won't have bought any of their products, and they'll still be selling the same old Soundblaster soundcard with horrible drivers.
