Here is their answer to a question about modding.
Q: How modifiable will DCS be?
A: Our number one goal of any tools to modify the program will be to maintain multiplayer compatibility between players and as much as possible neutralize online cheating. With that in mind, we will provide an extensive set of options using LUA code to modify certain systems, replace models and textures, and modify the GUI.
Have you ever seen such a load of BS in all your life. The community for LOMAC and most Flight Sims is unbelievably small in comparison to FPS and other genres, the multiplayer aspect to that community is tiny, and yet they a worried about the 10 or 20 people who might cheat. That is utter BS, since the community is so small, there isn't going to be groups of FSers who will hack and slash their way around a system of CRC checks when joining a multiplayer server for a flight sim, we are a completely different mindset when doing multiplayer action. The time we spend simming is all about being a realistic as possible and cheating would defeat the purpose for the person cheating.
Lets face it, they are going to come out with addons and they don't want the mod community competing with that. Their LUA stuff does not allow someone to add new aircraft. Jeez, it would be too easy to add CRC checks to their program that when you join a server you must have the right aircraft to join that server. Either these guys don't understand their own community OR they are lying, either way isn't a good thing.
Flight Sims are a niche market and a company should be trying to expand that market , not shrink it. Look at MSFS, the modding community is HUGE and so are sales (in comparison to other Flight sims), that isn't a coincidence.
FSX, WOE, WOV, Strike Fighters all have a ton of modding and yet I have never seen a single cheat in any of those games.
