Oh yes, using a 6+year old engine, developed for a medieval strategy game spanning over 500 years -> for 2 WW2 only strategy games, and a new WW3 strategy game, all of which only lasts a few decades is awesome.
HoI 1 was mess, it was unplayable at the start due to bugs and poor design, and even with all the patches its still a subpar game.
HoI 2(or 1, if they had have actually invested the time in it) was better, but still didnt work all that well - it certainly wasnt as good as EU or Victoria.
Let's see, some problems with the EU engine and their newer games:
1)World map and how its divided into regions, means there are no tactics and limits strategy
2)Combat while much improved, is still weak
3)Research is a joke
4)Complex economy is a joke
5)Politics is laughable, just play a random game and see how the politics work out.
I could search the paradox forums for another 50 reasons, but it should be pretty obvious just by playing EU and HoI, that the engine is unsuitable, and continuing to milk it instead of putting the money into a new gen engine for EU3/HoI3 is just being cheap.
