Guess that'll save gamers from needing to clean up the stench of their hand sweat from their mice and gaming space. Quite the time saver.

I just find it weird that anyone would smoke that much meat - non-commercially - and hate being outside that much, that it would warrant purchasing one of these things.

I think the draw would be you live in a space where outdoor grills/smokers aren't allowed. I have an outdoor smoker and I'd never drop additional cash to get one for the inside, regardless of the outside weather.

You're comparing years-old games with one that's been out a couple months. From what I've read, both of them had major detractors for quite awhile.

No, the base game has all the functionality that's been added over the years. They've introduced 'seasonal' content that has quests unique to that season; completing the challenges of that season usually rewards the player with items unique to that season that then get added to the players account. The 'seasons' are like the D3 seasons or the POE challenge leagues where you have to start a new character within that league. But the environments are the same whether you play in the 'league' or you play the standard game. An example of a reward you could get for playing the challenge league is a unique ship or an armor aesthetic that would only be available if you had played in that league.

I got about 250 hours out of the game before I felt like I had seen everything I needed to.

The general idea is:
  • explore and experience the different procedurally-generated environments
  • accumulate resources
  • accumulate ships
  • build bases
  • build resource extractors for income
  • acquire and improve your freighter

It was a lot of fun for the time I put into it. There is a point where there's nothing new left to do, however. They've added these seasonal challenges, but all those do is require you to start a new character from the beginning and grind your way to a seasonal goal, with an account-persistent reward. I haven't played since they introduced communities, so I can't speak to that. It was definitely worth the purchase price.

If there isn't a mode for batting practice I have no interest in it.

I learned my lesson with early access games once, and once is enough. I'll never give any more than $20 to a kickstarter again. I know of people who spent upwards of $1000 (some a lot more) to fund Shroud of the Avatar three years before it released and that didn't turn out too well for them.

How many of you guys complaining about the extra $10 for SC2 spend the $2.50 for a shitty tasting can of Red Bull how many times a week?

Duke was a good game back whenever it came out, but there were a lot of other shooters that were just as good. It was the hype surrounding it and all the 3DR bullshit over the years that made it legendary. It was a good game. But not tattoo worthy, for chrissakes.

Hope you previous owners of the European version have success with patching. I prolly should have tried uninstall/reinstall and then patch, but I went out and bought the EE version in store.

The patch posted on Friday doesn't seem to work on the uncensored European version of the game. I tried it from both the Fileplanet download as well as the download from the CDProjekt's website. All I get is 'CatastrophicError' when it tries to update the local key file (and I am registered). If anyone had the uncensored European version and got the patch to work, please let me know.

I have XP Pro with roughly 3.25gb main memory and a SATA HD; my load times are 15-20 seconds. But this game is worth it; its one of the best RPGs I've ever played.

The label on the back of my IBM keyboard tells me it was made somewhere in 1983. It has those clickety-clack keys with real springs underneath and it's so heavy I could stop a Rottweiler with it. It'll probably last another 20 years.
