Blue,

Welcome to SD....my neck of the woods. Yes, our weather is great, but this time of year not so much. We are pretty much just like the rest of the country this time of year. When the weather really shines is in Dec/Jan when it can still hit 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.

So what is good about it? Storyline, graphics, gameplay...or even all of the above?

I was a big fan of the first two RE games (which I played on PS), but never played any after that. But, I heard really great things about RE4. Is it as good as the "reviews" said? Or have I been too jaded by my move to the PC to enjoy a console-port?

Could someone who has played RE4 share their thoughts on it as a PC gamer?

After market cooler for x850 pro Jan 7, 2006, 15:20

Well, I got lucky and found one of the AGP x850 pro's that could be flashed to open the locked pipes and make it an x850xt. Pretty easy stuff using some articles on techpowerup...

But, here is what I need help with. I would like to switch out the stock cooling for another fan/heatsink so it doesn't run so hot. However, I have no idea what goes into removing the stock fan, etc... Anyone have any tips on what to expect? What is a good one that will cool both the GPU and ram? Zalman or otherwise. Also, how do I remove the stock heat pads, etc? Putting the new one will be no problem, but I am not sure how to take the old one off.

Websites with tutorials or tips anyone?

It's a good step forward for you, but no one should be attributing anything to any deity without proof. Faith is a set of blinders the believers desperately need to remove so this world can get on with evolving and moving forward. Religion is indeed the opiate of the masses.

Halsy,

Your quoting of Marx and Feuerbach is terribly tiresome and you remind me of a kid who took one philosophy course in college (in modern thought no less) and is still using it as a simple weapon.
It is frighteningly embarassing to lambast someone for believing in a God while you trumpet the virtue of this thing called "progress." Progress...now there is a fiction.

All4naught

Hint...read some Nietzsche if you are going to go around spouting Marx. Hell, read some Foucault even. Then come back and preach about how we need to believe in "ourselves" and "evolve."

Alright...Fry's has pretty much the same price for every card as well. Bummer-I had no idea when I built this computer 2 years ago that PCI-xpress would come on so fast.

So, here is my new question. Will they even make a decent PCI Express mobo that will take an Athlon XP 3200+, SATA and DDR-400 RAM? Or will it all be for the Athlon 64? I didn't see anything right off on Newegg.

I think that what is going on here is that all decent AGP cards are really expensive, because their stock numbers are dwindling but their is still some demand. Basically, I am stuck.

Any suggestions on other places that may list video cards in print for less so I can get BB to price match? Other than circuit city, Fry's, and CompUSA where else is there?

Edit: OMG. I just looked -- the ATI card is $400, the BFG is $370. And, even more absurd, they have the BFG - GeForce 6800 Ultra OC for $1000. It's just a 6800GT w/ 512 MB! What a complete and utter ripoff!
Spend your gift card on something that BB actually has reasonable prices for, like games, movies, or music. Then go and buy the video card you want from NewEgg.

Ya, but Newegg has the same prices for the X850xt, although the BFG is about 100 bucks cheaper. I dunno...I need a new card to replace my 9800 pro, but I really dont want to do the whole mobo thing.

Well, I got a Best Buy gift card for an early Xmas present, but I was looking for some opinions on AGP video cards. (I don't want to updagrade the mobo right now)

So, here is the deal...the BFG 6800 GT Overclocked is within 30 bucks of the ATI X850XT. Both are under 400 dollars. Any suggestions on which one to get? The 6800Gt gets better fps in Quake4 and OpenGl, but the ATI does great in Source based things. They are the same in FEAR. Opinions?

Zicam.... Sep 27, 2005, 12:34

Blue,

I loved Zicam until about 8 months ago. In fact, I think even a quick perusal of my posts (sporadic as they are) would show how many times I have chimed in about the healing goodness of Zicam.

Until...well about 8 months ago I was getting a cold so I picked up the Zicam lozenges. This was new for me because I had used the spray before. Well, I hit the lozenges hard (every 4 hours on the dot, but in a day and a half- I had completely lost my sense of taste! It was gone...no salt, no sweet, no bitter, nada. Granted, no cold either, but no taste!

Did some checking on the intarweb and it turns out that some other people have had problems as well. But, my taste buds were busted for about 3 weeks and then slowly started working again and didn't function right until about 3 months later. And while I realize that a cold can cause a loss of sense of taste as well...it wouldn't for 3 months! Not even close.

Now, I know what some of you are thinking...a lost sense of taste...big deal. But, do you know how bad it sucked to get up every morning and not be able to taste my coffee? To not taste pizza or salsa? Eating ceases to be a pleasure if you can't taste, and it becomes a chore. Everything is cardboard.

Well, that is it. I have had my fill of Zicam.

Uh oh..gum problems are what are scaring me now. I just got the deep cleaning, but now they want me to see a gum specialist to talk about surgery!!

To make it worse, I got online and found pics of the gum surgery -oh dear God.

Blue, what homework are you referring to? Know of anything I can do besides surgery?

I was really excited about this game, until I tried to run the demo. I could have dealt with the low fps, but did the movement feel "floaty" to anyone else? It was like I would keep moving for a half second after I let up on the arrow keys. Did anyone else experience this? Is there a fix? Or is it just that Monolith walking style?

A little off subject, but anyonw play WoW? I'm a level 33 Human Warlock and I'm kinda clueless on what I should do next.

I am right there with you. I have a 32 priest and this is kind of a dead area (particularly if you try and solo a lot like I do.) But, I have been spending time in the areas of the Arathi Highlands, Wetlands and the Hillsbrad Foothills. All of those have little towns to pick up quests and decent grinding areas. I have good luck with the drops on Purgation Isle and the Naga south of Dun Garok.

No, you don't want to hear about fred channeling family members who are deceased. It was about as low and vile as you can get...seriously mean stuff. I always thought he was just funny until then, but that stuff was intensely hurtful (or at least tried to be.)

It is one thing to be a troll and joke around with that, and another to be a real person who mocks someone who is in a time of loss of a loved one. That is sub-human...whether online or not.

Fourpak,

That quote you posted reminded me of something that happened at the university I attended in Nashville...Trevecca University. Their motto for a hundred years had been Esse quam videri--"To be rather than to seem."

But the year I got there...the president decided that they needed to change the motto- to something flashier!

Let that just sink in for a minute.

Ah yes, the "Incredibles" school of thought. (Actually, that does makes sense to me...but then again I loved "The Incredibles."

So, what exactly ended up being the big secret on how to become a Jedi in this game? How many are there on a server? Is it not as big of a deal as they made it out to be or what?
