I am a fan of open world games, but I was completely oblivious to this. I might have thought it was just the card game, which I had played a few years ago and I thought was okay at best. This looks to be a well-reviewed game that is a mix of Skyrim and Elden Ring.

Never heard of this game before. One of the best games ever made? That's quite a statement. You're talking Witcher 3 territory for me with that kind of comment. Now you got my attention.

A bit of a clickbait title for sure, but the reviews are solid across the board and it is likely excellent if you like the puzzle genre. I noticed it dropped on GamePass and I am curious to check it out.

I think one of our members wrote a script to block stories based on keywords. Let me go ask in Out of the Blue.

I installed a similar add-on in Chrome, but the recent Manifest updates broke it. I'd be up to something else that works.

I dislike how many Americans judge things by left or right politics. How about we judge right or wrong according to the best logic and ethics instead simply siding with a political party by default?

As a Canadian, I am so tired of hearing about this guy. Can Blue's News please stop reporting any news about him? I am here for gaming news and I already see enough on other news sites (despite trying to avoid or ignore most of it).

I am still sad how far the Company of Heroes series has fallen. The first game is one of my all time favorites.

I am a big fan of both Thief, Deus Ex, and Dishonored games. However, I am not super interested in a PvPvE type game.

I am surprised that Alone in the Dark is on the worst of 2024 list. It had somewhat lukewarm critic reviews, but the user reviews are more on the positive side.

In the early days of Diablo we use to call them Diablo clones. However, with the later Diablo games becoming less popular, I think it has simply fallen out of favor for "Action Role-Playing games" (ARPGs). I don't disagree that the original Diablo is the grandfather of these games, but meh. I'm not sure you can force certain slang terms from becoming the widely accepted name for a game genre (like Roguelike or Metroidvania).

I don’t know that I would agree with that. D2 was incredibly popular and still played to this day. D3 is one of the best selling PC games of all time. I don’t think D4 moved nearly as many total numbers, but IIRC it was the fastest selling Blizzard game to date.

I don’t know that we need to tie the genre to one game, or that this is the game, but I don’t think it’s because the title series is less popular.

Perhaps you are correct, though I think Diablo 3, Diablo Immortal (mobile game), and Diablo 4 is when the game started getting increasing push-back and lost its longevity. It reminds me of Star Wars. Most of the fandom seems to hate the new films, but the films still do quite well in theaters.

The first Dragon Age is one of my favorite games. It had such great tactical combat.

I didn't even mind the second one. Its biggest sin was reusing rooms a dozen times in different locations (they didn't even rearrange any furniture, they were exactly the same).

I didn't like Inquisition half as much because they simplified the combat too much. Fighting is the most prominent action in the game and I felt like I was doing the exact same thing every fight. The basic fetch quests were also monotonous, but it is a lesser complaint for me.

Whatever the case, what is going to make or break Veilguard for me is the combat. Hopefully it is a more tactical and/or interactive.

Homeworld 3 is my most disappointing release of 2024. I was looking forward to another Homeworld game after so many years, but it is too bad they screwed it up so badly. Maybe I will play it in two years when it is released for free on Epic games or Game Pass.
That "award" would go to Star Wars Outlaws. I thought HW3 was fine and I was ready for a linear RTS campaign again. They had some cool space combat moments in the first missions that got me - when you lay the first ambush with your bombers. But even I could tell that the unit control was somehow off and more than once my ships were all over the place and did not follow my orders.

I am only in for the single-player campaign. The general consensus does seem to be that while the story is terrible, the single-player campaign is playable. Perhaps a few patches might help in some areas and I might give it a shot when there is a drastic sale (or released on some service like Game Pass).

Is Survivor worth getting these days? I seem to recall it had a lot of performance issues at launch. Did they bother patching up?

I played it and enjoyed.

I've got a relatively new gaming desktop and it ran fairly well, though it still had an occasional stutter for a second or two (nothing terrible).

I played it a few months ago, but a new patch was just released a few days ago that is supposed to further optimize the game: Patch Notes

I just played Core Keeper with the Free Weekend. While it took me an hour or so to warm up to it, I ended up playing it quite a bit over the weekend. I will probably pick it up when I have more time and my current Game Pass sub expires. It is basically a top-down version of Minecraft or Terraria.

EDIT: I just noticed it was also released to Game Pass. That being said, I can see myself spending many hours in the game and it is probably worth the $20 purchase.

"Olden Era" doesn't roll off the tongue very smoothly, but I am not against a new Heroes of Might and Magic game. Hopefully they are a bit more compelling than the more recent sequels.

I like these demo changes and I like the return of demos. I've recently played a few demos that I ended up liking and buying (or wishlisting for later).
