Car deaths and gun deaths. One of these things is not like the other.

What would be similar is the times someone intentionally used their car as a weapon to kill someone. How often does that happen?

* Googles *

Looks like a couple hundred over the past decade worldwide. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands have been killed by guns worldwide over the same period. Let's say that again:

Hundreds vs. hundreds of thousands.

Vehicles are safer now than ever before.

After total deaths peaked in 72 (~55k) they have trended down to where they are today. Take into account the population increase (+113 million) and increase in highway mileage driven and it's clear that there has been huge strides in automobile safety.
TLDR deaths per million during that time frame dropped from 260 to 110.

Huh, so through decades of continually adding safety regulations to automobiles, deaths declined.
Gee, I wonder what else we could be applying regs to in order to prevent deaths.

I'm thinking it should be life + 25 years. If an artist dies young their family shouldn't be cut off from the rewards of their recent work.

I'm thinking maybe the family SHOULD GET OFF THEIR ASSES AND GET A FUCKING JOB.

Set it at something static like 20 years or so, then no one needs to worry about whether the artist passed away or not. This whole 75 to 150 years shit is bullshit.

When the country was first founded, copyright was for 14 years with a single extension option by the original copyright owner for another 14.

IMO, the founders got it right the first time.

We don't get too many singleplayer games that aren't from small indies these days so I'll take what I can get. I've already preordered this game, which is something I never do. Any port in a storm.

Huh, given that you have 3000+ games or something on Steam, I'm surprised you don't often preorder.

But still...

Did you just compare this console trash to Skyrim??

But we all know it's really because Canada does not have any masculinity, amirite asmodai? Rolleyes

/rubbs belly

People are still murdered in Canada.

Yes... at a stageringly lower rate, per capita, in Canada to be equivalent to 1 year in the US, it would take 5 years of murders.

And for school shootings... You had 4 in the last week, when was the last in Canada? 2 years ago.

You had 16 since the start of 2018 which implicated people dying... Let's see how far back we have to go in Canada to have 16 deadly school shootings...

1884, I'm not kidding... Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_shooting#Canada

In 5 months you've had as many deadly school shootings as Canada since 1884. We've had 19 total since then, but 3 had no casualties.

I rest my case

Somehow I read that as Canada had 16 fatal school shootings in 1884. I thought, Damn things must have been crazy in Canada that year. But no, 16 fatal school shootings occured 1884-2018. Got it.

Canadian 16 school shootings: 134 years
United States 16 school shootings: 6 months

Why is Canada so unproductive compared to the US??

Sounds like Murray might have actually learned something. That, or he is aping the Peter Molyneux cycle of wild promises/apolgies/vows of silence/talk a bunch of nonsense.

The only thing he learned is not to wear plaid for interviews. Plaid is associated with an "awww, shucks" college-bro persona. He replaced it with white. His new "I'm serious" persona. He's a sham in every way. Do not trust a word he says. In his mind everything he says is true, even the lies.

Most gamers have extreme short term memory. People are going to forget what this guy did and praise him for his brilliant game and other such nonsense. I'll have none of it.

Aren't devout Xians supposed to be forgiving?

Have you played it since launch? Just curious. I had a ton of fun.

Also, if you played it, I'd jump back in so we could meet somewhere.

I know people love to hate this game, but I bought it for about $20 or maybe even less in this past Winter, and I thought it was a very fun chill game if you like exploring, crafting, and mining. I understand it was WAAAAY oversold, but if you go into it expecting a $20 game, I thought it was a very nice game to play while watching Netflix or a stream.

Bought it 1.5 years after launch, and put in 140 hours. Tons of fun.

I don't see what's wrong with looking at changing the deal, as long as it's done in a legal manner.

USPS has been running at a loss for more than a decade. Amazon pays no federal income tax due to the same tax benefits that Trump put in place.

I see nothing wrong with him asking for more from Amazon. And this is coming from a lifelong conservative.

The USPS is a government service, all the rest of which "operate at a loss" being funded by taxpayers. Only the USPS is required to pay for itself. That makes no sense, given that it's forced by law to cover rural areas that not even UPS or FedEx will deliver to due to lack of profitability. The USPS should not be held to the same standards as a private business when it's required not to act like one and force to take a loss in many markets.

All that being said, the USPS negotiated Amazon's rate. Ostensibly it's a fair one? Picking on one company over others violates general fairness, even if it involves a market dominator like Amazon. If Amazon needs to be broken up, then let's get the anti-trust regulators involved.

The funny thing is someone actually thinks this is really Valves doings. Somewhere someone has either called them or has warned them about potential liabilities. As the article stated, nudity is tough to manage where each country and state could have different regulations. Most business would love zero regulations, then you'd get it all, but that world has its own set of problems.

Exactly. The games sell and that's all Valve cares about. Companies don't do things that will cost them unless not doing those things would cost them even more. Whether it's due to legal liability or enough complaints from "Mothers Against Cartoon Boobies" or whoever, this is Valve being compelled to conform to the world we live in.

Everyone knows that murder is bad and not to do it for real.

People don't know that about sex.

So Valve wants to teach people that killing people is good (doesn't censor at all), and that reproduction is bad (must be censored.) Interesting that this development coincides with yet another school mass killing.

How about we ban idiots looking for a silver bullet solution to a very complex and layered problem?

Hell, why don't we ban men while we're at it??

You do know that empirically there's an inverse relation to restricting guns and gun violence.
