Seriously though, I wonder when Boston Dynamics gets tasked to build their first combat robot, if they haven't already.

There are a couple of them already.

My card is a few generations old at this point. What's the best way to spend $500? AMD? Current gen Nvidia? Last gen Nvidia?

2070 is around that price I believe, but you could find a used 1080ti for around that price, and I would jump on that before the 2070.

I'm also a couple generations back, still rocking the 980ti, but honestly I dont feel any reason to upgrade yet.

RTX is in it's first iteration, expensive as hell, and AMD is not really competing. Not the best time to buy a GPU, unless youre looking for a good last generation nvidia gpu used, which are in abundance because of the new gen cards coming out. With the new cards, you're paying a premium because of the new rtx technology that is of very limited usefulness to gamers for the foreseeable future, and because of this price positioning, even used cards are going for higher than they should.

Not the best time for an upgrade, and I'd say "wait until we see what AMD comes out with next", but that is a total crapshoot also.

I think the best bet is to wait until the next generation rtx cards or even the gen after that, when the premium (hopefully) will not be as high for this new technology, and perhaps even a bit of competition from AMD will be present.

Maybe not 4K, but something to handle a VR set up with smooth framerates.

I have to say, while have been considering on and off for a while now about going back to ED -- this video did nothing to increase my desire to start playing the game again.

What, mining asteroids not exciting enough for ya?

What this game really needs is an engine that understands speech so I can dock verbally.

There is a software system compatible with ED that does that. You can buy voice packs of different actors - Bill Shatner, Tom Baker, et al. - that act as the ship's AI.

Voice Attack

Thanks Cutter.

I was hoping for something built-in and interactive that would improve immersion:

"Marcellus station, this is Viper 257 requesting permission to dock."

"Permission granted, please proceed to dock 43."

It works on voice triggers so you could set your trigger to

"This is Viper 256 requesting permission to dock"

or

"Requesting permission to dock"

and then it automatically sends the key functions to initiate docking with a station.

Yeah, that's pretty cool. Gets me part way there.

I know how to make sure the kids get immunized, make it so parents have to provide proof before their little diaper dirtiers can be claimed on income tax. That would wake up the morans.

Lots of schools require immunizations before you can attend, although this usually doesn't include flu shots.

"80% of flu deaths occur in unvaccinated children last year"

"Studies show the flu vaccine reduces deaths by 2/3 in healthy children."

LOL @ Beamer.

Cutter, it's Jamaica. The entire country is black, and they have a long history of corruption and organized crime.

And no liberals or BLMers assert that blacks never commit crimes. The issue is that they are targeted at much higher rates proportional to the crimes they do commit, and usually treated much more unfairly when they are suspected. This includes being shot and killed when they are unarmed. Thus "Black Lives Matter."

This carries an NBA license, but is not intended as a realistic simulation, as shown in this wild video featuring huge jumps, huge slamdunks, and huge heads.

Whaddya mean? It's totally realistic: everyone knows that NBA players have huge heads.

I do see articles claiming 2070's at $500, well I'll believe that when I see it for sale somewhere for that. Even at that it is a questionable buy, it performs well in that slot, but $500 to me is about $100 more than I spend of VC's. Fence for sure, probably leaning towards a no, at $600 solid no.

Agree, I'm in the market for a new card, but $500 is the limit.

The 2070 is a joke, right? Right? RIGHT?

Looks like perf is about the same as a Radeon RX Vega 64, with price to match (about $500). A lot of framerates are the same for the 2070 and the 1080TI, but the 1080TI is also faster in a lot of games too, sometimes by a lot. It's usually been the case that the xx70 of the current generation has been equal to or slightly better than the top Nvidia card of the previous gen, but that's not the case this time. Definitely disappointing, and prices for the 1080ti remain high in the $700 range.
