There was a national mission to fix rural broadband, but big telecom screwed the pooch by taking the money and never delivering the build-out the money was for. Fast-forward about a decade and Shit Pai has removed most of the money that would have gone to this, as well as removing (or trying to) most of the subsidies for the poor to get anything even resembling broadband in any form.

The problem isn't the lack of a plan. The problem is, and has been for quite some time, lack of consequences for ISPs not following through after getting the money.

We need a national mission to fix the US infrastructure in general. Bridges, roads, the electric grid, dams, etc. No money has been put into it for decades.

Given that they are only planning on releasing seven games next year, four of them sports titles, I wonder why they're bothering.

Obviously because the world revolves around Merica and that other country.

When I'm coding, I like to listen to white noise like thunderstorms or babbling brooks. I also like to listen to soundtracks:
- Blade Runner
- Inception
- Interstellar
- Oblivion (M83)
- StarCraft

What do you all listen to?
I just randomize my favorite songs from my collection http://zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/songs.html even if I am not working (unemployed for over 1 year, 10 months, 5 days, 11 hours, 50 minutes, and 47 seconds :().

Lots of time to play games!
And no energy due to my old sick body these days. I finally resumed playing Oblivion last week for a quest after not playing since March 2018.
Suck man.

Game energy wanes as I age as well.

The world is beautiful. I mean, it's beyond beautiful. The animals are AMAZING. The first time you get attacked by wolves, you will not BELIEVE how incredible they look. Same for deer, for bears, etc. The sound is insane, the simulation is mindblowing. I'm running out of adjectives to describe what an incredible world they made.

Is it fun? Not really.

This is how Star Citizen will be, only moreso.

Beneficial... riiight. Until the layoffs and store closings start to happen.

Why would store closings happen? Why would layoffs happen?

1) It isn't like you can run a store with fewer people. Every store is already running with the minimum amount it can in order to still be competitive. This is true about every industry. Surely you've noticed you're working more hours and everyone is stretched thinner than 15 years ago. Blue collar and white collar, in the aftermath of the 2008 economic crisis companies cut G&A to the bone and haven't revived it.

1b) The only exception to this is moving jobs to automation, such as replacing the people taking your order at McDonald's with tablets. Which, incidentally, gets blamed on minimum wage hikes, yet was happening prior to these hikes, and is happening faster in areas without the hikes, as it has nothing to do with the hikes and is just "smart business" for these places - it's cheaper, consumers tend to like it more, and it actually leads to higher sales because a shiny image of a side or dessert or new product can upsell better than a cashier ever can.

2) Why would there be closings? Stores raise prices to deal with this. With the minimum wage higher, more people have more money and can afford to spend more. It isn't really that much. Let's say a McDonald's has 6 employees on duty at any time, and is open 18 hours a day. That's 756 hours a week. If they're making $10.50, that's about $8,000 in wages. At $15, that's about $11,000 in wages. A store with 6 concurrent employees is doing 3,000-5,000 orders per day. Worst case, that's about 50 cents you need from each order to cover the increased wages. But since your lowest end is making much more per hour, the economy can afford that.

And, honestly, if you can't afford to pay your employees a living wage, do you deserve to be in business?
Perfect.

You're welcome, altho you haven't used the article's real title:

"What Happens When Telecom Companies Search Your Home for Piracy"

Considering the guy and company did NOTHING wrong ( the users did ) and how the "big three" are using the word of the civil law to go against the spirit of the law and squash competition, the title is pretty accurate.

The ISPs essentially ransacked his home, interrogated him from 8am to midnight and raped his privacy through sheer lawyering will using their vast monetary resources, leaving him with mounting lawyer bills and facing possible bankruptcy.

This isn't even a criminal case, yet they went to extreme extents...

Isn't this a bit like going after gun companies because their guns are occasionally used for crimes, even though the vast majority of the time they are not?

Also, can't someone like the EFF help Lackman out?
The eff will help him about as much as they helped https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Dotcom
Pretty different situation. Kim touted his site a good for illegal file sharing. This guy's main goal was legal streaming.

let's let all the illegals come in to america so we can pay them 15 an hour. because america has an endless supply of jobs for unskilled and blue collared labor.

we should eliminate the minimum wage and let the market decide how much a job is worth. If you don't like it, then don't give your money to companies that pay their employees chump change.

at the end of the day, how you spend your dollar determines which company makes money.

Illegals aren't eligible. THey don't have SS cards.

Your comment seems to echo the general user reviews. 9.7 / 10 from MetaCritic's Critic Reviews, yet only 7.6 from User Reviews (based on at least 2000 reviews). Basically, over hyped and under delivers seems to be the consensus.

Also shows you how much stock you can put in supposedly impartial Critic Reviews these days...

This particular review by the user Jelle nails it as far as my current impression goes (gives it 6/10):

This is exactly the kind of game journalists love - it's pretty, technically flawless and fun to go through effortlessly. Game journalists hate frustration (i.e. challenge) and bugs (i.e. made by non-AAA developers that can't afford 1000 workers in their QA department). But what is it that you actually do in RDR2? Mostly riding from place A to place B and watching cutscenes. It's an AMAZING interactive movie. But actually playing the game is nothing special, unless you are willing and able to fully roleplay a cowboy. The best way to enjoy this game is to save your money and watch someone entertaining playing it on Youtube.

At least in GTA, driving from A to B is fun in itself. Getting somewhere by horse, when you're not being ambushed, really doesn't provide you with much more to do than taking in the scenery (which admittedly looks great here) or listen to the conversation. Then there's the overall clunkyness of the entire looting experience in general, i.e. kill animal, dismount, skin animal, tie animal to horse, remount, ride somewhere, dismount again... Or, as in GiantBomb's Quicklook, they were searching a cottage at some point and every item investigated was picked up and examined. All lovingly animated in excruciating detail. Just watching drove me nuts, and I will never be able to play this game without something like XCOM 2's DontWasteMyTime mod. Maybe once there's a PC version, someone will be able to build something like it.

This has been my central complaint about all of the Star Citizen videos that have been released so far: Don't waste my time with making coffee or walking five minutes to the hangar.

*yawn*

From what I've seen of the game (saw a few streamers play it) the game doesn't hit any of my "must play" buttons.

Admiteddly they weren't very far in, but the writing and dialogue wasn't that awesome and the player's character is far from a cool & mysterious gunslinger type that would draw me into the story.

The gameplay itself looked kind of meh.

Please remain at home. We will be sending two of our "fixers" over in order to "re-educate" you.
