it's the same old thing. awesome RTS dropped like a rock after several months of non-stop play, due to map fatigue.
sure there are plenty of custom maps available, but who has them loaded, and what servers are hosting them? none.
company of heroes, my fave in ages, fell directly into this sad state of disrepair, and i'll probably not go back for any more of their games.
now that WIC is finally putting out some new maps, 6 months or so after i stopped playing due to map fatigue, i might fire it back up again. but these new maps will wear out in a couple weeks.
it's so simple really - just distribute user created maps officially, and the game will always remain fresh, and the community will grow. hell WIC has an auto map download feature built right in. they released a measily couple of maps early on, but then dropped it right on the floor again.
remember the original half life, that used to auto-download new maps direct from the server hosting them? how fucking difficult was that to pull off in the late 90s?
why in the 21st century, after pouring millions of $$ into a game, the developer can't keep one fucking intern on staff for the next year or two, making sure fresh map content is available for said game, and servers are up hosting the maps?
anyway, all that ranting aside, i guess this is two new maps. it'll be good for a few more days of gameplay, before i get bored with these as well.
someday in the glorious future, an RTS developer will actually pry a quarter out of their wallet, and properly support new maps and their distribution to players. that developer will get as much money as they want from me, and i'll always come back for more.
