"video game competitions as a professional sport."

Give me a fuckin break.

How about putting a round ball through a round hoop as a professional sport? Or throwing an oval ball as a professional sport? Or maybe, get this, put some fucking blades on your feet, grab a wooden pole and round around on ice after a small hunk of rubber.

All "professional sports" are a joke, if others can make it why not "esports".

All these big money hats companies can start making RPGs for all I care.

While these jackasses spend untold millions on cutting edge graphics, stupid career/campaign modes, ear numbing soundtracks, and voicer overs that call you either "dude" or "bro" in every sentence, Live For Speed does none of that and gets right the only thing that matters: driving physics.

And they won't be affected by this "genre death".

At first glance I thought this was BS, but after thinking about it for a minute I believe they have a point. If I'm just playing on a pub, unless something stupid happened and I feel I got an unfair deal, dying in fact does calm me down because it puts me on a respawn timer, which is now a standard part of FPS games. Sitting in limbo mode is a lot less exhilarating than being in the thick of the action.

On the other hand going on a killing spree seems to increase adrenaline ever so slightly with every subsequent kill, making for more anxiety. I don't see how it makes for more anger though. Maybe they are talking about "OHH IN YOUR FACE BITCH" type of anger that some people have after fragging.

Thus I see how killing is more stimulating to the brain than dying, but the very reason I play these games is for excitement, so other than their anger/joy assessment(which may have been subjective anyway), I believe their research rightfully proves that killing is more fun than dying in an fps.

During the show PCGA member Intel launched a new gaming platform formerly code-named "Skulltrail." The Intel Dual Socket Extreme Desktop Platform includes two quad-core microprocessors

Yes, this is what will save PC gaming.

The problem with gaming is that all progress so far this decade has been on textures and polygons and not the actual games. I can count the number of innovative games since the turn of the millennium on one hand.

Where did THIS come from? I vividly remember being addicted to Warlords 1 circa '92 =) It was the definitive strategy/rpg game.

I can see how someone could justify pirating EA games purely because they are such a monolithic evil. It's not right, but it's not right to buy them either.

You cannot justify pirating Stardock's games, and if you do, you are a piece of shit, period.

I played moo2 recently too, and found the AI amusingly bad in that game compared to GalCiv2's. And if there is one thing that I absolutely crave in a single player strategy game, it's a competent AI. The scale also feels tiny in moo2 by comparison. What I like more about moo2 is the unique feel of every technology and improvement. Hopefully this new expansion addresses that.

Oh, and I never thought moo2 was better than moo1! Moo1 had a more epic atmosphere and didn't get bogged down by all the planetary improvements and individual ships in combat. It scaled way better.

The original UT had this system and more with something called NGStats some 8 years ago. Now they use gayspy for all things multiplayer while Valve is showing how it should be done.

All FPS games require teamwork unless it's FFA deathmatch. UT3 ctf and warfare require teamwork as well.

And yes m00zilla, the game is a ton of fun, but I can only speak for myself obviously.

This game absolutely feels like an updated UT2004, but only if you play Warfare.

Come play regular CTF, if you can find a populated server, it's a throwback to UT99 but better. After some crazy intense fun on Reflection you won't be able to go back to Warfare.

It's too bad Epic made Warfare the "main" attraction, it's slower, more frustration, and much more shallow than your stock translocator CTF.

Deathmatch? Deathmatch is so 1990's. I can play deathmatch for 20 minutes at a time at a maximum. After that I am tired of it.

If deathmatch is 1990's, then 2000's is all about team deathmatch. Unless in an organized match, everyone plays these so-called tactical games that try to push teamwork down your throat like they're team deathmatch regardless.

I've been playing TF2 lately and even there, where you're restricted to a very specific role based on the class you choose, it's near impossible to find people trying to do anything other than mindlessly killing. The extent of teamwork does not go beyond "I'm a medic, I see a heavy or a soldier, and I'll heal them". That's it. Engineers camp their bases with sentries instead of trying for a risky forward base with a teleporter. When I play as engie, it's hard to get people to use my forward TPs because it seems people hardly understand what they even do.

Meh, I've experienced more teamwork in UT CTF than any of these post-CS boredom inducers.

Quake > UT at dm
UT > Quake at ctf

Since the quake series has taken a nose dive though, Quakers may have to rely on UT for their dm as well.

After seeing UT3's "beta" debacle though, I won't be surprised if UT joins Quake in the arcade fps graveyard.

Anyone who buys this game is a frothing moronic tool.

Exactly, wtf are they thinking releasing the game after their browser turned out to be useless as an online service? Those boys need to go back to the basics in working with their player base on making playable games.

Gone gold less than three weeks after a rough beta release? I don't think so.
