RTR (Rome Total Realism) mod has done, and is about to do again with 6.0 release, more than any expansion could ever hope to do. I can't even imagine going back to vanilla, not even for new content.

From what I played in the beta, you can meet up with hundreds of people in town to trade, craft, get quests and assemble parties. You can choose to participate in PvP with any other party on the server. From what I've seen you can have up to 64 players at the same time in a single PvP arena. You can also travel to a particular town at any time to meet up with any player on the entire server (not just your "shard").

How does this not fit the word "massively"? Where in the word "massively" does it specify that all people have to be in the same instance (with the exception of "shards" huh) at the same time at all times? Just because past mmorpgs worked like that, doesn't mean every future mmorpg has to work like that.

With the greatest sadness I agree. This is a game I was going to run out and buy tomorrow. Not with starforce attached.

I just hope BF2 engine *runs* a little better... God, BF engine was so fucking horrible.

Graphics or netcode? I remember playing on a lowly axp1900+ w/ ti4400 and getting 60+ fps most of the time. I think the trick was to set the sound quality to low.

Netcode was definitely crap though, and I doubt it'll improve. Actually, any game that's not quake or based on quake engine pretty much has bad netcode.

I believe it's BF:V that had the five minute load times. I didn't have a state of the art system, but bf42 load times were perfectly bearable.

Clunky infantry combat was offset by great vehicle action.

Hopefully bf2 is good on both fronts.

DE also made Unreal Championship, which along its development branched out into the turd that was ut2k3. The original Unreal/UT were awesome, but if you sum up all the crap that Epic and DE have delivered, their batting percentage is quite low. As the general consensus of the competitive unreal community suggests, UT99 was a lucky fluke. Epic/DE sucks.

I love the game, but I have to agree that it is laggy - for me anyway. And by laggy I mean unplayable. During the WPE a half a year ago it was butter smooth, but roughly 75% of the time during all the BWEs, it was so jerky I could barely make out what was happening on screen.

I'd pay for my and my friends' copies of this game in a heartbeat, but unless the lag situation improves in the last event, I'll have to pass.

I'm a diehard TW fan (having owned and played every game and expansion to death), and I must admit that RTW is not as good as its predecessors. It has too much content for its own good - the AI simply can't keep up. A simple, clever game with good challenge can provide hours of entertainment. RTW is a huge, complex with zero challenge, and in retrospect I can't call 90% of the hours I've spent with it entertaining.

What about ArenaNet? http://www.arena.net/about/index.html Then there was Click Entertainment...

Can't deny that the brain drain has been significant.

They are making significant improvements with each preview. At this pace they will have a super game by the time it comes out in april or whenever. Many of folks will be weary of EQ2/WoW by that time as well.

I got UT2004 for $40 from EB the day it came out with a $20 coupon. I'm still waiting to get my $20's worth out of this 'great value' game. IMO one great mode has far more value than five hundred shitty ones. Barely anyone plays dm/tdm, UT's most popular mode, ctf, is almost as dead. DOM, assault, BR... none ever took off (in this one OR previous UT's). What's left? Onslaught, and that's the only thing anyone plays it seems. An arcadey bf42 knockoff that has no depth at all.

I just cannot believe how fast this game came and went. It didn't deserve to, it's the best multiplayer FPS in years; and I'm not even a tribes fan. At the same time people are gobbling up ut2k*shit and CS:S.

I played morrowind for about 60 hours. I want 58 of them back. The game sucked. Gothic easily owns it.
