Great article about potentially saving the Columbia. Very much worth a read.

Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I swear, I think NASA are rockstars these days. They do all kinds of amazing shit, even with a strangled budget.

Yeah, I read that whole four page article last night. Awesome stuff. There were some great comments too, esp the ones from a guy that helped design the post-Columbia rescue plans.

NASA's still got some of the best engineers in the world. They also have a bit too much bureaucracy, but definitely hurt b/c of the budget cuts. If it were up to me, I'd take half the defense spending and give it to NASA. There should be Curiosity-style rovers on Titan, Europa, and Ceres. Jupiter and Saturn should be orbited by a Hubble sized telescopes. Cassini sized probes should be orbiting Neptune, Uranus, and Venus. There should be a permenant base on the moon already. And on and on.

There's no reason what so ever to have telescopes orbiting Jupiter and Saturn. There's the James Webb telescope which is an upgrade to Hubble and there's already an active ESA probe orbiting Venus. Plus there's also New Horizons next year and Juno in 2016 to look forward to. I do agree that money would be much better spent on NASA then the military, but I think their main priority should be to find a better way into orbit... IMO a moon base at this point is, ahhh, pointless

Fox is basically doing the same thing with the 24 mini-series coming this summer. (Which has me excited to NO END, because I absolutely fucking LOVE 24.)

That show was soooo stupid a child could point out the idiocy of the plot lines... and yet I had to absolutely watch the next episode. Self induced torture or a good laugh?

All Gran Turismo 5 DLC will be removed from sale.

Bit of a shitty move. And if you own the DLC, you need to make sure and download it and then go to the store and flag it as family upgrade...

Ya I really don't know WTF Sony's thinking is on this. Game hasn't even been out 4 years yet and their shutting it down? Seems to me the better thing to do would be to make it one of the freebies for PS+ to hook in people who have been on the fence... unless they plan to drop 6 on us for free... still screws over people who are not PS+ users.

Well you're all ready to dump on Gearbox but I'm on my first run on Borderlands 2 and am having a blast, great game. Sure they shit the bed with A:CM and DNF but those were not their games, so I'm still willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I think the Borderlands art style and humor would make a really good fit for another Duke game.

Yeah. I doubt anyone thinks Respawn is doing it, but it's hard to believe that EA isn't. His response is like being pissed that people associate you with mobsters while you're eating pastrami with the Gambini family.

With MS pegging this as one of their flagship exclusives to get people to buy an XBOX ONE I seriously doubt Respawn or EA have had to do anything to pump it up. I'm sure MS has all those bases covered.

Height of insulting is that pure line of BS I just read. Ya I'm sure you've had to fight tooth and nail to get your XBOX ONE exclusive game noticed. Though I'm sure they are not paying anyone off, they are the ones who were "paid off" to make it exclusive, and their benefactors are the ones paying people off.

Levine always seemed a bit coy about what he was doing after BI. I mean, it's not like he was going to announce his next game or anything, but he seemed a bit non-committal or even apathetic.

At the end of the day, Levine has no ownership of Irrational Games so I doubt he chose to shut down the studio. Obviously, he's been a polarizing figure over the years and BI may not have been the biggest seller, but he's being fairly open about what's going on and taking some steps to help the laid off staff.

I'd love to know the full background of things, but it's almost like he's trying to deal with some stuff and, because of his past records, Take-Two is willing to wage a small bet on his behalf.

As for Bioshock Infinite, I enjoyed the game, but it felt a bit lifeless. I was expecting a significantly more unique experience and the combat felt a bit flat. The ending really helped push up my internal favorability numbers of the game, thought I did find it striking how much more exciting of a world I created in my head, based upon the promotional materials, than what I eventually experienced.
What are "...narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly replayable...?"
Noting that he is working on the Logan's Run screenplay,
Ray

Never really thought about a Logans Run game, but now that you mentioned it... Playing a futuristic game where your job is to, ahhh, retire people. Then have you turn on the system and try to find your way to the surface while other people are now trying to retire you... sounds pretty damn sweet.

Well, he explicitly says this: "I am winding down Irrational Games as you know it. "

That does seem to imply that, you know, he is the one doing it...

Well he is still the head of the company so even if it wasn't his decision to close the studio it's still his job to close the studio.

Woo hoo! RAID 1! We are now in the 20th Century! Wait...

Ya on a business related site where downtime is not wanted at all, I'd be going with Raid 6. My first thought when I heard the problems Blue was experiencing, why isn't the site using a fault protection Raid array. Ah well nice to have everything back.

PS Don't forget to log into GTA Online to grab the limited time goodies. Gotta get the Gusenberg Sweeper and Albany Roosevelt before they are gone. I'll be on to pick those up so I can go old school when the bank heists finally hit.

Wow, that seems kinda... harsh? Guys make a very succesful game, and then because Ken Levine wants to make a smaller studio, everyone else gets sacked?

Thanks, Ken Levine?

? He doesn't own Irrational games, Take-Two does. I fail to see how TT dissolving Irrational because of Kens departure is Kens fault. Besides it's obvious TT is going to continue with the Bioshock brand so all those people will just end up in whatever studio TT gives the IP to.

EDIT Just finished Infinite last night. Was an OK shooter and the level designs were pretty good and varied with lots of places to explore. The story is really what made it shine though, one of the most memorable endings ever.

What a bunch of gibberish, PC doesn't lead shit. All this survey amounts to is that people plan to ALSO port whatever they make to PC, their lead targets are still consoles and phones\tablets.

oooh, future Doom beta access. Because id is going to absolutely rock the house now that their one remaining asset, Carmack, is also gone. Keep your eyes open for Doom, fellas![...]
Tim Willits is still there. He's the lead designer/creative director, Carmack just coded the engines. If you would like to complain about recent (and upcoming) id Software's games, he's the guy to send emails to.

I see I need to explain things to you: The only good thing about id's game has been their technical prowess. The game design has sucked since the days of Doom 2, or Quake for some.

Now that the technical guy is gone, all they have left is their design guys, who have already proven themselves to be terrible.

So what's left to cheer for? Oh, right.
I loved Doom 2, all the Quake games (even Raven's Quake 4), I liked Doom 3 a lot (especially the BFG edition, which seems to be how Doom 3 should have been from the start) and I loved Rage.

So, for me, id games are very good. They're fun and the "gunplay" of Rage was brilliant. I do not think it impossible for other programmer geniuses to take over Carmack's work properly.

Yup... well except for Q4. Hope it's not on rails, hard to tell from whats been shown, but we know it's gonna be a corridor shooter.

That Yamato trailer is like... 3 years old ~.~ but what's even more hilarious, is that you can watch the entire movie in the related video links on the side... yay? ;p

Ya ya, I know it's old, but seeing as I only found out about it the other day it's new to me ... and it's never been posted here so it's new to Blues.
Figured there might be some old farts like me around here who grew up with Star Blazers and might appreciate it... and the fact you can watch the whole thing on the tube is just a bonus, which I did last night. They did a pretty good job, kinda falls apart towards the end though.
Also it seems the franchise has been picked up by an american company who's looking to make another movie based on the IP.

You gotta admit though, for a 50 billion + investment that's pretty friken sad. At that kind of money spent the bathrooms should be gold plated.

Every single Olympics you always get the it isn't finished yet, will it be finished on time stories... but I don't think I've ever seem them two days before opening ceremonies, could be a very interesting event this year.
