I'm not going running carrying an amp with me.

This is probably a good idea. Seriously, you should be careful when running, you won't be able to hear ambient noises.

I have both the ER-6 and the ER-4S. I started with the ER-6 and then recently moved to the ER-4S. They are great headphones. I also have Sennheiser HD600s and the ER4S's rival them. I use the etymotics when traveling and they provide a significant amount of noise reduction. I've tried some of these "canceling" headphones and they just don't offer near the amount of noise reduction you get from the etymotics. The only negative comments are that with a sealed design, vibrations from the cord can be transmitted to your ear. So if you wear these while walking, and the cord brushes against your shirt as you walk, you may hear noise. Also, I have found that the cheaper ER-6's fit in my ear better than the ER-4s, which have a different design.

Also, do yourself a favor and consider buying an inexpensive headphone amplifier. You can buy a portable one for $150. This will make a much more significant difference in sound than the headphones. Also, if you are going to spend the money for ER-4's, don't buy the low impendance version. Instead buy the 4S and a portable amp. You won't be sorry.

Here's a site that has info and some good prices (no relationship).

What am I missing? Guy with shotgun shoots monsters and opens doors with keycards. That's not much of a story (although the keycard bit is a f'n brilliant twist!).

Actually surprisingly good advice in that article (for a bunch of ht guys ;-)). I love all the "bose" references. Hilarious. The best comment, "You bought good speakers with excellent reputations and let your spousal unit or companion persuade you to put them out of sight inside an antique armoire or entertainment unit." Speakers inside furniture....wow. The sad thing about the article is that it missed the most basic advice on speakers - how you position your speakers is critical. He did discuss boundary effects with subwoofers, but people need to understand that you have to properly position your speakers in order to have any chance of good imaging. But a good article, nonetheless.

Agreed. The best game I've ever played. The dynamics of combat are so well done. Weapons are so satisfying. Still early in the game and I have just the 9mm handgun and just got an SMG. Usually, (even in HL) the basic pistol is so lame, but this thing is a real weapon. And explosions are so f'n kick ass. The way stuff actually explodes with just an amazing velocity. Wow. Like real life. Two things to keep gamers happy. Guns. Explosions. The other thing I really like is how you are outdoors....running for your f'n life. Again, I'm not that far into the game, but there is a feeling of being chased and a certain tension that comes with it. Usually in FPSs, you get that "open door" - "clear room" - "move to next area" sort of action (maybe I've been playing too much Doom3). Usually, I will clear an entire area, gather up all the guns and ammo, and then methodically move along. With this game (so far), I'm just running, trying to stay ahead of the wolves. And there are so many dudes after you, that I don't have time to always pick up everything or go look in every corner. There seems to always be another cop about to cap your ass. Brilliant.

The only steam problems I had (pre-loaded ages ago) was last night when I couldn't seem to play in offline mode. So I just fired up dsl and things connected (although it couldn't seem to remember my pw). I'm sorry so many people have been having problems.

Edit: saw msgs on offline mode. That didn't work for me (i.e., dialogue box for offline mode). Definitely something up because I've been using steam offline playing OpFor. When I try and use offline, it tells me that it is not available (for anything) and just won't start.

So is this the first big game (of recent release) that wasn't cracked before it was released? If so, that would be quite an accomplishment for Valve.

Have to say. The online authentication was truly a brilliant move. Addresses the lawsuit issues. Addresses the traditional embargo/early sales problems. May address piracy issues (we'll see).

But certainly when Doom3 was "accidentally" sold early, and the warez versions appeared, a lot of people downloaded it under the proviso that they would "buy it later when it was released." Right. But with no unlocked retail copies, that seems to be less likely to occur (warez before release date).

Also, worldwide simultaneous release was the right thing to do. Pre-loading was smart as well.

If the servers don't crash, this will be the shape of things to come.

I was sitting in the dark last night, wearing my headphone, shrieking like a girl. It got so bad I had to turn it off to decompress. Runs really well, too. Brings back memories of the first time I saw DOOM...."no, like you're actually IN the game." Wasn't that long ago. Great stuff.

>>G = Saleen. Took me awhile too.

Thanks! They've sold like what....10 production cars (other than mods)? Wow, that was hard. I actually tried Panoz and Shelby and other small manufacturers, but didn't get Saleen.

Cannot figure out G. Driving me crazy. I've tried every car manufacturer I can think of. Must be some kind of scam to get you to buy the answer.
